The thing to remember is that idol groups are not primarily about making music; they're about establishing emotional connections with the fans, to keep them interested -- and therefore spending money -- even when the music sucks.

As for remembering them all, it just takes time to become familiar with them.

I think they are a lot better than akb actually. they are real idols! Because they simply "graduate" which means they leave the project for new members to come up. That's why they also have their gen names, currently they are 9 members in Momusu and it's the 8th or 9th generation.

The HPK groups (Berryz Koubou and C-ute) average 14-15 years old, and almost all of the members are still in middle school.

Morning Musume averages 18-19 years old, and many of the members are done with school. (Most at least graduate high school, but a few like Reina have dropped out.)

It may not seem like a big difference, but it is in both style and work schedule.
