  • Hate the Steelers, love this commercial!

  • want my coke? XD sounds like a drug DEALER

  • Still the greatest Super Bowl commercial of all time.

  • "Hey kid, do my laundry!''

  • the great legendary player of all time

  • If Baltimore had beaten the Pats, I would done an updated version of this with Ray Lewis. It would of been awesome and had a similar effect!

  • Thumbs-up if delicious COCA-COLA sent you here.

  • What a shock - black athletes loved coke in the 70's.

  • ol dirty stanky towel...

  • Family Guy XD

  • Super Bowl's Greatest Commercial

  • @dougbarrett619part2 I think the Bud 9/11 ad was pretty good too as well as the Cindy Crawford Pepsi ad!

  • I cant imagine what that jersey is worth now

  • Miracle sent me here.

  • hey kid catch wow thanks mean joe hey he's not really mean at all

ya he's a nice guy hahaha family guy hahaha

  • This is awesome... Made me wanna buy glass bottled Coke. Maybe I'll get Sprite ones too!

  • Kid: Want my coke?

    Greene: Okay

Go get a smile...makes me feel good *as Greene snorts up the white powder*

    ...makes me feel nice...

  • "Fuck this smelly ass shirt, I want another coke!!!!"

  • These commercials make me so jealous. I mean people back then were able to enjoy an ice cold, CANE SUGAR/GLASS BOTTLED Coke. I wish I had that!!!!! Common Coke, we want the real thing!!! If you gave us the real deal, then I'd definitely start buying Coke.

  • @TheIzkool Pepsi has permanantly released their Throwback Pepsi and Throwback Mt. Dew, both have cane sugar in them.

  • @wolfen26 Well actually Throwback Pepsi is not made with PURE cane sugar. They use sucrose, which is a blend of beet and cane sugar. So technically it is not the real thing. And most importantly it is not in a glass-deposit/returnable bottle. So, they still have a long way to go. Deposit bottles are the way to go. Currently Coca-Cola Winona, MN sells 24/6.5 ounce glass bottle Cokes for $6 plus deposit. Now that's the way it should be. Screw Mexican Coke which runs $1.50 per bottle.

  • @TheIzkool they have glass bottles in the south.

  • @noremac4343 Yes. I can buy them too. The only problem is that they are not glass returnable bottles with PURE CANE SUGAR. They are $5 for a 6 pack (expensive!). Glass deposit bottles and PURE CANE SUGAR are the way to go because they are the ultimate form of recycling and they make the soda taste great. Deposit bottles also cut down on the cost due to how you are only paying for the soda inside the bottle. Coca-Cola Winona, MN is still doing this and it costs $6 for 24 bottles.

  • @TheIzkool Coca-Cola West in the Sasebo area also does this. 90 yen for a Coke is awesome, when a regular can costs 100 yen. And I am almost positive that they use real sugar, too.

  • @SirSnivyofNottingham Whoa. Are you referring to a city in Japan?? I'm strictly just talking about how America should do deposit bottle/cane sugar Coke. If that's the case, then America should take some lessons from Japan.

  • @TheIzkool Yes. But just the bottler serving Sasebo, Nagasaki prefecture. Nagasaki city does not do this, and it is limited in Fukuoka (mainly done by yatai).

  • @SirSnivyofNottingham Yeah. I just hope that America will eventually go back to the deposit bottle/cane sugar sodas. It's just the practical way to drink and buy soda.

  • @TheIzkool Well, with all of these attempts at going "green", somebody is bound to pitch such suggestion to the Coca-Cola Company, who could, in turn, pass this suggestion down to the bottlers. After all, returning and reusing glass bottles is much more "green" than returning plastic bottles, melting them down, then making new bottles. And not only that, but it would save the bottlers a shit-tonne of money, since they would not have to buy as many new bottles.

  • @SirSnivyofNottingham Absolutely. I’ve already voiced my opinion to Coca Cola many times about this topic through email. I recently talked to the man who runs Coca Cola Winona (the last Coke bottler in US who use glass returnables). Surprisingly he said plastic was the way to go due to how glass would make the trucks heavier which would cause more gas consumption.Still the savings through deposit bottles would override the costs for gasoline. And people would just love it!!

