It was a civil war in which Chiang ,with larger army forces but lack popular support, lost. US timely cut in and backed the nationalist party in hope to weaken China. Taiwan was, is and will be part of China which will claim her sovereignty when she is ready! US civil war did not lead the south to become independent. This should not happen to Taiwan, either!

China has been called "Han", "Tong" "Chin"... so on so forth. Those were just different names for China. Chiang Kai sheik took his government to Taiwan in 1949. That government had a seat at UN and represented China. Now , according to UN mainland China is China and Taiwan is a province of China. This is political reality. She is a girl from Taiwan province who loves China. No need to complicate simple matters. We should learn to accept this. I grew up in Taiwan. I know how people feel there.
