Thanks for making this really easy to follow. I just got this program a couple days ago and am downloading independance free as I write this. I figured out how to get Guitar rig working with this but had no idea about how I was going to do drums. Thanks again
Is it possible to save the drum track into multiple WAV files? For example, if I record a 4 minute song, can I export it in many individual 4 minute WAV files containing the kick, hi hat, snare, etc? Bit of an odd request, I know, but it will help with what I'm trying to achieve.
@TheRockinPajamas Not an odd request at all - that's actually what I do. I put the drum FX on a parent track and create individual child tracks for the kick, snare, hat, etc. I write the whole drumline on the parent track, and then when I'm done, I glue all of the patterns together and copy/past it onto the child tracks. I then erase what I don't want so that the kick track only has kick, etc. Then mute all the other child tracks and render the parent track. Email if you need more info.
@6Fresh6Till6Death6 I have never heard of that happening. Are you right clicking on the drum track in REAPER and going to "Render Stem Track"? That should create a normal audio track (non-MIDI). I can only surmise that there's some weird default thing happening with your MIDI, since most MIDI defaults to piano. Can you send me a message with a step by step of what you're doing?
3. during intallation he'l ask to search automatically for VST directory ==> press yes after that select C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins (or you can manually point to this dir)
4. unzip all Independence Free Content 01 upto 08 and copy them to the directory: C:\Program Files\Yellow Tools Root Folder\image files
5. when you open Reaper for the first time he'll ask you to point to yellow tools directory, you should select: C:\Program Files\Yellow Tools Root Folder\
I actually found a way to get passed this (my previous comment), maybe it's not the formal way but I got it, I think. I just made the midi canvas five minutes long then stretched the measures in the piano roll. No more looped/repeating parts. lol
The only thing I'm having trouble with is expanding my midi track. I want to make it longer but everything I compose in the first measure keeps getting repeated, and when I delete the duplicates of the other measures my original stuff gets erased. I've went to "item properties" and lengthened my midi track. But I don't like doing so because I'd rather compose as I go and not have a fixed time. Can I do something to fix this?
There are a few ways to do this. One is to just keep adding new MIDI items (Insert--->New MIDI Item) for each new pattern you want. The other way is to click on the right edge of the MIDI item in the main timeline and drag it over to stretch it as far as you want. As you've noticed, this will cause it to repeat the original pattern. If you go into that pattern and click on the colored bar on the right edge, you can drag that over and create new space. Sounds like you got that one already!
Man, I really can't believe you don't have any comments in this vid. It's really helpful to me because I'm a Reaper user and never understood it so well, i just use it to record ideas that i have on guitar but never knew i could use vst drums and such.
I'd really like to chat with you if you have any time, send me a message with your e mail if you want to. I have a lot of questions about the drum recording stuff and such. Great vid and explanations.
how did you get the notes themselves to belong like that when i track the drums the notes showing are tiny
