The very same issue was brought up in my African American writing class. Discussion was on reparations. Obviously black students were all for it. But the caucasians were not only against it but also stressed on equality (to escape racist label I guess).
Being an Indian, as a third person, it seemed as if blacks were begging for justice from the very same masters who made them beggars in first place.

By the time 1945 came around no one was willing to risk that. About 1890 would've been the right time for it, once people realized Reconstruction wasn't ever going to happen. Lots of lives would've been lost but in some ways it would be a more 'honest' solution than the civil rights era brought

I'm afraid the African nations are such worthy role models, nor are the predominantly black states. X strikes me as a frustrated would-be conqueror without an army.
