Strauss' works were not originally played by large philharmonic orchestras like we are used to, but by a smaller orchestra which he led from the position of 1st violin, just as Professor Zwölfer does. In that sense, this might be one of the most old fashioned renditions of Unter Donner und Blitz you will ever hear. If you are ever in Vienna, check out the Salonorchester Alt Wien performances at the Kursalon. You will find it very worthwhile.
