I don't have a day go by that I don't find out some top 20 video, they don't rank music it seems just the video, LOL. was originally bluegrass, or blues. My Dad will hear a song that everyon thinks is brand new and he will know every note. He doesn't listen to country when he can choose, it is 100% BLUEGRASS for him. If we only knew how many older songs are being revamped most people would be shocked.
Yeah I was never a big Garth fan but one thing he did that many who get so huge so fast is to forget who influenced them and in some cases helped them with songs or exposure as an opening act. Garth was always open about little known artists who he liked and covered songs they had done. Do What you Gotta do was also covered by what at the time was the #1 beach music band The Embers.
Good Call BlueEiyedSoul. Garth did record his version in 1993 with the entire new grass revival lineup (Sam Bush, Pat Flynn, Bela Fleck, and of Course John Cowan). Pretty neat thing to do I think. Not a huge Garth fan myself, but I think he has great taste in song choices, from this Dennis Linde number, to the tim O'brien song "When there is no one around", Garth even recorded a version of the Pat Flynn song "do what you gotta do".
If you listen closely to Garth's version you can clearly hear John singing tenor about all the way through the song. It has to be john because if anyone is alive who can sound like or as good as JC they haven't gone public. Plus his voice is unique in its tone.
