That's not entirely true. I live in New Jersey USA (which isn't an island) and this place is loaded with "paranormal sightings." Enough weird stuff for books and sites dedicated just to this place. Search for Weird New Jersey and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm so accustomed to NJ weirdness that stories of yokai and wights seam kinda normal to me.

I Live in Illinois... and I swear to God, my house is haunted. I sometimes hear unknown voices, really breathy, whispers and I often see apparitions. If I had schizophrenia, I would have experienced shit like this almost every day.. but I don't.

Other than that, I think by what that guy meant is something like this

One of the reasons Japan may be so haunted, is because supposedly the suicide rate is so high. So many restless spirits seeking help...

I had some interesting hauntings where I had lived years ago. It does feel like some paranoid delusion at times. My present residence doesn't hold anything unusual, just noise from neighbors.

My comment before was in response to what is said about Islands being the most haunted.

As for suicide, that is tied to so many different stories of hauntings from all over. I find it more fascinating than scary. Then again, I'm not exactly normal myself.

@XxXSammieXxX07 That isn't true. I don't know where you heard that, except for from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which is the only example I can cite. I have never heard that before in regards to spirits, other than the aforementioned story. In fact, sightings and hauntings are often more prevalent near running water. That isn't to say that they don't occur elsewhere, but they tend to be more noticed when running water is involved. Maybe it's something to do with the ambient energy produced...
