I totally agree that we should abolish the federal government. We don't need a federal government. It was a mistake to create it in the first place as Patrick Henry said. All the states should secede and form voluntary alliances.
@michaelpshipley1 -- The best way to have rich lower/middle class is to have lots of businesses. Redistribution of wealth currently planned is GLOBAL not just the US. Global income is $2 per day -- global government = global poverty. This video about World poor/immigration demonstrates the point with gumballs. Easy to understand. I'm voting Ron Paul as his financial plan doesn't cut government assistance checks, as he balances the budget.
hey will, i think when i decide to make the trip, i will sail a boat from brownsville (south padre island) around the east coast and call it sailforliberty. would have been better if i traveled from washington state, through the panama, but i'll leave that for someone more venturous. not quite as physical as your trip, unless i were to do it on a surfboard......not!!!!!!!by the way, go Ron Paul and Peter Schiff, what a team..along with the rest of us........
Gonna need some warmer shoes soon Will, If all the roads are private and say we have to pay a nickle to travel each different section...then say some guy/gal or group of guys/gals comes along and buys all the roads...then decide they are going to charge a dollar to travel each section of the road. How would we manage that?
the same way you would deal with someone charging $10 for a loaf of bread. you don't buy it. eventually he has to charge a fair market value if he wants any money. by the way will, good conversation today, one of your better ones. gemhunter, good question, but i think i answered it.
maybe...if you are unable to bake your own bread you will starve (assuming of course all the bakers have been bought by Wal-Bread), if you are unable to get to work other than travel on the roads (which are a monopoly now), well...we could go on. I like to play the Devils Advocate occasionally ;o) good for the discussion and the soul.
Given a system of private roads I'd assume most shippers would lock into contracts to guarantee a fixed toll rate and towns would have similiar contracts keeping the 'town' roads open for public use.
But, since we aren't starting at zero. I suspect, highways would have to transition from government ownership to something like public trust companies with the 'locals' owning a (controlling?) block of shares.
"I-80 corp, just undercut I-84 corp's tolls 20% today in a bid for more traffic"
There is the foundation of an old toll booth on CT rte.45 about halfway up the mountain. It's left over from when the road was private and maintained with tolls. One of my ancestors was an owner so I tend to think about these things as well.
Yesterday I was sorely tempted to pack up my tools, light the house on fire and drive to NH. The State of CT is stealing another $1k in income taxes on money I earned (and paid taxes on) in NY.
At least you dont have too far to travel if you do decide to go...I have to come from the west coast, gas will be on my mind. Maybe I should just walk there, haha. Then I'd never make it.

Well that sounds like a logical, common sense approach. I can see that working. Thanks.
Maine Turnpike is increasing tolls by ~25% because of reduced traffic.

I agree, I know states take in alot of money through taxes, tolls,etc.. And usually take in more than they say the "budget" is.
