@fistchips of you dont mind harder blues, try some of the Firebird with Bill Steer :) you should like it too...some concerts from tilburg or so...harmony to you
I got into DB and Trucks without even knowing their link to EC. Then I went and saw Clapton and both of them were in the band, playing Derek and the Dominos stuff. I was in heaven. Bramhall is so good, very orginal and true to himself.
You hear how JJ just shag drags the beat on that roll at 0:38 ?...just staggers behind the beat for a millisec within the roll no less...he's just incredible.
Mayer is trying so hard to be this guy..to be the guy EC basically canonized in his eyes(Doyle)...so since he can't even breathe his air..he steals his musicians. I realize the dollars were hung in front of JJ & righfully so dude has the right to earn it, he's my fav. drummer right now ever since Welcome...but JM is a thief. I guess we all are...just pisses me off. This is where JJ belongs, with our era's Jimi/EC.
yeah, and JM is definitely a solid gig. Look at Steve Jordan and Pino Pallidino. The thing about JM is that he really is an incredibly skilled musician. His bands are pro shit. He's also on and ego trip and is trying to cop off of Doyle and Kenny Wayne, the people responsible for keeping the roots of blues alive. I also want to punch him in the face for having the balls to paint his guitar like Hendrix. In his dreams....
The first couple of lines of that statement are very good points. But come on man, lets not throw a Kenny Wayne Sheppard into a category with a man who is a masterful songwriter. KWS doesn't even know what chords are in "Neon", "Why Did You Mess With Forever", and "Lifelines".
Send me your email man, I wanna send you some Doyle tracks that are gonna make you shit your pants.
@sleepwhenimdead Cmon leave the guy alone Mayer is an outstanding artist, easily one of the very bests of our generation, but comparing him with doyle brmhall is just a proof that you miss the point. Doyle Bramhall II is an amazing dude and an awesome guitarist but he's in a different kind of music, and I can tell ya that JJ Johnson rocks out like that with JM
Hendrix played a right hand Strat upside down, but reversed the nut & strung it LEFTY: thinnest gauge string on the bottom, unlike Doyle here & Albert King, who both turn(ed) a right hand guitar upside down but leave it stringed right handed, thus having to invent their own fingering style for chords...
hey, does anyone have any idea where I can get a copy of this show on dvd? Also, does anyone know what the deal is with the new crossroads dvd? i one version, but i've heard rumours that there is another one out, and there seem to be enough alternate videos on youtube to make up another whole dvd
Yeah JJ is amazing. Doyle always plays with top notch guys. The drummer for most of his first two CD's is Abe Laboriel jr. who is a God!! his last gig was with Paul McCartny. Just goes to show how truly talented Doyle is!!

Oh Fucking Yeah.
1. Doyle is pretty much the baddest lookin dude anywhere.
2. JJ Johnson never rockes out like that with Mayer. Ever.
3. Nobody in rock n' roll can sit on a riff like that and not over-play.

I deeply disagree with #2!!!

Check out Rory Gallagher. He's pretty tight as well. If you like Doyle, you're likely going to love Rory.

Lots of fuzz in bramhall's guitarplaying. What about the "welcome" album. All about the fuzz i think.

but the sound and tone of wat he has on his guitar sounds alot like the sound srv had
jimi had more of a more in ur face fuzz sound
srv is more of a thinner texture
