  • Heard this shit at the Mud Club. Still got the vinyl. Yo, this was before rap fell off the rails.

  • I remember song back in the day in the 1980 in delaware and philly plus DC area. I was a total party when this song came on. I wish all the hip/rap kids today to hear this music so they know the foundation of rap/hiphop. People play this music to your kids.

  • HAHAH! This is the heavy percussion break on Pump Up The Volume :)

  • si,può andare

  • there should be a separate youtube website for godly hip hop like this!

  • DC Go-Go! Percussion for your ass! Southeast DC and Duff -A- Go Go....Damn...we came to party.

  • The "Pump, Pump, Pump, Pump Me Up" is one of the best hardcore techno-samples ever used in the track "The Masochist - Pump Me What?". All time classic!

  • shake that thang shake that thang you gotta shake that thang!!!!!!!

  • awww, we used to dance to this in the clubs :)

  • GTA Vice City brought me here

  • True Wash, D.C. Go-Go music!!

  • I have this promo from 1981! Love this tune!

  • Hah does anyone hear the Bar-Kays Holy Ghost break being sampled?

  • @unclegusyo no i dont hear that.....

  • @MrParjon might just be a really similar break but you can hear the sort of descending tom fills. very reminiscent of the bar-kays tune in any case. both monster grooves.

  • Malaga Vice brought me here!

  • That's neva forgive action

  • LOL...JUICE

  • @Blackulia Good Call ....when the movie came out I tried for years to find the record...now I just go to youtube and the stuff just appears..

  • @themanfromdc Actually, it's BOTH... The moment the first cat opened his mouth to rap, it became Hip-Hop.

  • @ 0:38 the bass steps in, gòtta love it! Funkie song,

impossible upgrading it with a remix, look no further, this song has it all.

Remeber Biz Markie playin' it in Amsterdam, Paradiso, putting his belly on the crossfader, and playin' 'but all we want to see is your body work' on bothe tables.

  • This is pure hip hop! Real hip hop is all about having fun and making people get up and dance. IT'S about showing love through the art! EXPRESSION! Now,it's more about AGGRESSION! Violence, murder, sex, and death was never apart of the game in the beginning. Real hip hop music like this song,is all fun and energy. And energy can never be destroyed. It will never die. EVEN today,it rocks when played at a party!

  • This is some real Go-Go shit.

  • OMG, I remember this off of JUICE MOVIE, G-Q played this during his DJ Contest.

  • JOE BUDDEN move the FUCK OVER !!!

  • AND when you go to think, they used to knock this music like it was so bad back then. This shit actually put fear into the powers that be and they didn't want to give it a chance. This is true hip hop! TODAY'S music is whats really wrong! Not everything, but most of it is plain garbage today. Rappers of now owe these old schools big time. Sad that they don't know, show,or even care to respect the pioneers.

  • @2slick35 So true to the maximum.

  • Someone please send this to me as an mp3?

  • This song is stupid crazy...the 1's and 2's are fresh. Go Go help influence hip hop, no doubt!

  • Dr. Foreman on the 1's and 2's. And the winner is...GQ!!

  • When I 1st heard this, I was like "what da? "I got to get this. I remember I went he Record Bar and asked my cousin about this song and he had never heard it. "I don't know that song" he said. No other band can compare to trouble funk except maybe Chuck Brown.

    Portsmouth, VA

  • "TROUBLE FUNK IS THE SHIT."

  • i remeber hearing this on style wars and oh my god..........fr..fr..fr...FRESH!!!!!!!

  • this was one of the first hip hop i lisen back in the day'z;)

  • can anyone recommend me some good go-go bands ? thanks

  • I bet you these youngsters today don't know nothing about gogo. Bands like this didn't need to curse or degrade.

  • Trouble Funk was the shit.

  • this shit reminds me of my freshman year at A&T. they came there then in 1980 and turned the mother out. AGGIE PRIDE

  • and 25 yrs. ago. i used to throw down with the best of them to the go go noise of D.C. trouble...hahaha.

  • there is a video of the chili peppers playing yertle the turtle where they improvise towards the end and end up playing a part from 'Drop The Bomb' so i suppose they had influences from them to

  • g -go still dosent get the respect it deserves...

  • Old school rap !!

    Sweet track

  • Funky Track!

  • Is that first drum loop from Bar-Kays - Holy Ghost

  • The part that starts in 1:14 sounds quite similar to Red Hot Chili Peppers's Good Time Boys. I wonder if they have got influences to the song of that.

  • This is way before RHCP and even then they never knew anything about go go.

  • I meant if RHCP got influences of Trouble Funk. But you may be right, it just came to my mind.

  • Sorry That is Kurtis Blow Guys if I Ruled Also

  • GO-GO! dc's own music!

  • The Grandmaster Melle Mel rapped over this song. Oh Yea!

  • Without Trouble Funk actually playing the instruments, Regardless what version you like ....TROUBLE FUNK IS THE MUSICIANS BEHIND THE MUSIC! ..so naturally the first is the best. HANDS DOWN!!!

  • stop arguing about " hip-hop " & enjoy the song....

hip-hop is dead......Kanye & Common are 2 of the most recognized artists that people relate to hip-hop.....Leggo my ego....Good lord the two of them need 4 seats on a plane....2 for them, 2 for their egos........

anyways, this is one of the best tracks from the golden era.....every time I hear it, I think of Style Wars.

  • blackmoeses Man I remember when they rock that joint on Maryland Park field for free and drop the bomb too. Can we drop the bomb on the M.P. Crew? That's for real. Corner store. Snake

  • OLD SCHOOL RULES

  • @gemini19662007 ha haaaaaa

  • featured on Style Wars.. hah great track.

  • old school hip hop owns new hip hops ass. im a metal fan at heart but this shit and the sugar hill gang and grandmaster flash are sweet. new hip hop talks all about fucking chicks and pimpin hoes and shit. IT SUCKS

  • so many people on youtube have that opinion and yet mainstream hip hop still keeps getting more airtime. I boggles my mind as to how that's possible, I guess record companies are looking for a fast buck rather than playing to everyone else's diverse taste, they market to the biggest single genre they can find.

  • agree absolutely TM & T2M. they play to the lowest common denominator, as do the protagonists. let's face it, base instincts inherently require less thought, this appeals to the reptile class. negativity sells.

  • right you are, but lets say commercial music is listened to by 25% of the population, while every other genre gets 2% each. Totaled together all those other genres ad up to 75% percent. That's more than the mainstream's 25. But I guess it's easier to market to the 25% than it is to pander to the tastes of each 2%. In the long run though...meh, whatever. I guess satellite radio's doing something.

  • this isnt hip hop stupid. this is go go music

  • I'm quite aware it's gogo. I was speaking in general. This song is way better than any of the stuff heard on the radio.

  • Kurt used this for If I Ruled the world. Teddy used this or Drop the Bomb on Teddy Jam

  • I couldn't agree with you more...except I like Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Journey, Areosmith, Bon Jovi, and this too!

  • "Pump, pump, pump, pump me up!"

  • The Prodigy used this in their Dirtchamber Sessions Mixtape. Except it was credited as by Grandmaster Flash? :S

  • Grandmaster Flash did do another version of the same song, although it wasn't as good in my opinion

  • This brings back memories I remember going to the go-go's in dc listening to TF little benny and the masters chuck brown EU and rare essence
