@TheSantiayo No Lion or Snow Leopard on a PowerPC Mac, those require the Intel processor. The newest OS that can run on PowerPC is Leopard. But, because this is a G3 PowerPC the newest that can run on a clamshell iBook is Tiger.
@carlblemming Can someone take the ibook clamshell, take everything out, install everything of a macbook pro lets say 13 inch, made some stuff, and create the most powerful ibook ever?
@applefreak441 I used the Addonics CF-IDE adapter. The old 6GB hard drive was removed, and replaced with this adapter with two compact flash cards plugged into it.
I have always wanted to grab a graphite 466 iBook but never bothered looking for one. This video has inspired me to. I never really liked the orange, blue or green but love the graphite.
@carlblemming I have a question for you, I dont know how long Compact Flash have been installed on the laptops it is a new concept for me. Anyway what are the upsides an downsides to replacing a hard drive for compact flash. Thanks
@chrisNova777 Please post video on your pimped G3. I had a b&w with a 1 GB RAM and 1 ghz G3 upgrade, a flashed 64 mb video card. I would call performance with tiger...ok. I gave it to a non profit last year as I wasn't using it much. You can upgrade to a G4 1.25 single, but I decided that really wasn't worth it since used G4 duals are going for a song these days, and can run leopard, which a b&w will never do without some MAJOR hacks (WWDC 2007 beta leopard kernel extensions and what not).
@chrisNova777 - like carlblemming said, the hard drive performance will feel about the same, maybe programs will open a little faster. The graphics card should help a lot, as those old g3's dont have a very good one in them. one other way to help make it faster is add more or max out ram (if not done already).
What is the CPU speed on yours? I would say in the future you could get a g4 tower probably for about $50-70
@chrisNova777 My goal with using flash for storage was to reduce the noise from the hard drive. This was a success, the machine is near silent now. A side benefit was greater battery life. As far as speed goes, reading data is faster than a hard drive, but writing is slower - performance-wise it seems to be generally the same as a hard drive. Maybe a bit faster, but it's hard to tell.
Oh my gosh. You might have just saved me from pure OS 9.
I've been sticking with OS 9 for speed on my iMac G3, thinking that OS X would be too slow on a G3. But the internet on it SUCKS. A modern browser for Panther means I can upgrade! Thank you for this video!
Sorry, I played it on 480p and saw you had the legendary Bon Echo Firefox build on it. I have never been able find a Panther version for download. Did you just have it around?
NICE. It may be even faster if you ran Camino instead of Firefox on it....the last Panther supported version is 1.6.9 if memory serves me well. VLC will also play youtube flash files that I downloaded with MacTubes on my 466 key lime clamshell, before I gave it away to a vet tech I work with. Why did I do that? Opera 10 would run on Panther too, and you can scale the screen so its like you have a 1024 X 768.
@sucramdi This iBook model had one speaker. You can see it above the keyboard and to the left. There is also an audio out jack to plug headphones into, but I never use that.

Was this using a CF to IDE adapter?

Very nice! I love the old iBooks, so to see one holding up even into 2010 is nice.
BTW, where did you get that background? That's awesome. :)

@jparenti03 Thanks -- I made the background by taking a photo of the other side of the lid!
