eartha was an amazing woman. stuggles and hardship did not hold her back...she did not believe in barriers...and she proved it...she was and is still an amazing woman
Eartha Kitt is one of the reasons I was inspired to get involved in theater. My introduction to her was through "The Emperor's New Groove" where she voiced Yzma, and I later discovered the dozens of other wonderful work she's done and read her autobiographies and found her to be a truly fascinating, amazing woman. I even wrote to her and she was gracious enough to send a reply. I will always have a great respect for her. RIP, Eartha. We love you.
Incredible beauty, elegance, dignity and brains. She stood up for what she believed in. She was a real inspiration, never "just" a sex symbol. Eartha Kitt was so loved in Europe, but I am glad she got to go home. Rest in Peace Ms Kitt.
Her speaking voice sounds incredibly young. It didn't get deeper the way most other singers do as they age. I saw her perform live in the nineties and her singing voice hadn't aged either, it was really stunning and strong. She had good genes.
Perhaps, in 2008, at the height of her appearances in the media and to the world, her soul was finally accepted and was ready to leave this place. As sad as that sounds, I really hope it is true and I really hope that she finally felt loved and accepted. It always shook me, every past interview, when she cried. I love you Eartha and I will always accept you <3
thats a good comment that person made she died shortly after this and was making alllllot of appearences everywhere and never looked or sounded ill i wonder if she knew too
This speech captures Eartha at her most wittiest, insightful and profound. I would love to see the rest of it. Its remarkable she died within a couple of months after receiving her award, because she looks healthy and radiant and her delivery is clear and focused. She was also appearing at the Carlyle Hotel at the time. I wonder if she knew she was suffering from terminal colon cancer?
wow so regal, she is one of the first generation ledgends to inspire the likes of Aretha tina and so much more, they sure broke the mould when they made her, at 81 she will has that snap fire cracker personality. R.I.P. xxxxxxx
This is SO GOOD! See what "freedom of speech" will get you? A WELL DESERVED honor (and LONG overdue) and this was months before she died.
I have said this many times B4, but I HATE racism, but I am a racist. Assholes of all colors are a race unto themselves, and I am racist against assholes. Apparently LBJ fit into that race when he banned the Divine Ms. Kitt. Rest in peace Eartha. You left us all the lesson of staying true to ourselves.
There are many great entertainers..but there is only 1 Eartha Kitt...Thank you for this great Video...I hope the younger generation will get to know of her...She is one of America's greatest Treasure's.....
These are the GREAT entertainers...there isnt ONE SINGLE PERFORMER out here today who should ever think about being catagorized in the same column as an Eartha Kitt..a Michael Jackson...a Sammy Davis Jr...a Diahann Carroll...or a Nancy Wilson. These folks are UNTOUCHABLE. This woman ROCKS. God rest her awesome soul.
What an inspiration to the world. My God how can anyone ever turn her away. You Eartha are a legend. Peace from all your fans in New York City.... This brought tears to my eyes..
She was definitely ONE OF A KIND...There are people who are just carbon copies of other people...Not Eartha, she was an original to the core...Rest peacefully Miss Kitt.
It is SUCH a shame that she lost a decade of her career in America, for one simple opinion. I mean, for Christ's sake, she was practically banished, and on the freakin' CIA list...
she is bi racial and her fathers genes were stronger than her mothers......google david bowie and iman they have a daughter together but as dark skinned as iman is, their daughter took after david and looks white......it happens
