I actually studied this in an ethnomusicology class in college. I thought those non-major related classes were a waste of time, but now I can appreciate the broad insights I've gained through them.
This dance is called "Kecak", it's a ritual dance from Bali, indonesia, to repents evil. I'm indonesian, although i've seen this dance before, still, everytime i see this mystical ritual, it always gives me chills. It's just so transcendental, something that we can't easily understand.
It's only a matter of time before people realize that Baraka was a HUGE influence on James Cameron's Avatar. Keep in mind Baraka was released just a couple of years before Cameron first proposed his idea for Avatar to producers.
monkey dance? cool. thought it was a symbolistic picture of the action of the two brain parts, but monkey dance even made my day. i love the sequence, anyway.
"un soir j'ai vue un esprie . il ma dit " tu vas mourir " est il a disparue . maintenant que vous avez lu sa vous aller mourir dans 3 jours exactement sauf si vous mettez sa sur 50 video, c'est pas de moi"
@pranashanti From Indonesia, it's quite a recent dance brought by an occidental, it tells an ancient story but i don't know exactly the kind of story...
@pranashanti indonesia. it's a ritual to worship the monkey god. the main guy becomes possessed by the god's spirit and leads the chant in a polyrhythmic style
So this is where the idea if Avatar came from...people getting high off a ritual dance. Nice?
