Actually, Obama voted 'present' when the bill came up in the Senate and only because the proposed ban did not contain a provision allowing it if necessary to protect the woman's health. He never said he was in favor of it. Striking down the ban would simply have allowed states to regulate the procedure. It is a very rare procedure in any case. It sounds gruesome but it is also scary to think that we would allow legislators to make serious medical decisions rather than doctors.
