  • more to the point when did Americans ever invent any thing useful.

  • @rallykink im sure we invented something useful, the internet prolly

  • nice video :)))

  • Name of funky tune please! Many thanks.

  • O^O

  • losers yous are nerds

  • I thought you was going to use your foot then to kick the CD into the tape slot. LOL

  • That works! ;)

  • Excellent as usual, John. I really like the way you included period cars and period equipment...

And the art direction and the subtleties and the Duran Duran and the fabric blah blah blah

  • Phekwig thank you for noticing these details, this was very fun for me. I was inspired by a new British series that goes back to 1981 and they had a DeLorean for one episode. So getting that DeLorean in the shot was pure luck, I just happened to be driving around and I was thrilled :)

  • Fantastic!!

Questions: what's the song and why is this listed under travel and events?

  • I appreciate that Paul! The tune is 1976 by RJD2. You should check out JohnnySmooth's comment down below, it was one of those surreal moments. And travel and events, well ... traveling back in time you see? Ok.. ok.. I'm stretching it there ;)

  • I thought the invention of CDs was an event! ;)

  • I cant get over it. This is awesome!!

  • It wins the cup!

    Well, it SHOULD!

  • Whereareuinrightnow?!

  • ok I don't know what the hell that was all about but I now have another JRN1 listed in my favourites. Expertly put together, nice work.

  • Cat, thanks! I wanted to tell you that I've always wanted to have that "film" look when rendering. I've now discovered that Film cameras shoot at 24.00 fps, while NTSC shoots at 30fps giving that reality TV look. But PAL shoots at 25 fps. My software easily converts to 24p, which is actually 23.976 fps. This creates the cadence of film, where during the process 6 frames/12 half-frames per second are removed from the stream. Got lucky and it was brilliant for what I was looking for :) Looks old.

  • well you definitely achieved a distinct look, I'll need to start taking notes from you!

  • So that's how it happened. >:)

  • Don't tell too many people how it happened ;) Allen, congrats on the feature buddy!

  • Thanks man. BTW I'm not sure why it took me so long to subscribe. I guess we just traveled in slightly different YT circles. You have some very original vids, and seem like a genuine guy.

  • Thank you very much for those kinds words. It's been an enjoyable run so far for me here on the Tubes since 2006. Still fun for me to come up with whatever madness goes through my head. And I am humbled by your sub.

  • Man, as soon as I saw "1980" I knew I had to hit pause, call my herbalist, my attorney, my publicist and go outside and smoke a Camel straight.

Time to get my John Reagan on...gots to be prepared. :0)

  • LOL! It's only Duran Duran--you're not missing much!

  • Hi! such a funny video! see im laghing! lmao lmao lmao and soo on.

    :-)

can't wait to talk to you! :-)

  • Haha. I can live without |:Duran:|, too.

Maybe you should check out the inside of your tape deck. Maybe there's a little cute animal, it's feeling good inside and kicks the cassette out every time you try to insert it!

  • I only get my education from johnreagannumber1, it's all I'll ever need.

  • 5 * as always

  • Great to see you here Juhler :)

  • LOL! Good one John:) I liked how the headliner is sagging down in the back of the car too:)))

  • And there I was pretending it was 1980 and it was a new car lol

  • OMG! You have an actual car phone! LOL And you would not believe how much I loved Duran Duran in the 80s =/ What can I say? I was a teenager =)

  • I actually did and do love them still ... but anything for art's sake right? :P One has to adore those 80's car phones ;)

  • LOL. I knew a guy who used to put a real phone in his car and act like he had a car phone, then cruise down the beach with the handset to his ear so he could impress the girls. HAHAAA! What a dork!

  • Hey! We used to have beepers (pagers) and used to leave the group, throw a quarter in a public phone, beep ourselves, then casually integrate back into the group ... and suddenly, we'd get beeped, looking all important to the girls ;) Sadly I can relate.

  • LOL! I suppose I could think of some pathetic stuff I did when I was younger... but I won't go there :P

  • I agree about Duran Duran! I don't know why people are so down on them lol!

(as for John's admission about paging himself. . . I didn't read that ;) haha!)

  • LOL. It just warms your heart and makes you proud, doesn't it?

  • awesome vid, john! who was singing that song? i was totally gettin' down.

  • It looks like I'll have to Save a Prayer ;)

  • haha pretty cool

  • This is too much, EMPEP!! :)

  • Never gonna happen. (Thank God)

  • Great stuff, John.

  • I hate when that happens! :)

  • Was it N.W.A. or Public Enemy who sang "9-1-1 Is a Joke"?

Good video. Frankly, i think you were too easy on that Duran Duran LP.

Although you can't do that with digital music, can you?

    Great vid.

  • this is your best work imo, 5 stars bro..

  • From beginning to fin

    Pure Resurrection of Cool

  • "Pure Resurrection of Cool", I like that one J! ... Coming from a man that combines music with video effortlessly and brilliantly, I appreciate your words.

  • even 911 did not help.. LOL

    -Frisco the Navajo

  • What are those guys THERE for if they can't deal with emergencies like this?

  • Lmao genius!

  • I knew you'd like this one Azrepheal, I was looking for something cheesy 70's mixed with some Steve McQueen-ish stuff ;)

  • You could put one hell of a sound system in that big ass prime american automobile. This makes me want to play some old cassettes! I like this real life style, its like peeking right into a JR day. Nice work mister!!!

  • Actually, I was trying for a peek into the day of Philips executive in the year the CD format was created 1979-80... I'm sure they didn't drink vodka straight from the bottle lol. And I'm thinking about putting a whole PC with monitors and mouse in that car :)

  • Nice W123 at 00:18 ;o) And the DeLorean after also looks cool (I love the Back To The Future movies)

Hehe, I have no CD-Player in my car, too ;o)

  • The one at 00:12 is a W123,but the interior shot at 00:18 is a W201, mein lieber Freund.

  • At least it isn't an 8 track. :-0

  • You are crazy!

    I love you x

  • Inspired by Ashes to Ashes babe :) x

  • Did I mention you are a genius?

  • That was a great bit of cinema, John! I'm waiting for the next installment to the saga...:-)

  • Maybe next time it will be the invention of the 'walkman'! lol! Those ghetto Blasters where kinda cumbersome. . . heehee

  • Damm John. I loved the music in this, it was very 70's reminiscent or a Tarantino soundtrack. Secondly, this film explains it all for me, now I understand the creation of the compact disc. Duran Duran needed to get broken anyway, don't fret. 911 ain't a joke so said Flava Flav

  • I was thinking very 70's throughout this whole vid, even down to the colors, and now that you said Tarantino, that's the ultimate compliment Furnilicious! You got exactly the angle I was "trying" to go for :)

  • looks like everything came together on this one. If this isnt style, I dont know what is..

    late

  • Dude, that style comment hit home in the possible ways, thanks so much.

  • Ha ha! Brilliant stuff. I knew that CDs were really created with the center chunk of vinyl records! You have solved a great mystery for us all. Thank you Mr. Reagan, you are in a class all your own.

  • I knew you had ulerior motives when you bought that caddy - a recurring prop and a fine one at that! Loved it John!

  • haha LeSa ... thanks and yes, for what that car consumes on gas, I might as well use it as a rolling YouTube prop, but I can't lie, that's why I bought it in the first place ;)

  • awesome!

  • Thanks for putting up with my mad ideas Jazz!

  • loved it. You always seems to come up with something thats amusing, intesting and fun.

  • It's the insanity :) Thanks Elfins!

  • "It's not an emergency, per se" i love that.

A man cannot live without his music :)

  • Words to live by ;)
