This is absolute crap. the trumpet solo "trading" with the amazing Vince DiMartino is one of the most embarrassing moments in the history of jazz, perhaps in all of music. If you want to know why jazz musicians despise most singers, watch this video--and try to stop yourself from gagging when you hear "the queen of scat will always be reigning I'm still a sister of scat, in training"
Pathetic. Then the "trading" starts...heaven help us all.
Reinvigorating the form he says? How so? Her time is off really badly at the 2:00 min mark. This is jazz singing? Oh please. How embarrassing. Ann should not pretend to be a jazz singer--it's the very thing that gives jazz a bad name.
With all due respect, she has an amazing voice and reach and I love her way of singing, but is she doing a homage to Ella's legendary version of 1947 or is she trying to compete?
ANN HAMPTON CALLAWAY is an insatiable creative spirit. As a champion of the great American Songbook, she has made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host and producer. A born entertainer, her unique singing style blends jazz and traditional pop, making her a mainstay in concert halls, theaters and jazz clubs as well as in the recording studio, on television, and in film.
Love ya Ann...can listen to you sing for hours!

Female vocalists such as Ann are the only jazz that I find worth listening to.

Wouldn't call it terrible, but boring it is. One of the most boring renditions I've heard. Gimme Dianne Reeves any day.
