  • My favorite song by them. 4:43 is just heavenly. Opeth really can not be matched by anyone.

  • aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAwesome.

  • yeah!

  • hands down my favorite opeth song ever created ...

  • this song cured my AIDs

  • @frostcleave

That's great. But what about your AIDS?

  • una de las mejores bandas lamentablemente entraron en lo comercial

  • @hellhammer821pr su ultimo disco no es para nada comercial .. es casi experimental

  • Btw, 3:09 I bet that riff is somewhat similar to some of you guys.

  • @FirePower3006 What's it similar to? Please don't say Enter Sandman lol

  • @frindle8 Enter sandman =D lol. Still this song is better than any metallica song

  • @FirePower3006 Haha yes I agree. Opeth rulez

  • Currently my fav opeth song just brilliant.

  • insane album

  • MY FAVOURITE BAND... LOVE IT

  • The music is so amazing, if only the cover wasn't so ugly

  • fun fact: the vocalist from in flames was the co-producer.

  • Thanks. I really needed that.

  • upload in 720 for improved quality !

  • 7 people are deaf

  • The riff that kicks in at 7.37 is one of the best and most accomplished pieces of metal music ive ever heard

  • @1984NHS I agree.

  • @1984NHS

    Best riff ever

  • @1984NHS i love the riff at 4:43........its just beautiful to me. everything they do is though :)

  • @1984NHS Definitely one of the best chord progressions of all times.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Yes this is totally music. I think you're limiting yourself to the growls, cause this song offers an incredible ambiance and deep lyrics. There are many different metal genres, and they don't all sound like that. Get rid of this stereotype please xD

  • @Jinxkatrina8 To be honest, that's just pure ignorance, weather you know what you're talking about or not

  • @Jinxkatrina8 listen to Damnation lol.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Come on ... dont post shit like this on an opeth video, please..

  • @Jinxkatrina8 you should try listening to symphony x or something of that caliber....i mean if you even have an interest in metal, which if you found your way to this video i think you might :D

  • @Jinxkatrina8

Do you know how deep this song really is and the album that accompanies it? It doesn't have to sound like jonas brothers for it to be music.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 if your two year old nephew can play this, then he must be REALLY fucking good!

  • @Jinxkatrina8 well your brain activity is too limited to understand Opeth's comlpexity

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Very few drummers could play a song like this let alone your two year old nephew. Even if you don't like metal music which is fine its not for everyone, you don't have the first clue of how hard it is to play and sing this type of death metal/prog rock/folk combination that opeth has made their trademark sound

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Well, I hope you've got the courage tell us what kind of music you like, since you're so judgemental of ours.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Says the the person who listens to dubstep haha, That shit is just a bunch of noise made my machines not humans THIS is real fucking music.

  • @FirePower3006 props

  • @Jinxkatrina8 why did you post that comment on a MELODIC deathmetal video? lol. the only band you described in your comment was attack attack. hahaha!

  • @wilsob26 This is not MELODIC death metal its PROGRESSIVE death metal.

  • @FirePower3006 Who fuckin cares!!! Metal is Metal.

  • @Jinxkatrina8 Why the hell did you bother listening to the song and even search for the group?

  • @Jinxkatrina8 If you're one of those simple minded people that thinks reoccurring electronic beats or simple chorus-verse-chorus song progression is better, then this kind of music is obviously way over your head and I feel sorry for you. If you like progressive music though, you should stop putting one area of prog down just cause it's heavier than you like.

  • Was 2:09 an Inhale? sounds a lot like one.

  • @Spydrfish I would assume not, although it is possible.

  • If Johann Sebastion Bach or Mozart or Chopin were alive they would be Opeths biggest fans

  • What is opeths best album?

  • @theserialmessiah666

I would ahve to say "still life" and a substantial number of opeth fans willagree with me

  • @perderabo11 i know i do

  • @theserialmessiah666 Ghost Reveries. Or Blackwater Park. One of those two.

  • @theserialmessiah666 Blackwater Park in my opinion. But they're all kickass and very different and special. That's what makes Opeth so Badass.

  • @Rawfies

Oh my gosh the riff around 3:48 to 5:30 makes me respect European folk music from the Medieval times.

  • love it still like i did back then. what an amazing piece of art x x x

  • I really like Opeth, but I don't like the rough voice. Is anyone here fond of that voice? If so, why?

I always ignore it quite easily.

  • @freetrader0000 Are you kidding, there is no comparing Mikael Akerfeldt's voice

  • @Casowsky When he's doing the rough voice thing? Aside from that his voice is great IMO.

  • Easily their best album, every song has so many twists and turns it keeps you hooked through the entire thing.

  • @heylowdeux

Why don't you go fuck your mum? dickface.. if you don't like this music, go and hear some jonas brothas

  • @heylowdeux Sir, if I knew you.. I would eradicate all your family. But you.. You would be crucified and watch all your relatives die, then I would peel all the skin from you, and then I would torch you. Cheers, mate.

  • 3:48 is perfect.. Every good black metal band would want this riff. Everyone would want this riff.

