The most noticeable differences to me is the smoother frame rate and dynamic lights from the gunshots. The explosions and gore also look much better than before.

Well...

You can search for GZDoom, which has some awesome Dynamic Lights and a smooth Mouse look.

You can search for Skulltag, that has all that GZDoom has, but it comes with a kickass online capability. (Free To play and all...)

Both are Free.

You need the "Doom2.wad" to play though...

Or you can just download them on the Skulltag Online server.

You just buy the collecters edition or get ZDaemon and download the wads and you can use ZDeamon to launch the game from there basically all you need to play are the wads doom.wad not doom1.wad cus that the demo and you also want DOOM2.wad and plutonia.wad and tnt.wad and thats all the doom original stuff :D
