  • As a beginner, this video is really useful! A LOT of things make more sense now.

Not very organized and not much I can apply immediately but visually and auditorily you just make perfect sense. Thanks!

  • Great video

  • Ah box scales. I love the blues box scale (which is almost identical to this formation)

  • Are you double picking?

  • Hey ¿Can you send me the backing track? please

  • why don't you use your pinky finger?

  • Why do you keep throwing the flat 5th in there?

  • What kind of strat Is that , american stratocaster. What year is it?

    .

  • christ, what a good teacher !

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • first impression: aw man 240p this is gonna suck

at the end: HOLY SHIT THIS IS HELPFUL!

  • Friggin Awesome Man..... Now I have something i can actually see and understand... Thanks Sooooooo Much..

    Appreciated... Tommy

  • good video

  • I learned stuff.

  • the quality is not so good, but the video is heavily helpful! nice!

  • very helpful THANKS Tim!

  • This is so great! Thanks SO much for posting this!!

  • After reviewing all these comments,I have one question,Why in the fu*k are you ppl even watching this tutorial if you already know more than the teacher? I smell bullsh*t!!!

  • Why on earth is he playing a D# on the A string?!

  • This was actually kinda helpful

  • what is that backing track

  • I love the way you teaching us keep going and share yours, and may God bless you .I am From Bali Indonesia.

  • you're mixing the blues scale with the standard, you need to get rid of that second note on the A string, should only be fingers 1 and 3, unless you add finger 3 to the G string

    1/4

    1/3 or 1/2/3 (for blues)

    1/3

    1/3

    1/4 or 1/3/4 (for blues)

    1/4

  • @TheMetalGuy852 You are correct

  • Great lesson, enjoyed it lots. A bit confused when you used half the blues scale at the beginning then left them out in the explanation! Otherwise it was a big help, many thanks.

  • Thank man

  • thanks man..good explanation

  • you forgot one note on the g...isnt it?

  • Pentatonic means five not six. Stop teaching wrong scales. There is not a single flat note in A pentatonic. There are no sharps and no flats in A pentatonic. If i was your neighbor I would certainly tell you to "bone up"

  • @ohhellyeahgimmeabeer dude he is all right. he plays the scale with a lil interwall after 5 notes. and he clearly know what pentatonic means. its your understanding skills that needs improvement.

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 PENTATONIC means 5 tones not 6. Understand counting fuckface along with english you kissass.

  • @ohhellyeahgimmeabeer i KNOW WHAT A FUCKIGN PENTATONIC SCALE IS. That was the first fucking thing i learned in my uitar course -.- now REREAD my fucking comment asshole

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 FUCKIGN ... really?!

    uitar ... really?!

learn how to type while your relearning your pentatonic scales you little cunt.

  • @ohhellyeahgimmeabeer Haha patethic. u dont know what to say so u rage at my little typo. got anything else to say than raging cuz i mispelled guitar? i think YOU should go and relearn everything you know about a guitar. cuz you doesnt seem to understand a shit. u mad bro?

  • u gotta use the pinky m8

  • Thanks my guitar tutor have been making me to do this for 8 months and i still suck!

  • This is a blues pentatonic scale in the key of A.... not rock and roll....

  • Nice video + thank you for the song!

  • he's a good neighbour

  • Comment removed

  • TIm is deliberately inroducing confusion with a purpose of making it harder for newbies to get it ..haha..

If you want a real you tube teacher, find Desi Serna right here on utube. He teaches with love.

    Tim. thanks you anyway

  • MAN! PLS do NOT teach kids a wrong scale. And the last two jumps shoud be made by the PINKY, not the ring finger.

  • Why did you add the D# note? I thought pentatonic was only 5 notes??

  • so basically go through the scale back and forth with bends

  • pentatonics are just two notes per string and you play three notes on the a string this isnt right

  • @JPShreddinq he mixed the blues scale with the pentatonic scale.

you can tell because of the 3 notes on the a string as you said, therefore his "scale" is wrong

  • @ThePyroHobo shouldve known

  • im sorry...but this is wrong he put a flat 5th in the first octav but not in the second...and in all trueness the flat 5th isnt in pentatonic scale yes its in blues scale but he got that wrong too he would add the 8th fret on the G string to make blues but remove the 6th fret on the a string for pentatonic...sorry to be "that guy" but teach us right please sir

  • Hey man, this is a very cool lesson! ive just created some beginner courses that you might want to check out on my channel. Its the Hub of a new website >> RexPearson. com << would love for you to check it out and let me know what you think

    Rex

  • dude thats a blues scale, not pentatonic. and your missing the second D# (8th fret G string)

  • Word up. You are instructing three notes on the A string one time, then two with another.

  • that's a blues scale

  • @StuxUp the pentatonic blues scale

  • Tim,

Your lick is excellent but you are too fast towards the end of the clip. I wish you could do a slow paced clip teaching the same.

    Rich

  • did he say anal at around 0:30 ?

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 hahahahahaha A-note

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 A note he said

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 A note

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 cock balls

  • Comment removed

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 It's "A note" not anal . . . . .

  • @Saucesin Man you must have felt stupid when you realized you just replied to a 7 month old comment that has already gotten hundreds of replies.

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 u must be dreaming!

  • @UzumakiNarutoKun96 A note you deaf faggot.

  • @brbpwn Man i didnt realize my comment was still on the top after 8 months!! :)

  • @brbpwn ROFL.

  • rock on you dude:)

  • nice..i easily learn the pentatonic scale...tnx a lot dude..^_^

  • the 6th fret (D#) on the a string isn't part of the a minor pentatonic.

  • @mcskittle3232 Yeah i noticed that too. :)

  • What a fail. That's the key of a minor not a.

