  • Loved your shiz, Mark. Still do. I was a huge Lakim Shabazz fan back in the day ... Black is Back AND The Red, The Black, The Green have not dated whatsoever (like much of your music). Your stuff for Chill Rob G was monumental too. Was amazed to learn you were behind Hard Knock Life and Stan. Waiting for that next classic!!!!

  • I wonder how stan happend..

  • Is it just me or at 3:40 it's a complete emulation of kanye doing one of his corny ass interviews? LISTEN..... THEY SOUND JUST ALIKE!!!!

  • Is this video in English too?

  • 45 King looks like Jay-Z's Dad

  • Is this narrator speaking english? She has no business narrating in the english language... sooooooooooo hard to understand.

  • what language is this???

  • You can tell he knows his stuff and he knows how to record also. I like when he said He kept his drums on one track ,,So the engineer won't mess them up. I think that's a good ideal if you can get the mix perfect the first time.

Damn. I knew you musta spent some serious time up in the Bronx with all those breaks you have! Saw you perform in L.A. Summer of '03 at Temple Bar (I think PBWolf set it up) Man! What a show! I gave up on hip hop in '04 but I'm slowly getting back into it lately. It needs a Revival man, in a major way!

  • @ThEstanBy

The funny thing is a lot of RL gangsters aren't' the way people would think they are. Some are just business men and some are tuff guys.

  • Jay Z rapped, " I'm not a business man, I'm a "business" man.

  • Five minutes for this amazing track, and one take? Wow.. That's talent.

  • what documentary is this is from...props for loading this clip!

  • ain't that queen latifah's DJ?

  • Yeah, Mark produced Latifah's first record "All Hail the Queen."

  • Yeah he got that flavor unit rockin, I mean right now though. I heard he and the Queen are back together, not sure if that's a rumor or for real. The King and Queen!

  • @BigDainjerus Yeah, he did dj for Latifah, but his history goes deeeeeep! He used to hang out with all the original block party dj's in the Bronx back in the day and carry their records!

  • does anyone know the track around 0:42- 0:52?!?!

  • "Poor Georgie" By MC LYTE

  • The song around 0'42-52 is TOTO, from the "IV" album I think.

  • 45 King looks like Denzel mixed with "Dr J"Julius Erving.

a living legend damnn his beats are dope.

  • @ORDERnPROGRESS a legend is someone who has passed away sooooo no theres no way anyone can be a living legend unlesstheyre a fuckin zombie, are you mental retarded?

  • @iPhuckSlow Because if he dies, he will be a legend. Therefore he is a legend in the making. You fuck. I hate youtube thugs like you who try to offend people for no reason. Get a life. Faggot.

  • @ORDERnPROGRESS ahahaha so truee

  • 45 King kinda looks like Denzel Washington haha

  • one take? fuckkkkk

  • Lol... "Don't mess up my drums"

  • many people might not now this dude but he's an OG in the game

  • 45 KING A LIVING LEGEND. LOVE THIS ISH!

  • Great back story on that classic.

45 King is very passionate about his music from what I see.

  • when he's juggling ... look at the mans face ... he is inside the music. that is real!!! and i know all my producers know about making a joint and going into another room to hear how that shit sounds thru the walls and floors!!!!!!!!!! SO DOPE!!!!!!! really dope video

  • @egnahc LOL i thought i was the only one!!

  • Dopeness!

  • Great story and vid, props!!!

  • classic interview long over do!!!

  • Just posted to my Facebook -This is Classic!

  • thats sick

  • that was on time,i heard kid kapri talk about how it all went down back then,45 king knows how to do it:HUMBLY

  • Wow how Mark the 45 King could produce a classic "Hard Knock Life" for $.25 is amazing. He's a genius, to take the sample for Stan w/ Dido from "Thank You" and make it a sad song is amazing. And then to put DC on the map w/ the classic party record "Let Me Clear My Throat." He should be up there w/ Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Scott Storch.

  • He is in his own right, he actually has better consistentcy then these those other guys. I mean everybody has bangers but out of all the stuff they put out how many are bangers. now 45 king comes every couple of years with a banger then fades back in to the underground thats cosistent to me when your not flooding the market with your beats.

  • It's better to not oversaturate the market and to make the best with a few shots. It's better to measure a thousand times and cut ones versus measure once and cut a thousand times.

  • @journalism101 Exactly.

  • I would love to hear new material from DJ Mark the 45 King.

  • What is the beat they talk about at the beginning?

    The one that jay hums.

  • It's called The 900 Number by DJ Mark the 45 King.

There's also a version with Lakim Shabazz rhyming on.

  • @floede Nice. Thanks man.

  • This is So Cool!!! I wish they do the same interview for "STAN"

  • You're right I would love to see that because Stan was way better than that song!

  • One word (INCREDIBLE)

  • i didn't know 45 king produced stan

  • RESPECT THE OLD SCHOOL GREAT DJs!!!!

  • Good info on this...45 King rocks it everytime!!

  • This is dope and I enjoyed viewing it. When I 1st heard Hard-Knock-Life, I thought it like nothing I'd heard before.

  • MONSTA NOTHING ELSE NEEDED

  • Dope, cool that Jay Z picked up on the beat.

Smooth on the cut as always Mark.

  • Great to get the background info on how the track came to Jay's attention. Is this from a longer documentary? It'd be cool to hear about the story behind The 900 Number as well.

  • awesome bro .....
