my ENT specialist is not keen to recommend Gentomycin as he says it damanges the hearing to a fairly high degree: I have had no vertigo attacks for three years and I am a musician who cannot afford to have my hearing compromised further.
is this the case? feedback appreciated at my channel, please
I forgot to mention that i of course have menieres, diagnosed 10 years ago. with me the attacks come in clusters lasting a few months then nothing for 3 or 4 years, hence 2001, 2004 and a few in 2008. the worst of the attacks lasted 24 hours, I was totally immobile with vertigo, vomitting and light sensitivity. but now my hearing is going, mild tinnitus has returned, the fullness feeling but no vertigo
Hi, is not successful in everyone who has it BUT successful in 90% of people who have it! Chances are you will have relief from vertigo if you have the gent injections. Good luck
This treatment of gentamycin injections "cures" by chemically destroying that side's balance center more selectively than the hearing Cochlear. You will be left with only one Balance center on the othter side which should compensate with time. HOWEVER, your balance will NEVER be normal. Have been told from someone who has had an 8 th nerve resection that you will mostly feel like you are alway floating on an airplane flight. Also if you ever have menier's or damage to your other side, you w
By the way, I have seen multiple "specialist" about my Menier's disease. Gentamycin injections are NOT always effective and often require 2 in a series with a repeat of series if not effective. Success rates to obtain remission or possible cure seem to be anywhere from 60 to 80% from what I have been told and have read.
How brutal and Barbaric if you think of it. This man is getting an essential chemical partial 8th nerve ablation. I am a physician with severe menier's disease and can relate to why he would subject himself to this. However, for any or all you suffers of Menier's out there, I EMPLORE YOU TO TRY EVERY possible unconventional or alternative treatment or therapy out BEFORE you do something permanent like this. This is coming from a board certified Western Medicine Physician.
some people such as myself are so desperate to have their life back...I would love to knw where and who I would contact fro this procedure in Regina Sask. Canada...if anyone is reading this and can help me in anyway please let me knw!!! thank you so much!!@123456fasted
Hi, it is available just about everywhere thesedays - check out Tim Hain in USA, maybe his clinic can direct you to a clinic nearby where you are located in Canada? It has fixed my vertigo although i need top-ups every now and then. Before treatment i was having 4 big attacks of vertigo, each lasting over 5 hours! You will never look back! As for balance after gentamicin - that is not normally an issue... I was fine after treatment, some folks have gent in both sides and still manage:)
what i mean't was - 4 big attacks of vertigo each lasting 5 hours on a weekly basis!! The low salt and diurectic approach helps initally but as the disease progresses nothing tends to work... we just then seem to get worse and worse and lose more years of our lives suffering unnecessarily! Why suffer when there is ''proper effective'' treatments out there, life is too short!!!!!
I do agree with what you say. However, as a long term sufferer of this condition & i too by the way have had it very severely for past 15 years, I had to draw a line at the conventional medications as my life was so bad & i literally became housebound due to the constant attacks of vertigo. In hindsight I should have demanded destructive treatments a decade a go! I have a friend who has had a double VNS & he is living a 90% normal life again - he drives, walks, travels, swims, he's amazing!
I actually had gentamicin injects done in my right ear, along with steroid injections before that. My meniere's is so severe that I eventually ended up having the vestibular section, which ended up being the final fix.
Sometimes we are driven to have the more destructive treatments for Menieres - was the VNS time taking to rehabilitate from? Did you suffer with vertigo immediately after the surgery that is., when you came around from the anaesthetic? Was your hearing spared in the affected ear? Nice one... takes some courage to go for such an op :)
In Uk it costs private about £300 but then of course there is a consultation fee so all in all reckon you would be talking about £500 minimum for consultation and the gentamicin injection. It is very effective though but some people need a minimum of three injections before the vertigo is under control. On the otherhand some people only need the one injection and that is it! Expect some diorientation for 3- 4 weeks after having the injection though - no symptoms= no positive result.
Thanks for the reply. I phoned a few clinics in London.....ALL of them charge £1,000 per injection & was told this is the standard price in the UK as of 2010. Which clinic charges £300? Is it Mr Rea's in Leicester?
£300 is certainly more worthwhile & doable compared to £1,000! I wander if the people I spoke with meant in London the standard price is a grand & not the rest of UK, cos EVERYTHING is always more expensive in the capital compared to the rest of the country!
I just had this done yesterday. For those with fear of the needle, I had NO pain. The ENT first numbed my eardrum and I felt a slight burning feeling. After a minute, he injected with no pain and I felt "cold" in my ear. I was immediately dizzy for about 90 seconds. I then laid down for 30 minutes with no problems. No pain afterward. I had a steroid injected for hearing loss and tinnitus. No results yet. The ENT said it would take a few days. If I had read THIS before, I'd had no fear!
this injection was the best thing I ever did, gave me my life back. but 2 years ago went into the other ear so I am hoping to have it done again to my other ear. Didn't lose any hearing after 4 injections, actually got better but understand that's not the norm.
"Effectiveness of Acyclovir on Meniere's Syndrome III Observation of Clinical Symptoms in 301 cases," Mitsuo Shichinohe, M.D., Ph.D., The Sapporo Medical Journal, Vol. 68, No. 4-6, Cases of 301 MD patients treated with antiviral meds The results were: In 82.5% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Disease, 85% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Syndrome, and 89.1% of cases diagnosed as vestibular dysfunction, vertigo disappeared, and tinnitus and hearing were improved.

Morphological and clinical evidence supports a viral neuropathy in Ménière's disease (MD). Antiviral treatment controlled vertigo in 32 of 35 patients with MD (91%). PMID: 19142031 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
It's becoming common knowledge that Meniere's is caused by a viral infection and can be cured in 85%~90% of cases by taking Valtrex 1000mg three times a day or Zovirex 800mg five times a day for 4~6 weeks. These drugs are not even mentioned by most ENTs could lead many a reader to consider drastic, ineffective and irreversible surgical management which is still being pushed by many lagging doctors. sources above:
My friend is having this done soon. It's kind of painful, I heard. But if you are spinning all the time, what quality of life do you have? I guess you will do anything!
How about going up to the high altitude to see if it can correct itself?
where can i get this done in california, usa?? i have right inner ear saccular dysfunction on my right side (right ear). i think this will cure me, right?
Just like Ive said I am 50 now and its been 38 years since I have suffered it I have always lived in Mexico City but now I am living in Canada as last Christmas I got married for the very first time ! so as you can see there is always hope no matter how hard this disease may be!
i had to cover my ears to watch this, it wasn't noisy but the idea of having an injection into the ear grossed me out. but, as a nursing student i thought it would be educational & it somewhat was.
How is Barry thesedays mate? I had gent and it has helped me know end but need continual top-ups as still get setbacks, not so much vertigo now though!
I may be having this procedure soon but I'm a little worried in case I go on and develop the Meniere's in my other ear. Does anyone know whether you can have the Gentamicin Injection in both ears without the possibility of long term problems with balance? Thanks.
I have had this injection on several occasions with great success. I have nothing but praise for this procedure which has changed my life. I cannot express enough gratitude to the Consultant in the video who treats me.

A 15% concentration of tea tree oil mixed with 85% water and well mixed (the oil floats). Add a couple of drops to the infected or effected ear.
There will be a slight burning sensation. Tea tree oil can help kill the virals that are often a part of menieres and yet go undetected.
(please dilute the pure essential oil as its potent!).
I have noticed an improvement in my own condition. I don't claim this is a cure but it has helped me.
