This is the early Whistler-Blackcomb original joint concept from 1999 and it was at the time, a project to be released between XP and Vista (around 2003 or 04)
i must say Ubuntu Linux did it better , and this idea i just stupid, well the idea isnt really stupid its more the way they have it with this "gallery" shit i mean come on
this is fucking stupid! why would anybody like to play a videogame trying to find the windows instead of getting the damn work done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL...don't you know that Windows OS takes many years to complete, not just 1 or 2 years? This may be a project they were working on for the "post-Vista" system back at 1999, but since it's bloody useless, annoying, and no one likes it, it may have been abandoned. This video, however, is not a fake. It was released by Microsoft team back in that time.
This Task Gallery reminds me of the Windows ME 3D Maze screensaver. The only difference is that it is interactive, but because it is a "maze", this "product" would be very hard for me to use and understand. I like my world simple, not huge, fancy, and confusing.
it looks like a timesucking way of switching appllicatios, this project is moneysucking, and it brings us only further away from working fast with technology.
Compare it to Macs OSX Leopard, With the interactive corners you can switch so fast and accurate from task to task.
Eversince I switched to Apples finest product I became very sceptic about windows vista, windows vienna and windows home server
fffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyoooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu leigo man
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
this using style seems more difficult than classical "desktop" style we're using now. also, why do we need an improvment like that? windows has more important problems which have not solved yet. first, we want to see a useful windows without any technical problem. later, it can be better to see a windows improved as graphical and visual effects. in addition,i'm not sure but i remember that i've used a software like that...
this is stupid... jus use the interface that linux uses... i love the way it is... this is jus dumb.. why don't you listen to the users instead of your engeneers who are locked up in bill's basement and look at what we want!!! maybe if u give us what we want we might buy your things. untill then i'll stick to the fully user customized ubuntu linux... and apple is great too dont think i left you out:)
Who wants to use that shit let me tell you someting about 80% of people do not even know what a hard drive is let alone how to use even the easyist windows your making things worse!
Wtf? cheap way of incorporating whats already being used in Linux, if anyone needs this much organization in the first place, they should come to linux. Much more organized and easier to work with and understand... rather than this crappy 3d design they got going..
if they are actually thinking of doing this in the next windows, then i'm sticking to XP forever... it's way too complex... an experienced user needs something that is quick, easy to use... i'm not going to look for my task on a virtual wall... that's just stupid, time consuming and would consume all the computer's resources... interesting idea for 2 year olds though (no offense) ...
While task-differentiation is something I look forward to, it's plain to see that this is clearly not a step in the right direction. As said earlier, a 3D rendering of this sort of environment would consume vast resources, and would be way too time consuming. What we need is an updated version of Spaces.. and Mac's Spaces was stolen from Linux and rebadged anyway.
omg, ppl multiple desktops have been used for this for so long, remember the 3d developers with multiple screen!!! That was what they used! Multiple desktops!
Oh, dear God, no! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Has anyone ever heard of something called STACKS?! LOL "in this friendly environment?" NO! There is not a SINGLE human being that would be willing to spend the TIME to use this.
This is sweet, don't get me wrong. But I use Maya and using a CRTL ALT button combo is faster to memorize than this!!! You can tell techies came up with this though. It IS original. They obviously didn't steal it.
Even though I know this is not about hte new windows, this was the worst idea to come up with a task manager... You're wasting time switching things around in 3d space instead of having it appear in a general UI.
This is horrible, I would rather stay with XP or switch to some generic opperating system. I hope that Microsoft looks at these comments before commiting themselves to this misadventure.
this is microsoft reasearch's task gallery. a piece of research, not a feature for later versions. It was given away as a free download for windows 98/2000/Me/XP. However, it it was and is not blackcomb/vienna
Notice the copyright, 1999. Vienna, Blackcomb, or Windows 7, whatever you want to call it, has NOT been in development for that long. This is an old idea/video that is trying to be petaled as new, disregard it entirely.