  • Joe had to drink several bottles of coca-cola before they got the take that they finally liked.

  • hmm 1979 when the kid asked if you want my coke, he saw it wasn't the powder, so he was all dissapointed, you could tell by reaction.

  • family guy brought me here

  • did you know they made a documentary about this commercial. evidence that this is the greatest commercial of all times!

  • Coke, this can be interpreted in many different ways nowadays :D

  • My favorite commercial of all time.

  • The great MEAN JOE!

  • my sis lives on top of him he in apartments lol we play catch when i stay at my sis house

  • nastolgia

  • NIgga stole the kids coke call the cops!

  • Comment removed

  • that was touching ಥ_ಥ

  • I'm surprised the kid wasn't black.

  • @SamWhitemoon1 why?

  • still great after all of these years. Lee Lacy directed the spot for McCann/NY, I believe. How do I know that? I represented Lee from 1989 to 1992...great talent and a great guy. We made some good money together.

  • hitler think mean joe is a nice guy

  • this ws funny on familyguy

  • Kid- "Here take my "coke" it'll make you forget that injury and get you back on the field in no time!"

Joe- "No thanks, I'm a weed man."

  • that's happened to me hahahah nrl 1999 grand final

  • there was a tv movie sequel to this commercial, where the kid is trying to get Mean Joe's shirt back to him for some reason ... wow, the things i remember.

  • @TheTrusouldj why would he do that?

  • @MIXEDUPTHROWNTOGETHR It's been a long time, but I'm guessing that Mean Joe was on a losing streak and the kid thought that he needed his jersey to reverse his bad luck ... Here, you go. Found this on Wikipedia:

In 1981, "The Steeler and the Pittsburgh Kid" expanded the Coke commercial into a TV movie with Greene playing himself and the kid played by Henry Thomas, who soon after starred as Elliot in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

  • Awesome commercial. Coca-Cola is my favorite soda brand. In fact is regular Coke that is my favorite.

  • I was a LET'S GO STEELERS Diehard Teenager when my Fave 1970's Commercial First Aired in 1979 ~ BLACK 'N' GOLD STEELER NATION HOOAH!!

  • Kid - Cee Lo Green....Cee Lo Green?

    Cee Lo Green - yeah

kid - i think your the best ever. want my coke?

Cee Lo green - yeah sure (finishes coke) NOW FU*K YOU!!!!

  • were the hell are this kids parents?

  • @123456789Johnx i dont think at the 70's the parents were the most protective ones ;) only a few i think

  • I wish I could find the Snl satire where instead of Mean Joe, it was a Sumo wrestler, guess what he throws to the kid!

  • He's no to mean...

  • wow he really isn't that mean at all

  • what a bunch of propaganda haha

  • @dtp5150

..Propaganda of what? Is hitler back? Its an advertisment for Coke. How is this "A bunch of propaganda"? "OH SHIT, AFTER THAT COKE ADVERT I BETTER DRINK ONLY COKE AND NOTHING BUT, HOLY FUCK IF I DON'T I WONT BE ABLE TO SMILE"

Its an advert, not some government conspiracy to brainwash you.

  • @MrRukale kid gives dude a "coke" for being one of the most badass athletes in the world at the time. Dude must subordinate, not deserving this prized "coke" offered by a child with a better vocabulary. There is a reason this type of advertisement only worked with these two particular personalities and was OK'd to air at this particular point in time.

  • @dtp5150

And you got that from a coke advert. Thats completely the wrong message entirely. Just.. Wow.

  • @MrRukale only 50% crazy

  • u know, i've never seen this before now, and now that i have i'm laughing all over again b/c of the family guy episode where peter is that kid. lol

  • He drank that coke like I drink beer.

  • Comment removed

  • I like how the cap randomly teleports off it.

  • It's funny because this kid is in his 40s now lol

  • He fucking pounded down that coke.

  • "Hey kid."

    "Huh?"

