Shawn lane aint even close..Ive listen to shawn since he played for black oak arkansas...shawn isnt a pimple on guthrie ass....People need to quit comparing guthrie to others ass I have yet to see anyone technique,phrasing,innovate, and play any style or any person music cleaner and better than the person who originaly wrote it. He has no equall musically, There is another guy that is my 2nd fav Alex Hutchings...check him out you wont be disappointed.

@Tonesnob72 oh dear....resorting to insulting his weight. Thats the same thing as saying Katy Perry is good because she is hot. Thats kind of sad for someone who thinks he has good taste in music(which I presume you think you do). And robot feeling? I'll point you to epilogue for lisa, once upon a time in the west, his cover of watermelon in easter hay, death theme, get you back. Just because he blazed doesn't mean he didn't put emotion into every note.

@Kingding6 Been listening to shawn lawn since black oak arkansas...hes a great player, just no where near Guthrie, he sweeps great and legato great and alternate picks great, thats about it, I know he has some good ballads but come on man Guthrie is basically unmatched inalmost everystyle and has a clip where he chameleons every great player in a few minutes and does it equally or better than the guy hes covering.

@Tonesnob72 why do you think that being able to play like everyone else makes you the best? Yea, Guthrie can play almost every style, but so can Lane. And in terms of composition, I think Lane takes the cake to. Guthrie is now 40, by that time, Lane had put out three ENTIRELY improvised fusion albums, two solo albums and three indian fusion albums. Thats pretty chameeonish to me.

@Kingding6 Yup have all those albums,, they are ....ok. Its not about the quantitiy but the quality of the music. The indian music was obscure to me but Im sure they are a few natives that liked it. Ive seen shawn live 3 times and guthrie twice, guthrie improvisations sound better than shawns meticulously thought planned songs, you being twenty five would know about since he was dead before you got to see him.

@pazzmodium You would do well to check out Larry Carlton, and since this track reminds me so much of them, any album by Steely Dan, Virtually every guitarist they've every used has sounded like this at one time or another.

This guy has some serious issues.... I mean, what guitar player do we know of in the last 20 years or so that is a versatile as him, and why o why does it sound like he has an endless supply of new chops and riffs. I think that Guthrie has most certainly set the bar for guitar gods and I doubt that someone will come along anytime soon to show him otherwise. He is a facking inspiration.
