A lot of good rockers got caught up in the 80's pop synth, Kenny G sounding sax stuff. There is a chours part around 2:40 that sounds like a Huey Lewis rip off. Thank God David did not spent much time getting side tracked with this type of commercial stuff. That being said, I kinda like the song.
Oh my sweet Jesus! Sax and sax players are soooo anoying! It spoiled the best parts of the song. And what's with David's voice? Sounds like he had been chain smoking and boozing all night long.
If David Gilmour sounded tired, this performance was at the end of the European leg of the About Face tour (which ended at the end of April, 1984) so he was tired. He would have some time off before he resumed the tour in the United States where it did better than it did in Europe financially (he also added "Money" to the setlist which I might put up on here).
The band David Gilmour had here wasn't bad. The drummer Chris Slade would go on to play with Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers in The Firm and AC/DC. The second guitarist is Mick Ralphs of Bad Company. The bass player is Mickey Feat (worked with Fastway and Van Morrison). Saxman was Raphael Ravenscroft (famed for his sax solo on Gerry Raffery's Baker Street). Keyboards was Uriah Heep member Gregg Dechert and the percussionist was Jodi Linscott (famed for work with Pete Townshend and The Who)
Thank you so much. Do happen to have Near the End? I don't know about you but I'm not so crazy about David's backing band here, but David still sounds great.
I have the vhs to this concert, but this song and others is not on it. I wish David Gilmour would put the 1984 the whole hammersmith Odeon concert, along with the "blue light" and "all lovers are deranged' videos, and the beyond the floyd special onto DVD. This is the best concert that he has performed since the original pink floyd broke up.

I agree about the band. I'm trying to find Near The End.

@zdlvv6 I have always loved this backing since I got the VHS to this concert in 1991.
