  • Grigory Zhislin is a genious, incredible violinist, violist and teacher! If anybody has more live recordings of him, please post it here!! Thanks.

  • Unfortunately the only YouTube video of this great violinist and violist - so far!!!

    I hope for more!

  • @geigenmarie I hope so, too. Thanks for the info on the Brahms.

  • I heard Zhislin accompanied by Frieda Bauer back in about '87. In fact I got to turn Ms. Bauer's pages during the concert.

They were great then, and Mr. Zhislin still has it, obviously.

  • @ChollieD Yes, Frieda Bauer, who used to be David Oistrakh's accompanist, was Zhislin's accompanist for a very long time. Their recording of the Brahms sonatas is one of the best I've ever heard, and I've heard them all. I actually prefer Zhislin's recording over the others. He's also a great viola player, of course. Penderecki f.e. dedicated his Cadenza for viola solo to him. And he's an eminent teacher, too, many of his violin students are internationally known soloists.

  • @violinovic Oh I need to hear that! Any hints on how to find their Brahms sonatas? Label info, recording date, anything would be terrific.

    Thanks in advance!

  • @ChollieD The label is Dante, 1998, piano Frieda Bauer. You will find the Brahms on Amazon under his name. I got this CD 1998 as a birthday present from G.Zhislin, when I was studying with him, and love it very much! I never heard such a sensual, tender, passionate G major Sonata!!! There is also a CD at the same label of Paganini 24 Caprices. But there he was not at his best IMHO, also here with Handel. He could play much better! I also highly recommend his Penderecki Viola Concerto recording!

  • A special thanks to Mr. Grigori Zhislin that has shaped my violin technique when I studied with him in 1984. Since then it has always set an example for me. Hello Maestro

  • grigori zhislin is an incredible violinist. he would have deserved a much bigger career than the one he had.

  • The violinst has not the class that the viola player has.

  • You are right. Viola player - Grigori Zhislin (father of Yuri Zhislin) is one of the best soviet violinists, though he is not very famous. I heard him playing violin concert of Brahms in Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory - it was incredible performance, even though his violin was not one of the best.

  • Love the changed viola chords in the beggining. Beautiful performance.
