This was the first ever video game i played using that exact same cabinet.i was only like 4 or 5 at the time and the experience with the moving cockpit was immense. One day i will own this machine as it was the moment i was introduced to gaming.
I went to Funspot over the summer with some friends. I have to say that Space Harrier is my favorite arcade shooter of all time and playing on that machine was a dream. I practically disregarded the rest of Funspot because of this one cabinet. Easily one of SEGA's best!
I've just watched the video again and am a little worried it might have a bad pot in the controller. When start is pressed it moves forward and the person playing hasn't touched the controller, it should have stayed level. It looks like he could of been stuck running on the ground. Hopefully it just needs the pots centred in the controller it's an easy fix either way.
Freezing problem should be cured with a socketed chip clean and reseat on the boardset I had the same problem with my machine.
Great to see it's running ok, hopefully it will be in tip top condition for me during the Funspot Tournament this year. We will make this machine famous as I'm going to attempt to break my own world record on it.
BTW What's up with the sides of the machine, looks like it's been modified to make you keep you legs in the machine, I hate seeing classics modified like this.
Regards

If you look at the picture of the cab on KLOV, as well as our site, they have it that you put your feet into the machine. You can't really hang your feet outside of the machine.
As far as the world record goes, I wish you the best of luck and I will see you there at the Spring Tournament. Hopefully the machine will be in good order. It froze a couple of times and we had to hit the kill switch to get it to go on again, so hopefully it won't happen to you.

Wow, I never knew Space Harrier also had a moving cabinet and seat. I thought it was just a stand-up one. Great game!

Yup, after playing it like that, it's hard to play it any other way. I'm looking forward to playing it again at the next Funspot tournament this May.

do you know if they still have it now?
nwacompton181 2 years ago
Yup, they still have it. Joystiq recently went to FunSpot and it's at the end of the video they have on their site.

do they still have this cockpit version?
nwacompton181 2 years ago
No, this is their only version of Space Harrier. They do have the Cockpit and Stand Up version of After Burner, though.

The arcade is called FunSpot and it's in Weirs Beach New Hampshire. The top floor is all classic games from the 80's.