  • Thanks a bunch! Great lesson! I like how you break it down to make it easy to remember.

  • hahahaha... i luvd it :D

  • great lesson with great tone and feel, Thanks!

  • I just got an esp m50,its a basic beginner guitar I guess, will it do such 'bends' - question may be silly, these things are completely new to me :-)

  • @Galliger1986 Yeah, it will and It can do even more insane bends, cause it has a floyd rose bridge!

  • I am sure others have mentioned this but.... well, first THANKS FOR THE LESSON. You rock. 'Nuff said.

@ 0:33 you play a 13 note scale, including a Bb on the A string, but @ 1:24 you play without that note, making it a 12 note scale. (back to a 13 note scale @ 1:41).

Might not be a huge deal but I thought it was worth a mention. Again, thanks for the lessons. You’ve got a new subscriber!

  • hey look!!! 80 people would be the crappiest students ever!! thumbs up if you agree!!

Thanks for such a great, user friendly vid!!

  • ty

  • guy looks like a bitch!

  • you played an extra note (e on the 5th/a string) at 35secs thats not supposed to be in the pentatonic scale in the key of A.

  • @blazingbell it's a blue note, Eb-D#, i think :)

  • @crissthian

you're prob correct- i'll have to look again :-)

  • yay! :D

  • If you're as good at guitar as you are at teaching, you must have amazing guitar skills! Seriously, you really seem to be a gifted teacher. Thanks for making this video; I only wish I'd seen it a few years ago.

  • ur really good

  • very good video, helped me understand more about pentatonics and string bending, thanks

  • Thanks for this! I am a beginner. One question...at 38-39 seconds in you are playing the A string...it looked like you fretted it three times (three separate notes) later in the video you say to jump two frets (thus only playing two notes) Which is correct? Either way?

  • anyone else think he sounds exactly like lindsey buckingham?

  • Thank you. You're awesome!

  • Do you play the second position, or the first postion further up the scale?

  • Thank you This is a good Practical Video!!!

  • thank you!!! a good Practical Video!

  • Thanks! I've been taking guitar class for about a month - I know how to play the major and minor pentatonic scales, but I wasn't sure what to do with them to make it sound like music instead of scales.

  • This is the best so far. Thanks man!!

  • Thanks, man! Very useful video. Cheers!

  • I thank you for this very informative video it was just what i needed question can you play this scale in all major chords or key's where do you get your backing tracks from, thanks again this realy helped me keep on rockin'.....

  • I thank you for this very informative video it was just what i needed question can you play this scale in all major chords or key's thanks again this realy helped me keep on rockin'.....

  • Thanks for this video, this isn't as difficult as i thought it was :-)

  • Am I the only one that can bend with my pinky? Why are so many blues riffs only played with three fingers?

  • @ChromeFang in my opinion when playing blue, since there is a lot of bending it becomes easier to bend with a stronger finger than my pinky. In normal playing i use my pinky all the time but its much easier to bend with my ring finger so thats the best explanation i can give.

  • yeah, the scales, practice them for hours every day. That is just the pentatonic scales, the major scales are more complicated. I am learning to play guitar myself, rock style and a lot of classical style.

  • One important note that i'm sure was pointed out before...this is actually the a minor blues scale. Not much difference but yeah.

  • I found this VERY useful

  • 0:30 lol he said anal :D

  • HAve you tried Fret Daddy fretboard stickers -the "fast and easy way to learn scales?"

Fret Daddy sells "repositionable fretboard stickers" with the scales printed right on them, which you can put right on your fretboard so you can have the scales right there on your guitar while you are trying to learn them. I just learned about this last week from a friend. Sounds amazing! Heard great things. Can't wait to try it out myself.

  • Hi ! :D

  • thats not in the key of A thats in the key of C, thats a blues a minor pentatonic (6th mode of c major modes).

I'm sorry to criticize but, unless you actually know what your talking about you shouldn't be teaching people false things.

  • very good teacher, clear and very good pace, thanks

  • I have that guitar, it's shit. Good thing it doesn't ruin his guitar skill lol.

  • great lesson man, keep it up!

  • A gay guy comes along and proclaims ,"Yeah, I can bend." Good video.

  • thanks man this vid really helped...i know some of my scales but didnt really know what to do with them .

  • Great tutorial! I like the simple phrasing context you use during the backing track. Great for those guys trying to learn unfamiliar territory. no showing off. Great tutorial,Great illustration. Btw, who gives a shit about the octave b5, I rarely use it myself. besides they will discover it on their own soon enough.

  • There are many Pentatonic scales this is just one of them haha. But very nice video i actually like to bar the third and second string and bend. on the third strings scale. Gives you an even better bending rock noise.

  • Thank You!

  • for ppl wondering what the rythm hes playing to. im guessing its in his amp, some amps have that built in them so you can jam along to them. they also have all different kinds of genre. my buddy had one, their pretty cool.

  • really really good!! i had learnt the scales but i didnt know what to with them..thanks man...

  • yeah see i play thrash metal and i find it hard to incorporate scales in my solos. my favorite scale is the blues scale ( in any key ) and i can put into slow songs like ballads that i write but anything else and i don't know how to put in apregios or scales except for the chromatic, which is boring in my opinion. got any scale suggestions for a classic 80's thrash metal type song

  • you should learn vibrato like a real man before you put tutorials on the internet....its a guitar not a violin

  • NIce man. Thanks really. You encouraged me to use my guitar more and do a little of my self with the pentatonic scale. Is this it? I mean it's the pentatonic scale right? You just have to adjust it to the key in order for it to sound good? Anyway good job bro. keeep it up. God bless you!

  • I have pentatonic guitar lessons on my channel too. With tab. Check it out!
