Just pure power! This much noise and the Space Shuttle isn't the most powerful vehicle ever flown by the U.S. Just imagine what a Saturn V launch would be like at this rage...
i've seen this live before, but its only because i live in Orlando, only about 45 minutes away from Cape Canaveral. its the most amazing thing i've ever seen. i was lucky enough to witness the last night launch ever. it was about midnight, and when that thing went up, it was like a sun, rising in the sky. it was so powerful and beautiful. i will never forget
Actually more like 1,500-1,800 feet another one says 600 yards, so go figure the math...at least a 1 second sound delay and sound is 1,100 feet per second.
I would think that, given the situation (space shuttle lift-off), any type of mic would have clipped out. Still, i bet it's as great as any rock concert to sit where the camera was

What microphone/recorder was used? Sounds totally clipped out. Great shot though.. What I wouldn't give to sit in that spot!
