Oh hey, one more thing, what tripod are you using? I am looking for a new one and yours looks pretty solid, can the legs go all the way down to the ground so you can get low angles?
@PhotoExtremist Yea, it's a great tripod. Manfrotto 055XPROB / 496 RC2 Ball head. I would highly recommend it. t's does go all the way to the ground. I have a video on it if you want to see it.
Sweet! I wanna try this. One question though, it looks like there are tiny bits of dust. Is that because the glass was kinda worn, or were those tiny bubbles or....?
@PhotoExtremist It was a new dish. I had just purchased it. Some dust must have fallen into the dish. I was next to a heater vent. I edited out some of them. I need to try it again. You need to let the oil settle. Don't "whip" it like I did. I will try it again and post some results. MUCH better images can be taken doing this. Mine were a first try and not so good. They were cool but I (and you) can do a lot better. Give it a try. Different oils will be better too.
wow they look really cool, like an they were made on the computer! did u have to do much editing on them ? if so what did u do (bring out the greens or yellows)?
@thekoolaidhunter Honestly, I shot these in RAW + JPG and did bump up the contrast, but this is about how they appeared right out of the camera. Just contrast and a little white balance here and there. That's about it. It's amazing what kind of color you can get doing this. I wish I had tried other things but it's so easy to set up I will do it again when I get an hour.
Thank you for sharing your setup - also LOVE the awesome results!

Remember watching a vid by Bryan Peterson doing something similar a few years ago. Such a cool effect and so simple to do.
Go try it today.
