well, i really want some budgies, ive done TONS of research on them, found a perfect cage and everything, but now suddenly my parents have said no, because you can get diseases from their droppings and in their opinion you shouldnt keep birds in cages, i've tried telling them that the disease is EXTREMELEY rare and that i would give my budgies exercise out of their cage, but they just wont listen :(
o wow i have a male budgie and he looks just like that!! only the tail is a really dark blue and the cere is a little brighter on yours.haha and thats wut mine does i also have a green female budgie and whenever i take 1 out i HAVE to take out the other otherwise they will scream to each other even if im all the way downstairs when the cage is upstairs and the door is closed xxD
My Laker wouldn't sit on my finger at all at first. I got a wooden spoon & held the round end. He was happy to step up onto that as it was just like a perch. My new Budgie is the same - he'll only step-up at bedtime so I've started training him to step up onto the perch/spoon.
Be patient. They are prey animals & it takes lots of trust & courage for them to do it.
If you have not given up on your budgie in the last four months or resorted to towelling & traumatizing him into submission gentle teaching may help:Use a treat he likes, millet?,15 minute sessions where you speak quietly and softly in a chair next to the cage and try to feed him, cage door open so he can escape if threatened, when he accepts your food move to step-up command where he doesn't get the treat unless he flys to your finger. Worked with my budgie when he was five, takes patience.
To be honest I never seen one that was really friendly on their OWN most all ones look abit forced to me to be friendly to their human owners as far as parakeets go.
I mean lets be real if they had a choice to stay or fly away they would fly away.
I let mine do what he wishes with out forcing myself on him and he seems very happy that way to have his own space. After all he likes being a bird not a human. lol
I agree - I let mine do what they want most of the time & they can be real pests when I work. Laker has now passed away but I still enjoy him through the videos. He came to us through a shelter & was pretty tame on his own terms.
Sorry to hear he passed. I watch these videos because I try to inrich my birds life and he did talk talk back to your bird so in away your bird lives on. lol
Thanks - He was great. I'm so pleased he is helping you. Laker loved to interact with the Utube Budgies. Each Budgie is a bit different but they all are social.
@guitarplayerforu Hi - we only had him 2 years. We got him from a shelter - he'd been there a year at least. He was found outside, adopted out & returned. No real idea as to how old. A friend of mine lost her Budgie after 5 years and the Vet said he had a virus common to Budgies - especially to show/English and she had rescued one of those a few years ago. It was like Laker's symptoms. Perhaps his freedom came at a high cost. The virus leads to complications - tumors, organ failure.
I wonder if it only changes when they are older.Mickey's tail ha molted a # of times and hasn't changed yet.The only thing that happens is when he is wet his color changes from blue to blue green not his tale and in the sun he has a nice metallic color going on very pretty (earodised )I don't know how to spell that one lol