"CATCH!" *throws empty bottle at the kid's face*

  • @eternal0star Ahahahahahahahah i was expecting that

  • Thumbs if F@nboy$ sent you here!

  • @TheWillbilly1 Hurm...

  • @YorkJonhson hurm what

    why are you hurming

    did i do something wrong

    FORGIIIIIIVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • @TheWillbilly1 Oh hey, forgot about that webcomic.

  • Damn he drank that coke like water.

  • "Cee Lo Green i think you're the best ever" - kid

"NOW F%#K YOUUU!!!" - Cee Lo Green

  • What

  • I love how the huge black guy so willingly stole the tiny white kids drink

  • @kennethgagneisawesom it's hardly stealing when somebody gives it to you, although I shouldn't really respond to the trolls.

  • This commercial also aired in ace Ventura pet detective

  • in real life this kid would'nt come with in 20 ft of him do to security and other fans rushing in. Also mean joe would'nt give a rats ass about him.

  • @808bayside actually you are wrong about both. The security didn't start getting crazy until the early 90's, and even then, you could still get access. You could do a lot of things involving the players back then that you cant now

And for the second part, Mean Joe was very fan friendly, especially to children.

  • He fucking downed that shit.

  • i expected him to let out a huge burp

  • @phoenixsuns331

Greene has stated that they did have to refilm the commercial multiple times because he kept burping after he drank the Coke.

  • One of BEST commercials of all time. Joe really was MEAN! He sparkled here

  • We watched this in school.

  • "Coke adds life" Now I have a reason to do coke.

Oh no, Not the drink, the drug.

  • i always think of the family guy one hahahah

  • Anyone redall the Sesame Street parody of this?

It was dumb but still funny.

  • wheres peter griffin?

  • @mrvector3000 In hell, who the fuck cares

  • @DenOfVipers damn someone's piss

  • Today's Pittsburgh Steeler would have just thrown the kid the empty bottle.

  • COKE ADDS LIFE, NOW I KNOW WHY SO MANY PEOPLE DO DRUGS

  • i like it :) simple and honest :)

  • he doesnt seem mean at all (in my peter griffin voice)

  • Cold coke for a sweaty ass jersey..... good deal

  • GAS-LESS COKE! xD

  • that was a long ass commercial

  • Such a classic!! I remember it well.... In all honesty, I am fairly certain that this is one of the only 32 year old commercials I remember!!

  • Lol is that Andy Barkley?

  • I've gotta give Steven Spielberg a coke!

  • smile, because coke doesnt stain your teeth or anything :P

  • Delightful Coke Commercial..

  • Care to place a bet the kid's still got the jersey?

  • KID GONNA GET RAPED IN THAT HALL

  • How did that kid get in there? o.O

  • best ad ever

  • How many else thought he would throw the bottle instead?

  • This is very cute, but how long has it been since they allowed glass bottles in a stadium? These days that kid would've been hauled to security!

  • Thanks Mean Joe!

  • This practically made me cry.

  • Hahaha, awesome. I wish I could chug coke like he does, in one breathe!

  • I saw The Newhart Show with Bob Newhart and one of the episodes was where Bob and his friends was at Boston Garden home of the Celtics and Bob lost his bench pass and couldn't see the rest of the game. So when one of the Celtics was limping off the court Bob gave his soft drink to him, then when the ball player was finished he tossed his green sneakers to Bob and I couldn't stop laughing.

  • Who let that kid go down there?

  • who's the kid? he looks familiar.....

  • @lusciouslady73 according to "For God, Country & Coca-Cola" the boy is Tommy Oken, and the reason the ad worked so well is he really was in genuine awe of "Mean" Joe Greene, and kept muffing his lines. Greene had to chug 18 bottles of Coca-Cola before they got it right.

  • @tourguide9 I bet he belched a thousand times....

  • @eldi72

Mean Joe Green actually did belch. They showed it on one of those blooper shows. Not sure if anyone on youtube has the clip, though.

  • What I love is that he sucks down the whole thing in like 4 seconds.

  • funny thing is im drinking a pepsi max right now

  • how didnt he burp after chugging that coke?!?!?

  • thumbs up if your drinking coke!

