Indeed I have been to Europe - I lived in Switz for a year. At a minimum, Banelux, Netherlands, Germany, Scand., France, Switz and Austria ALL get free or near free health care.
There are SOME university fees, but they are 90% less than Americans pay. A typical uni semester in Europe costs about $500. The same in America costs AT LEAST $5000 - and twice or more that at a private college.
35 hour work week in France... 30 days paid vacation in Europe, normally (we get 15 in the US) etc.
I go to Youtube to mainly listen to music, laugh, or watch a play/walk through. But hey, the internet is the only free thing in the world. That's ironic, a thing you pay monthly for, is more free then anything on this planet.

people forget that black people had nothing to do with the civil war. It was more of a war for states rights. IT was a war of power. To have a strong central government or to have a strong state government. The south just couldnt out produce the north. The only way slavery was tied in was when Abraham Lincoln declared all SOUTHERN SLAVES to be freed. Most of the south could have cared less. It was only the rich people who had slaves that were taken aback. Northern slave owners were un-effected.

I was commenting on the Confederacy. Other slave societies are equally abhorrent, for example Imperial Brazil which kept on to their slaves into the 1880s and the modern indentured slave states in West Africa and other places.
The problem is the institution of slavery is the death of all human rights and a reversion to the most indecent barbarism possible. 'States rights' as an issue is trivial compared to slavery.

Funny thing is that both Lincoln and the South wanted the same thing- to end slavery slowly. Lincoln for legal reasons (slaves WERE property) and the South cuz it wasn't economically feasible. If the South hadn't seceded slavery would have disappeared anyway. Dixie just wanted to do so w/o government interference. Southern prode, y'know.

The reason WHY the Euros can afford these great benefits is the fact that the US is providing, and has provided the defense shield for them.
Thus, they do not have to pay for real militaries - in fact, their militaries can be extensions of their welfare states. So yes, the American taxpayer does not DIRECTLY pay for these benefits, but the indirect payment, through the expenses on defense outside of the US, is real.
Without it, the Socialist Paradise would be impossible.

Indeed I have been to Europe - I lived in Switz for a year. At a minimum, Banelux, Netherlands, Germany, Scand., France, Switz and Austria ALL get free or near free health care.
There are SOME university fees, but they are 90% less than Americans pay. A typical uni semester in Europe costs about $500. The same in America costs AT LEAST $5000 - and twice or more that at a private college.
35 hour work week in France... 30 days paid vacation in Europe, normally (we get 15 in the US) etc.

The Irish weren't the only ones to go through what you discribe. Be mad about it if you like but the Irish have no special claim to being "outcasts" many groups fell into that same catagory. Italians, French, Germans and Chinese suffered the same fate.
And no I am not forgetting, I understand it quite well. Plus the Irish did find a better life in the States.

No it wasn't and no, "Johhny" wasn't a Confederate officer. The lyrics were written by Patrick Gilmore who was the bandmaster of the 24th Massacusetts. The original sheetmusic carries a dedication to "the army and the navy of the Union". It was popular in the south but the lyrics were written by a northener.
