An Olympic athlete trains for 4 years in advance, 8 hours a day, 6 days a week at the VERY LEAST. I can't compare that to someone who sits in front of a computer screen for a living. You can take a sport seriously, not a hobby.

I always laugh when someone uses the term 'in real life'. Your IN real life, playing a game. What you are, is 'Offline',and 'Online'. You are always in real life. But okay, let me retract my statement and say this. GAMING can be played professionally. My ex's boyfriend does it. Its silly to debate the process. He has a solid income doing it. Its like saying an office worker isnt a job, because their infront of a computer all day, and thus arent "in real life", lol. xD Phelps is good physically.

he's playing a game and communicating for a better chance at winning said game. When you snowboard you ask for guidance by those who know more... I don't see the difference.
I play games and im good at them. Im anti social though, I would think that would be more "nerdy" than getting on vent and communicating with others who have fun with the same things you do.

I agree to some point that taking gaming in a serious stance is some form of nerdishness, if not simply taking something serious for the sake of taking something serious. Some people just take everything they do more to heart than others.
I'd like to know what you mean by snowboarding being worth more than gaming in the future though. Professionals both get paid in tournaments... so...
But yeah, screaming orders at other people, I'd be uncomfortable with. I'd prefer to just play.

Your making a sheer judgement between a hobby/pastime and a hobby/pastime, considering one worthless and the other warrants worth simply by the fact that one occurs "in real life", and the other online.
Both can take on professional roles. Taking something seriously doesnt necessarily mean a bad thing. I dont have to take snowboarding seriously. People that take snowboarding seriously are fucking assholes, btw. Have you ever boarded? Their assholes. I guarantee you that fact.

Wrong, MMOs cannot be played professionally.
As someone who's competed in MLG tournaments, I can tell you it's not comparable to REAL FUCKING LIFE. Gaming isn't a lifestyle or a sport, it's a hobby at most. An Olympic athlete trains for 4 years in advance, 8 hours a day, 6 days a week at the VERY LEAST. I can't compare that to someone who sits in front of a computer screen for a living. You can take a sport seriously, not a hobby.
Don't compare a MLG gamer to someone like MICHAEL PHELPS.

I always laugh when someone uses the term 'in real life'. Your IN real life, playing a game. What you are, is 'Offline',and 'Online'. You are always in real life. But okay, let me retract my statement and say this. GAMING can be played professionally. My ex's boyfriend does it. Its silly to debate the process. He has a solid income doing it. Its like saying an office worker isnt a job, because their infront of a computer all day, and thus arent "in real life", lol. xD Phelps is good physically.

Actually I don't see that as a "real job" either, and I don't think that would be something to be proud of either. I could have programmed something cool this morning, instead I read a novel and worked out. The benefits of doing that instead are tangible, whereas sitting in front of a computer will deteriorate and harm my health if I do it professionally, even if I get paid.
Gaming is not a respectable "lifestyle", nor is sitting in front of a computer unless you're programming.

Bodily damage isnt an issue, and tangibility, as you call it, is relative to the person. Theres people out there right now on crabbing ships who might be getting tossed off the ship by the waves. Theres ice truckers who may very well flip their truck and explode one night. That doesnt make it any less of a job, and I hold no pride in a job I would have. At all.
Being paid, is a job, to me.

I don't know why you are so stingy about accepting gaming as a lifestyle. Being a professional gamer is not surprising in lets say Korea. StarCraft has been one of the biggest games in there and people make a living out of it. If you still deny the fact that it isn't a "real job" I don't know what will make you see. Professional sports player may cause more harm than the gamers themselves. Boxers for example ruin their body to earn a living. How is gaming not a lifestyle?