It doesn't look productive. It may be natural to walk around an environment as a human, but when you use a computer such things just a waste of time. When people use computers they have to communicate with them using methods that may seem unorthodox compared to their usual interactions. Keyboards, mice, screens, windows, taskbars, command line, et cetera.
Besides, the problem this is trying to address has already been solved, it is called virtual desktops.
Ouah ! How great !!... For people who like to waste five minuts each time they want to swich application !
Well, the technical performance is good, but I even don't find it beautiful.
Those who want to eycandy their computers, should better install Compiz-fusion and enjoy his cube, his soft windows, and its rainy desktop. It at least doesn't cost 400 € ! lol
haha how much do you want to bet that Apple will steal this and use it in their next OS version - They will probably call it "itask" or something original like that... LOL
actually it RAN amazingly fast. but what kept slowing me down was all this security stuff (one won't need if he doesn't click the "enter" buttons of cheap porn sites). the bare system performance was (aero and fade/roll/blink effects disabled) about 85% of my XP system.
what pissed me off most was that the steinberg ASIO drivers for my soundcard didn't work, so is sticked with XP
oh damn, sorry wrong tab :D. i didn't say vista runs slower, i said it appears to be sower, especially if you run it on older hardware. and some new rules and programs suck. oh and: i don't want to turn anything OFF. this is stupid. you get an OS and you have to turn hlaf of the stuff (aero, visual close/minimize effects, defender, UAC, filesharing...) OFF to get it running at optimal performance and least time to click "skip/ignore/allow/bullshit" buttons
mine runs faster than anything else. i bought my new comp a year ago and it runs damn fast. loading time is about 1min max. and everything runs fast. i open like 50 windows at once and it keeps running same speed as i have one window open.
hmm, i bought my laptop almost 4 years ago. and though i know that the normal lifespan for this electrowaste is about two and a half year i don'T want to buy a new PC only because the software get's new features i don't notice or need but which need faster hardware. my money flows to guitars... they don't get "slower" and they don't lose, but gain value. i don't wanna be part of the digital industry, buying products redestined to end up in a giant trashcan.
i'm talking of just simple KDE 3.7, nothing special on a 2004 machine, wich somewhat equal looks to xp. and the performance is worlds apart. i'm a big linux fan, because i like a lot of stuff about it. but my windows boots 10 times as fast, shuts down 10 times as fast and takes 10 times as many applications opened at the same time. not to speak of the (already mentioned) multimedia and studio functionality, cuz this is something, that will only work if someone start defining a STANDART.
obviously fake, it looks old as hell. and who really has 30 windows up at one time? and that way looks even harder then just looking down at your windows. Microsoft wouldnt use this
LOL, somebody got owned. Honestly if windows does this I'll be pissed. I'd SOOOO much rather they just flat out copy Linux and pretend like they didn't then try and FAIL at making something better.
Windows Vista = Mac OS X (aqua=aero, design, 3D engine) + Linux (safety, UAC, kernel type, user privileges etc.) + *BSD (network services) + Windows compatibility:D
I do really like Vista, besides, vista is very popular OS, I am using only two systems: Vista and Mac OS 10.5, and in my opinion Vista is well done; great job of MS's programmers.
vista might look cute, but the performance you can get out of it sucks. aero takes up the T&L unit of your graphics card and has to be switched off for 3D applications (on slower machines you can actully SEE this happen). UAC takes half of your time to start "unapproved" sowftware. the ne replace system (only 10 per copy-batch) sucks ass. i HATE vista, xp wasn'T good, but at least it didn'T ask me stupid questions.
I think Windows Vienna will look like Vista Basic minus the backward compatibility, that's all... With of course a more cleaner interface. I think this is just another app for windows as an optional feature and even MAYBE the very first initial idea behind Windows' Flip 3D because like they said, they're finding a way to make tasking more user-friendly and that's what Windows Flip 3D does... so I'd say the idea in this video had been thrown out of the window and replaced by Flip 3D ;-)
This is the ugliest windows user interface ever!!! I'd rather look at Windows 95 or 97! I'd expect something even more "user-centric" interface but this looks like a "kiddy-centric" interface! What has windows become??? A game?! If they stick to this they would lose everything! Come on! At least have a glass window or some fading... the sliding sucks...
Does work in progress ring a bell. It's a work a work in progress and not the final product. I mean thats not even a beta. We all know it looks horribly bad but they're still working what it needs to do. Right now the look of the interface would be the last thing they would be thinking about. That comes later.
They already did. The future windows comes with a core that only needs 40mb of ram and 20mb of hard drive space. They're focus is on user-centric technologies and technology powered by live services.

