I remember every Saturday going into the town through the old army check point at castle street then round to Mickeys roundabout i think Belfast should have something to remember Mickey as most of us at one stage where on the roundabout.
Saw Banbrack Live at a civil service union conferebce in 1985. I was made in Africa My dad from Clogher Valley and my mam from Newry and it delighted me . Had lost my darling parents in a car accident on Africa but I was HOME,safe and sound to the very best folk on this earth. If no one has ever visited Ni you want to get yout skates on, beautiful people. Love you all so much
lol, brilliant,if you think mickey was ecentric you should look up buck alec, that header had a lion with no teeth.apparently he pulled all its teeth out.now ask yourself what kinda nutcase pulls a lions teeth out, then danders round belfast with it...
to all those who are saying he beat his horses he didn't his horses died years ago, so stop trying to tarnish a good mans name his roundabout is now in the ulster folk museum of transport
@mzsteffii92 .Wendy Austin was talking about MMs horse on BBC Radio Ulster about a year ago, and the horse is alive and well, and living at a retirement home for working horses.
Found this site while browsing. This song brought tears to my eyes. I left Belfast in 1972 and have lived in Scotland since. I can remember well being on Mickeys roundabout. Thanks Seamus for writing this wonderful song.
remember mickey as a kid on the fall's,knew his sister ,she owned a rag store, alway's felt safe on mickeys roundabout knowing he was fully insured lol,rip mickey
I still have the 6" LP that it first came out on and I remember taking a ride on the roundabout. Listening to this reminds me of happy times I spent with my Dad before he was murdered during The Troubles
Alec Quinn has just recorded a CD which includes a new version of 'Belfast' which he wrote 25 years ago. The CD is to support a children's charity and I play Bass Guitar on the CD.
love it!!..the wee car i was in had a pram wheel for a steering wheel!..i used to give him a bag of rags, and sometimes he would blow up a balloon for you!..god bless you Micky.
I remember being on that as a kid (when my wee mammy used to take me to town on a Saturday) and it's exactly as I remember, right outside the Burton building on High Street, later became woolies (Woolworths). Oh, those were the days, happy days :)
i remamber micky growing up on the falls,im glad he was fully insured in case of an accident lol,if you fell off they threw you back on again, bleeding and all,his sister owned a rag store too.
The horse that pulled the roundabout is strongly suspected to be the one at Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary and it extremely skinny he was found at hyde park in Mallusk it would sicken you to look at what he's like now
This was the highlight of a kids week in West Belfast long ago.............No playstations then lol..............And the kids were happier then than they are now! That's a fact!
LOL thanks Decky...and the memories come flooding back. That could be me sitting on the back of that feckin thing squeling to my ma to bring me round to leisureworld. Prompted me to look up some other Belfast characters there, buck alec to name one.