  • open happiness

  • 1979.---Ozzy became the prince of darkness!!!

  • coca cola for life!!

  • thanks mean joe! wow hes not really mean at all

  • You know Coke used to have cocaine in it? That's why it was so popular in the 1800's, it would make people feel good and keep them addicted. True story. Look it up.

  • Want me cock?

Sure kid, take my dirty towel!

  • HE DRINKS THE KIDS COKE AND GIVE HIM A SMELLY SHIRT

  • @darrell60302 its his jersey... obviously worth a lot to a fan

  • Guy1: He isn't so mean after all

    Guy2: Nah he's a nice guy!

  • Mean Joe Green

  • Love this! Brings back so many memories, and is still able to put a smile on my face! :-)

  • 1:03 to skip add

  • gigity gigity goo thumbs up for Family guy version

  • Anyone heard the local Burgh legend that Mean Joe was a dick to the kid on set? I did so many times growing up. Funny though, he is Mean Joe Green WTF you expect? Thumbs up if you've heard it.

  • @RonPaul2008DotComYal He was not mean to the kid and is supposed to be a nice guy in real life. He was called Mean for two reasons. 1-It rhymes with Greene, 2-He was the most fearsome linebacker of his generation. He broke through offensive lines like they were made of paper and was every quaterback's worst nightmare. The four-time Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers of the late 70s was absolutely the most balanced team in the NFL. Actually, they were flawless.

  • @arkady714 Dude I'm Burgh born and raised. You don't need to tell me nothing about the Stillers! I was only asking if anyone heard that rumor not if it was true. Next you'll be telling me why it's called the steel curtain or why it was called 3 rivers stadium :)

  • @RonPaul2008DotComYal Your original post did not say you were from Pittsburgh. It also implied that he was called mean because he was a dick to the kid in the ad, or so I thought.

  • @arkady714 he wasnt a linebacker he was a defensive end

  • @LoganfarbarTV I'm not sure if that's the same thing as defensive tackle, but when I looked it up on wikipedia, it credited Greene as being a defensive tackle. In any case, he was not a linebacker. My bad.

  • @arkady714 i think your right he was a tackle

  • @RonPaul2008DotComYal Shut the hell up you skunk butt sniffer, that is a lie, hence that why its called a legend.

  • I heard that the original choice for this commercial was Roger Staubach, but the producers decided that the white kid/Afro-American combination was more socially meaningful. Thumbs up!!

  • He's not so mean, he's actually a really nice guy.

  • waw thanks a sweaty towel XD

  • @8888CoolM8888 it was his jersey

  • @8888CoolM8888 U stupid kid you should know that that is a jersey

  • saw this on Family Guy last night and had to check it out

  • oh god my heart!!

  • Anyone else want a coke now?

  • @julianchelo no coke. pepsi. lol

  • @julianchelo Coke? Sure. But what it REALLY makes me want back are the 70's and 80's. Just had a different feel to them.

  • Im gonna drink a bottle of soda everyday.

  • thumbs up if just thinkin of this shit got u here

  • Thumbs up if just plain ol' Football brought you here

  • The '79 Steelers were awesome!

  • Lol, the House MD version was better than all of them.

  • I have a coca cola commercial too, check my channel!

  • have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up

  • I have the jersey from that came from this commerical ^^

  • Thats no Pittsburgh kid - for sure - some little punk with a NY accent.

  • Why would you dislike a Coke add??? XD Especially this one. lol

  • This video finally has over 1 million views. Seriously, it is the greatest commercial ever! =D

  • I would die if I drank a bottle of coke that fast..

  • 26 people either work for pepsi or are offensive line men

  • On 416/11 - how can 26 vote "thumbs down on this?

  • for a guy that didnt want a Coke, he sure chugged it down rather fast lol

  • That little boy is my tech ed teacher!

    hhahaha. c:

    srhsc:

  • well he's not really mean at all.... nah he's a nice guy

  • "Ah, he's not so mean after all!"

  • @Jokerhaha01

No, I guess he's not! That just goes to show that looks and names can both be decieving!

  • my tech ed teacher is the little boy in this commercial