oh damn, sorry wrong tab :D. i didn't say vista runs slower, i said it appears to be sower, especially if you run it on older hardware. and some new rules and programs suck. oh and: i don't want to turn anything OFF. this is stupid. you get an OS and you have to turn hlaf of the stuff (aero, visual close/minimize effects, defender, UAC, filesharing...) OFF to get it running at optimal performance and least time to click "skip/ignore/allow/bullshit" buttons

mine runs faster than anything else. i bought my new comp a year ago and it runs damn fast. loading time is about 1min max. and everything runs fast. i open like 50 windows at once and it keeps running same speed as i have one window open.

hmm, i bought my laptop almost 4 years ago. and though i know that the normal lifespan for this electrowaste is about two and a half year i don'T want to buy a new PC only because the software get's new features i don't notice or need but which need faster hardware. my money flows to guitars... they don't get "slower" and they don't lose, but gain value. i don't wanna be part of the digital industry, buying products redestined to end up in a giant trashcan.

i'm talking of just simple KDE 3.7, nothing special on a 2004 machine, wich somewhat equal looks to xp. and the performance is worlds apart. i'm a big linux fan, because i like a lot of stuff about it. but my windows boots 10 times as fast, shuts down 10 times as fast and takes 10 times as many applications opened at the same time. not to speak of the (already mentioned) multimedia and studio functionality, cuz this is something, that will only work if someone start defining a STANDART.

f'ckU emirily!
both of them are graphic engines, aero is 3D...

Look promising but I can't imagine how much RAM will take this.
costescuandrei1975 4 years ago
obviously fake, it looks old as hell. and who really has 30 windows up at one time? and that way looks even harder then just looking down at your windows. Microsoft wouldnt use this

For everyone, this was a (failed?) attempt at a 3D desktop product back for WIndows 2000/Me. (Think 1999-2001)

Anyone realize that this is a rip-off of "Spaces" in OSX?

Anyone realize that Spaces is a rip-off of Vritual Desktops in Unix for 20 years?

LOL, somebody got owned. Honestly if windows does this I'll be pissed. I'd SOOOO much rather they just flat out copy Linux and pretend like they didn't then try and FAIL at making something better.

Windows Vista = Mac OS X (aqua=aero, design, 3D engine) + Linux (safety, UAC, kernel type, user privileges etc.) + *BSD (network services) + Windows compatibility:D
indiced 4 years ago
So, you like vista?
cyncmaster150 4 years ago
I do really like Vista, besides, vista is very popular OS, I am using only two systems: Vista and Mac OS 10.5, and in my opinion Vista is well done; great job of MS's programmers.
This is my opinion.
indiced 4 years ago
vista might look cute, but the performance you can get out of it sucks. aero takes up the T&L unit of your graphics card and has to be switched off for 3D applications (on slower machines you can actully SEE this happen). UAC takes half of your time to start "unapproved" sowftware. the ne replace system (only 10 per copy-batch) sucks ass. i HATE vista, xp wasn'T good, but at least it didn'T ask me stupid questions.

This Is Stupid. I swear to god, im switching to mac.

This video is from year 2000...
It is MS's 3D Desktop app on Windows 2k ;-)

This is the ugliest windows user interface ever!!! I'd rather look at Windows 95 or 97! I'd expect something even more "user-centric" interface but this looks like a "kiddy-centric" interface! What has windows become??? A game?! If they stick to this they would lose everything! Come on! At least have a glass window or some fading... the sliding sucks...
orien2v2 4 years ago
Does work in progress ring a bell. It's a work a work in progress and not the final product. I mean thats not even a beta. We all know it looks horribly bad but they're still working what it needs to do. Right now the look of the interface would be the last thing they would be thinking about. That comes later.

Lol i don't get it, too
creating a museum instead of a desktop? WTF?!
phonx296 4 years ago
Microsoft has to stop focusing and useless shit like this and ans start focusing on performance issues.
intOwnSvoid 4 years ago
They already did. The future windows comes with a core that only needs 40mb of ram and 20mb of hard drive space. They're focus is on user-centric technologies and technology powered by live services.
elegadom2 4 years ago
Microsoft finally realized Vista Sucks Ass that's why they changed the release date of Vienna from 2012 to 2009...
Microsoft this time do it better.

gud idea for a busy person, bu i dont think it would be gud for a student
