  • Although she kept a low profile after the war, toward the end of her life she was interviewed and photographed several times in the 1970s by US photo-journalist Ron Laytner. At the end of her last interview she told Laytner:

And what have we now in Germany? A land of bankers and car-makers. Even our great army has gone soft. Soldiers wear beards and question orders. I am not ashamed to say I believed in National Socialism".

  • Nonsense.

Only in the Third Reich, woman saw true equality. They were taught the, of course, natural differences between males and females (unlike in liberal secular countries), but at the same time, had all the opportunities they wanted. Yes, Hanna Reitsch was the TRUE standard barer for women during WW2. She didn't fly "because more women were needed", but because she had a God given talent. Btw, she flew a helicopter, a rocket plane, AND a jet fighter.

  • I, too am a vet (one of the fewer, the prouder...woman Marine) and am very happy to see the WASP get honored like this after all these years.

  • Congrats to these great veterans.

I am a veteran (male, usmc ..in case it matters)...

and my hat goes off to them (and all other veterans). These woman were / are awesome. :)

I am sorry it took so long for these veterans to get their 'day in the sun'.
