Ok, there's a one or two frame moment at about the 2:08.5 mark where something appears over the male leads face. I've spent the past ten minutes trying to pause it at that moment to see what the hell it is, but have been unsuccessful. Jon (or anyone), can you tell me what that was?

it is the "old movie" or "reel" effect that he used... it is basically a fake "spot" or "imperfection" on the "film strip" that comes from weather getting to it or from it being played a lot... it is just an effect nothing major... but it does look COOL and the effect he used goes really well with that CLASSIC he picked for the background track

I genuinely liked it. I think it was very realistic that you didn't tie every little thing together, like the beginning when she was sayin Ï'll never leave you" then switched to "We should see other people". That's how it happens in real life!

Also, I LOVE the title and the song choice. The lack of dialogue was interesting, but I think it was a great choice.

Once again, I loved it. Thanks for putting it up.

Sorry to have to criticize, but I've broken up a coupla times before, and my reactions and poses while arguing were rather different. The guy needs to point to the other guy while they're yelling when the camera dollies around, and he needs a more macho/sexy stance in the last scene, kind of like what Clint Eastwood would dokinda like, "look what you're missing , you slut". But overall, I have rated this 5 stars. Even as i criticize, I realize I couldn't do a better job myself. Cheers.

I've watched this a lot now. Love it, but it's not believable in that 1) the girl dumped the guy . What was the problem? All of a sudden, the voice over narrator switches her attitude, no motivation given, except " this is college, now, Joe" Also, he was too good looking for her. If she was not pretty, should have made her dress sharp at least.Also a result : the 2d guy didn't seem beleivable as a replacement. In a silent movie, visual cues are everything, and those cues are definitely wrong.

As an actor myself, I think your male lead did a pretty good job would've loved to have heard more of the dialogue for more connection but I guess the song and the symbolizm sorta makes up for the lack of dialogue. The film itself almost steers into music video but misses it. Sorry about your pain. I hope you're doing good again Jon.

I got from the glass of water that "the glass is half empty or half full" sorta thing then he drinks it and so it becomes more empty. It could also be taken as a sense of balance I guess. It sucks about your girlfriend, must've been a deep pain. There is a sense of sinister or dark pain with the happy love song, the old quality and the stages of the break up.

Fantastic! I'm sure we're gonna see more of Jon Chu. I got here from the NY times article. I'm sure you purposely violated the 180 degree rule ( see @ 4:26-8)..was it to generate tension?As a result, it was evocative of the old silent movies,by DW Griffith,and Korda, The grainy film also added to that sensation. Great stuff, man. Can't wait for more! A 21st century silent movie, wow!
