Have you any idea as to how old the gramophone is? I understand that they manufactured this particular model until 1961, and this does look like a late one
I was hoping it would be "Cry," a big hit of the 50's. That record player is somewhat older than that. Johnnie Ray was a big star in the 1950's. Of course, in that time period, Frankie Laine was even bigger than Sinatra. The 50's were a little backward music-wise!

Why play a 78 this late on a machine that
was obviously designed for earlier records
that were more compatible with acoustic
reproducers. 78's after 1950 were more recorded
with electric pickups in mind, and these later
78s sound strident on such machines and can
wear out more quickly on them. GEOFF0906, did
you ever really find out when production of this]
model ceased?. I have this model I think it is HMV 102

Interesting, but why play such a late 78 on a machine
obviously designed for earlier 78's which were
equalized more to accomodate acoustic pickups
78's this late were more recorded with electrical
pickups in mind and tend to sound strident on
acoustic reproducers. I have this same model
myself, and GEOFF0906, did you ever really find
out when procuction of this model ceased? Thanks.

Can you film any other video of the same Gramophone playing any Tom Jones' disc?
W2QYVkz789 2 years ago
@W2QYVkz789 Tom Jones recorded after the 78 era,
unless one of his singles showed up in India, which
made 78's until at least 1966.

@dancebandleader True, but I seen 3 years ago a mechanical record player operating with a Tom Jones' single.
