Yet when they did they opted for buying used aircraft at exorbitant prices thanks to corrupt middleman “aghazadeha” connected to the regime hierarchy. In 1995 with increased air travel demands and high fuel charges the authorities finally decided to buy aircraft. Guess what they opted to pay billions of dollars to start a manufacturing plant for Antonov 140. Sixteen years later we can the factory in Esfahan can only manage to produce 4 aircraft per year!!!!

Instead of buying new aircrafts from Russia, Ukraine, China & Brazil, the managers of Iranian aviation initially chose to wet lease used aircraft from Russian and the Ukraine. There is just no systems or protocols in place in Iran. It is a pretty unorganized and disordered country that I sometimes wonder how frustrated the Iranian people get on a daily basis.
