I got an L-1 in spring 1962 and stripped the top so it would look more like the Martins the Kingston Trio and Brothers Four played. I paid $38 for mine at a pawn shop. It originally sold for $37.50. My brother took it to a party while I was in the Army in 1967 and some mean drunk smashed it against a wall. I'm not sure if he was playing "I Gave My Love a Cherry" (cf "Animal House").
@MegalopolisFilms I'll always be sorry about that. What an absolute crime that was. One day I want to find a replacement-- I did see one at Willie's a few years ago.... for $800. I'll keep looking.
@26095 Naw -- Time heals all wounds. I've got too many guitars now. But if I get ambitious, I'll post a sound recording of our group circa 1963 with still photos that include the guitar along with my lame strumming and picking.
That song is a variation of Libba Cotton's Wilson Rag, if I'm not mistaken..it's just something I picked up by ear thirty years ago and is low risk to play in front of the camera ;-)
I grew up listening to my dad playing the hell out of an L-00. I think they sound better when they're strung with flat-wound strings. My dad always used Black Diamond flat-wounds and his tone was much richer and more mellow than any L-0/ L-00/L-1 I've heard on YouTube.
The RJ L-1 Gibson is totally different guitar than these 30's L-00, L-0 or L-1's .. the one in the video could be called an L-0 because of the back binding, but, the 30's L's were structurally all the same guitars .. I should have put L-0 in the title..thanks for viewing..tw

@JackWhiteIII
That's "definitely" NOT a L-00.
It's a L-0.
Back is bound.