  • this song is amazing :D im dont have any money to go and buy the CD's ( i actually cant find them) so i borrow CDs from my library ot listen to and this is the only CD that my library is missing >.> i wish they had it. :C but im addicted to this song now. :D

  • @heylowdeux go and listen to 50 cent fag

  • @heylowdeux There is an explanation for your comment. Either your father fucked you in the ass and busted his load in your mouth from age 3 to present, or.. your father's boyfriend fucked you in the ass and busted his load in your mouth 5 mins before you wrote this comment.

  • @heylowdeux And who the fuck are you again?

  • @heylowdeux your mom sucks my dick. seriously why do you comment on something if you dont like it? i could even understand critisizing a certain point that they find unappealing but your just some idiot throwing negativity around. fuck you

  • @heylowdeux go take this "shit" and shove it up your ass troll

  • how do I sart?

the openning is soooooooooooo fucking perfect... the constant 8th notes of the bass makes it orgasmic. the guitar is just as amazing, the vocals gives me chills... in a good way.

in the mid, the vocals being lyrical makes a great addition for a little while. Then the solo. fucking AMAZING. shit im running out of words to describe how awesome.

The transitions are what I think Opeth perfected with this song. how the continue the same melody but in a different skew everytime.

  • There's something in the vocals that just dominates me

  • OMG love this albumm <333

  • 1:36 they way he shouts is making me pee on my pants (:P)

  • 4:42 - 5:45 Absolutely epic. Musically captures the essence of the line "A threshold I have crossed before" in the context of the album's concept. The album itself, in my opinion, is Opeth's best. It is the most well-structured, most haunting, most emotional, and has the best concept.

  • the start of the song is - IN YOUR FACE - to all these moronic musical taste of masses we have now a days

  • Probably my favorite Opeth song.

There's something about the drum fills on this one, though, that makes this song special. Like how the fill on 2:22 gives way to such an epic riff.

IMO the best part is in the last verse.

    "And when the night came,

the forest folded it's branches... ( drum fill, then blast beats) ... around me"

  • @Jose345o Yeah I like those kind of fills that you mentionned. By the way, the part where you mentionned it is blast beats, it isn't blast beats. Opeth almost never do blast beats, in fact the only song I know to have blast beats is The Lotus Eater =P My favorite part is "I don't know how, or why, and I'll never, know when" until the end. You can feel the despair of the ghost who cannot see his loved one anymore.

  • Why the hell do they have ads that make noises and talk while I am listening? WTF?

  • 5 People could not peer through the looking glass.

  • Opeth is better than every other band!!

  • Mmmmmm.....such a beautiful piece of music....

  • Awesome band!

  • This is no metal, this is art!

  • C'est grace a cette chanson que j'ai connu ce groupe,j'en regrette rien

  • The dislike button should not show up on anything Opeth related.

  • I just smoked dmt and listened to this.

  • April Ethereal outro is a dangerous drug. Addictive, hallucinogen and painful.

7:35 Only for the brave ones...it makes you want to die.

  • @felima999

that literally could not have been said any better

  • after you listen to the whole thing there's only one word to describe it:

    masterpiece.

  • this, along with harlequin forest and moonlapse vertigo, have to be the 3 greatest outro riffs of all time

  • I can listen to this outro forever.

  • Something about MAYH that has a paranormal theme attached to it. It is the story of a dead man.

  • this is a masterpiece, and the 5 retards that pressed the dislike button should die in a horrible carcrash.

  • I just listened to this song 7 times in a row....

  • when i die, i want the outro of this song to play for eternity. thatd be the best way to die in the world

  • @80smetalchild Absolutely

  • @80smetalchild tru dat. or maybe the ending to white cluster

  • @80smetalchild Beautifull way to die!!

  • @80smetalchild Either this outro or the outro of Demon Of The Fall.

  • @YuckoRulez

or to bid you farewell,or when, or masters apprentice, or twilight is my robe, or under a weeping moon, or face of melinda, or deliverance, or moonlapse veritgo, or white cluster, or karma, or heir apparent, or ghost of perdition, or night the silent water, or black rose immortal...

whoa whoa whoa. i just realized every ending to an opeth song is fucking epic.

BUT APRIL ETHEREALS ENDING IS THE BEST!!!

  • @80smetalchild I was thinking the same thing !

  • @80smetalchild Same fucking here! This song has the most epic outro, ever.

  • @80smetalchild couldnt've said it better myself, its my single most favourite Opeth moment

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best METAL albums of all time \m/

  • this is the FIRST....FIRST song I ever heard by Opeth just as the album came out. My favorite band ever, musically and emotionally, this band destroys all others.

  • IT WAS MEEEE

    PEERING THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRARAHRARHAGAHRAASS~

  • @AbsoluteDemon i totally agree

  • I bought Orchid, Morningrise and MAYH (All in order, I'm new to Opeth) and this is definitely the best album so far. Also this is one of my favorite songs. Opeth kicks ass!

  • @spottytroll I consider MAYH to be the first 'real' Opeth album. Have fun with Still Life and Blackwater Park which most consider to be their 2 best albums.

