  • Video is great, thanks. Do you have more musicality videos?

  • Hey Shawn, just wanna tell you how awesome you're for sharing the knowledge!! Thank you!! ^^V

  • Yo Shawn i just looked it up after i got home and i think i got it thankz :)

  • Shawn i kno dubstep has great beats to wrk on musicality to but do u kno of anyother types of songs it'd b rele gud ta work on it to?

  • You're so random man... Love your vids... ;)

  • If you ain't dancing to a beat, then what are you doing? It's random movement, not dancing. -- Buddha Stretch. Is the truth.

  • i have a huge problem with being offbeat, i am always rushing and faster than the music. I lose the rhythm easily even though i try counts and boom clacks. I don't notice im saying 1 2 and then next thing i know im saying 12345. Do you have any advice to fix that?

  • @yingsterssxt - YES-- STOP COUNTING. Dancing is reacting to the music, not effing numbers ahahaa. The studio trained dancers don't get this often times. Think about the origin of dance-- African drums. They aint counting as they dance. So, you must stop counting or thinking and begin LISTENING. Do not move until you hear something in the music that tells you to move. If you do this it will be impossible to be off beat cuz you react to the beat and nothing more. Does that make sense?

  • @KyMace Everyone has their own preference. whatever works for you whether its counting or just listening to the instruments... find what works for you but try both

  • @yingsterssxt you really got to slow down and just feel the beat. When you slow down and take your time the beat will come easier. You probably just thinking too much and esp. when you are dancing front of others it could easily get you off beat. Just turn on your music, preferrably a r&b or a simple bass/snare jam and just start pacing yourself

  • dude thanks ! thats what i really needed!!

  • yaaaay

  • im trying to remember the beat you did at 4:06-4:13.

something like ; boom clack ta-ta ta-ta ta ta ta boom clack boom boom clack boom boom booom...

hopefully the beat can help me get the moves in motion !

  • Shawn. I've been dancing for just over 3 years now. I enjoy freestyling the most but I try to choreograph to a lot of things. I know a lot of the choreographers use the 1234 method. I don' t know if that helps them better or what. After I finished a choreography I try to count it out by numbers. I just can't do it. Though I play 3 instruments, I still can't get the countings 123 or 1234 in my dance. I can easily pick up the beats and what not, but never the 1234. Can you tell me how to do it?

  • @Msching why isn't shawn responding to these comments? Aww well, i will. DUDE-- don't try converting to counts. That's for people who can't listen to music. Think about the origin of dance-- drums, bells, etc. African dance. Those cats ain't counting in their head, i laugh at cats who count. Maybe i'm an asshole, oh well ahaha. If one dances one should learn to listen to MUSIC b/c dance is the response to the music. So basic yet so misunderstood. Fuck the counts man.

  • @KyMace I havent been responding to videos in the past few weeks. Getting caught up...but thanks for replying to his post.

  • @Msching Dont worry about the counting too much...counting could get complicated but the most important thing is if you are on beat and what beats are hitting. If you are teaching your choreography if you don't know the counts its fine but make sure you know what beat and explain how to hit it. Whoever you are teaching will appreciate that...the anal technical people might ask for counts.

  • Shawn has no sense of musicality ,

he is boring and monotonous ,

    his tutorials suck !

    THUMBS UP IF U DISAGREE !! :P :D

    shawn u rock !!

  • YOU DOPE as always!!

  • wow!! i thought i was the only one who used that method at 4:14.freestyling to ur own beat.

  • @MindfreakMKA apparently a LOT of us do this but just didn't have a name for it! LOL! I do the same thing and always did when I danced even with the music. I took this for granted thinking it didn't HAVE to be taught, but I guess what's "normal" for you, is a revelation for someone else.

  • @TheSubwaysurfer A lot of us do the same things thinking we are the only ones that do it. A lot of dancers have a great amount of natural similarities...i know i do a lot of weird dancer things im sure people do

  • i need to meet shawn phan before i die

  • @littlementos Well lets meet up i am thinking of having a dancer ralley where we just pick a spot whether its a park or something...someplace big...and just invite dancers to come out say what sup and just session. Meet and greet type of thing i would be down to host it

  • @Muzicsoulrhythm eh i would love that but i live on the east coast :(

  • the problem wit freestyling and dancing like this is most people dont kno where to place there arms to make it look good lol i had that problem for so long

  • coool!!!

  • keep doing what you do its much appriciated

  • Your nieces look bored, are you trying to FORCE dance on them or something? So much for it being fun LOL

  • @TheExpressWay lol its already been done. They have been hit with the dance bug they can't stop

  • Wow, this makes sense, and it will mos def help me out

    a lot with my presence.

  • I say, ka then clack, lol

sounds like clack a bit when you make it sound like that :D

  • Thanks shawn

  • Nice video bro keep up the good work

hey where would you get good dance music

  • @MrTNTBitch everyone has a different taste. I would go watch other dancers and see what they dance to...daft punk provides good music but i prefer r&b soul so i look at the old school beats

  • @Muzicsoulrhythm ok thanks man ilove you videos keep it up

  • @MrTNTBitch if you want intricate beats download music from a genre called dubstep. If you want r&b then you can get that anywhere on BET. Pop music go to mtv.

  • @Muzicsoulrhythm Thanks so much man
