it was amazing when the Vulcan at the Sunderland Air Museam ended up nose end up almost as if it had frozen still as it was taking off. it ended up like this because of the weight of the snow on the wings!! i was working night shift near by when it happened, its nose just slowly started to point skywards
Lucky, lucky pilots that get to keep this bird flying! I'm sure there's no shortage of past Vulcan pilots that want to be the ones! What an opportunity!
wow fantastic have been in the cockpit of XH558 back in 1993 at Waddington prior to her leaving RAF service had the good luck that she was on a currency flight the next day and was in one of the 3 seats on the lower level as she was towed out to the dispersal, its nice to actually see what its like in the cockpit when she is in flight
Amazing vid thanks. Couldn't disagree more with tradbgon. Its extremely important that aircraft like this remain flying and the cost is justified in order to display an important reminder of the cold war period. Vulcan was retired more due to changes in RAF bombing tactics. The increased use of cruise missiles and the use of low level fast attack aircraft made the old high level large bomber redundant. And the end of the cold war helped since the main use was uk's nuclear response.
@eddiefaero absolutely mate im in the army i give £50 a month without fail to the vulcan society i love this plane the look, the reputation and....THE NOISE..its amazing!!

Nice! But...at what cost? Is it worth TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY to fly it? Vulcan Operating Co told Lottery that airshow fees would pay all costs for sustained operations. Now, we're finding out that's not true. Sorry, guys, but TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY was never gonna come from airshow fees. A blind man couldda seen that before you started. I seem to recall the RAF retired it because, aside from being old, it was also EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE. VulcantotheHANGAR!
Jesus would you shut the hell up, go and moan to sombody who gives a damn, everybody is here to watch this magnificent aircraft, go and write a letter to the daily mail!
@tradbgon So what if it costs 2 mil a year? the vulcan is a Great British Landmark, and im sure more people will disagree with you rather then agree...
@tradbgon You are a Class 1 Knob Head. When we have government frittering away £650 Million in "Aid" to nuclear armed pakistan and countless billions to other countries then as far as asking the lottery commission for TWO MEASLY million quid is concerned, its certainly justified!! Maybe if they offered rides to fee paying passengers during these flights (there'd be no shortage of takers) then it could cover itself but the elf-n-safety brigade at CAA obviously take a dim view to things like that.
Holy cow!! What great footage!! Thanks for posting this.

I worked at RIAT 2009 in the air cadets, i remember how everyone would stop what there doing to watch the vulcan come in... Great aircraft though :D

Unless you're helping to foot the bill (which I am many others are) then I suggest you shut up.
This beats the cr*p out of almost anything that has been resurrected in UK since 1960 and only a fool would deny it.