  • @shark15

I just bought Still Life and the Collector's box set ( BWP, Deliverance, Damnation and Lamentations live (CD). I'm looking forward to getting it in the mail =]

  • TAKE ME AWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYeeeuh

  • @Nauticus89

Hahaha! I want that in the lyrics

  • epic!!!!! So melodic and so black together

  • ending is perfect

  • wow i love the part that starts at 3:40, plus the rest of the song of course

  • this song is def one of their best...mikael akerfeldt is a fuckin pimp ahaha

  • this is my favorite opeth song.

  • They played this last night in NYC at their 20th Anniversary show. Was epic.

  • makes me melt everytime

  • there are so many masterpiece sections in this song... but the ending of it stands out to me the most

  • I'm very glad i bought this album and didn't download. It felt so rewarding to realise how amazing this album is.

  • Excellent!!!

  • this is crap quality. volume keeps jumping.

  • why dont you upload it yourself, douchebag!

  • Click on the High quality... =_=

  • i don't know why, but there's no HD button. unless you refere to your lame joke of your annotation.

  • Hummm... did you tried clicking on the lame joke annotation?? Because there's a difference

  • oh right. &fmt=18. thanks.

sorry 'bout that. didn't know annotations could do that.

  • @Rawfies hey i tried clicking on that HQ button link you have inserted in the video..but it didnt take me to a higher quality. anyways..awesome song. thanks for uploading at least.

  • @Raviishing Well I uploaded this video before some Youtube upgrades, so I think it already plays in "full" quality, pressing the button won't do anything anymore.

  • @lygophile stfu its youtube what do you expect ? would opeth complain about the audio quality ? NO! THEY WOULD JUST ROCK!

  • @Rawfies No he's right, in the beginning when the guitar kicks in it seems too get less loud because the voice was too loud in comparison. We call it compression, and it is to be used with care.

  • yeah.... it sounds better anyway...

  • Well get the fucking CD then if you want good quality.

  • @lygophile

    then go get the album

  • awesome

  • @Tv87 Fucking incredible.

  • I agree, very epic ending

  • Great album... Great song... Great band!!!

    5 stars!!

  • Was so happy they played this in Brussels. Setlist was really good, though I could've done with something other than Hex Omega

  • fucking great live,i was there to

check out my video,i have deliverance from there :)

  • Sweet! Best band of the evening, imo.

I see you attended Behemoth too :) Wish I could attend Antwerp shows, but without a car it's pretty lame..

  • i took the train from brussels :)

did you saw opeth last year at the ancienne belgique?

  • and managed to get back without trouble? Coz that's the problem I have, since last trains are at 23.00 or sth..

No I didn't know they were there till too late :( So annoyed, would've loved to hear Heir Apparent live..

  • in fact,i missed the last train, and did stop to go back to brussels (ahh, good memories^^)

It was a great show ,one of the best ;)

  • I was there too! amazing show.

  • they played april etheral yesterday here in athens!!! just wow ..

  • this is one of my favorite heavy opeth songs...i like the album damnation alot. but serouisly i like Blackwater Park the best.

  • saw them in barcelona and they played april etheral :D

  • ME too! They are awseome, april ethereal is one of my favs, besides bleak, which I (try to) cover with my band ArboreA.

Just type arborea and bleak and you'll find it.

  • OMG!! 6 days till Opeth!!

I will be si pissed if they dont play

    April Ethereal! \m/

  • 1. Windowpane (vsaj neki res slin slin)

    2. The Lotus Eater

    3. Reverie/Harlquin Forest

    4. April Etheral or Hessian Peal or Burden or White Cluster

    5. Deliverance

    6. Hex Omega

You have got 25% chance that they will play April ethereal.

You have got 75% chance that you will be pissed off.

  • Yeh i heard that to... That they play April Ethereal every second concert on progressive nation now, but also i heard that they changed the setlist 1 or 2 shows ago...

You SLO? Going in Tivoli for Opeth? :D

  • we got hessian peel and april ethereal and white cluster

    they opened with it

  • @putin94 But why would you be pissed off? It's Opeth. It is ALL beautiful and awesomee! :D

  • @putin94 what about the Grand Conjuration or Bleak? Those were incredible

  • @putin94 yeah well when i saw them in chicago at the house of blues in 06 or 07 cant remember...

anyways when i saw them the crowd screamed for an encore and they came out after 10mins and played black rose immortal. yeeeaaah how about that! soo dope. only opeth would come out and play there longest song after playing for hours on end...

  • You lucky bugger...

  • Saw this live

    ORGASM

  • no way! i'd kill to see this song live..its the first song I ever heard by Opeth, it singlehandedly got me into them

  • man this songs killer, Opeth Forever

  • awsome song

  • aaaaaaaaaaa!!

    so fucking greate

    sin comentarios opeth es opeth

  • just a fucking masterpiece

  • This song is f'n awesome!

  • "I will endure..... Hidding away.....

I will out run the scythe......

    Glaring with failure........

It is a mere destiny I thought.

A threshold I have crossed before."

    Beautiful.

  • They have some of the most beautiful fucking lyrics you'll ever see in a death metal band.

And you'll see the most metal fucks out there saying the exact same thing.

  • Every album is pure genious.
