The nut on my Kala Concert Ukulele seems a bit high, no matter how lightly I hold the strings in the first fret it goes sharp. Is it an easy job to remove the nut a shave it down a little. I think it's just stretching the strings as the action is quite high.
Regarding friction tuners: in my opinion good friction tuners like gotoh deluxe or grovers work very smooth and precise if they're adjusted correctly. I've also never had problems with them not holding the tuning. I'd choose good friction tuners over geared ones any time. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. Cheap friction tuners can be a real annoyance, however...
Love your review jhgarl35. Usually, other people reviews just include a short and quick introduction then start playing the instruments immediately. You actually get to know your instrument first, took your time introducing and telling us what you like and don't like about the physical side of the instrument before you start playing. Thanks for sharing this infor with us.
@jpablosnm If by kanile you mean Kanile'a (kanilea) then kanilea is, by miles, better than the other three you mentioned.Kanile'a are high end ukulele's. The price, however, does reflect that fact.
i've always wondered, you know how they call a ukulele a uke, how do you pronounce UKE? like.. "you-key"? or just "you'k"? hmmmm and will i find this at guitar center?
oh, i still play the uke, just this one doesn't get played as much as my ohana. I was thinking that maybe I need to change the strings on it to make it sound better. Not sure though.
i must admit, don't play this as much as I thought. Maybe it's the strings. I'm having trouble getting used to the concert size. Pretty uke though. MGM is the best. I had a really good experience. thanks for watching...
Thanks for this review! The Aquilas with the Cedar top sounds right sharp. I got a new Kala acacia, and obviously Kala's are more than worth their money. Have fun with your new uke!

What is best brand of ukuleles, mahalo, kala,Kanile or lanikai?"
jpablosnm 6 months ago
@jpablosnm out of those 4 I'd say Kala by far. Lanikai is the next best. Mahalo not so good...

I love MGM. I just added MGM to Yelp so in a few days you can search and add your review to "Musicmanmic's Guitars and Ukulele" spread the word!!
