I was on the same instructors' course as Neil (also Vass Morrison) at the ILEA College of PE in London, back in 1976. Neil was a fantastic instructor then - good to see him continuing.
Here is the Japanese Etiquette of wearing red and White stripe (6th to 8th Dan) or Red (9th and 10th Dan) belts:
The Red-white belt masters can also wear a black belt. Ethically, if these sensei preside at a meeting or a training, they should use the Red-white belt. If they wished to enter competition or randori or combat, they should wear the black belt. No pupil, due to a question of respect, shall ever immobilize or throw a master wearing a "red-white" belt.
Not really a criticism, more of an observation. Neil Adams is an 8th Dan. Why does he not wear the red and white belt? Obviously, you all know, the red and white belt is from 6th plus.....
