i bet yall niggas still dont know what he meant when he said "F the po-Lice" cuz i see alot of ppl commentin' on what he meant but none of yall is right at all
just like blacks down south we call the police them 'crackas' b/c that is the nature of the power structure in 'america' no matter if the police is black brown, or yellow they all congregate to uphold the white way of life
in Ras Kass's line "F the po-Lice" thats a common terminology amongst blacks to refer to racist ass white officers of the law b/c #1 racist white folks would always utilize their power to degrade & demonize blacks so blacks in return would form our own perceptions in a REACTIONARY frame of thought. we all know that whites can get lice due to the texture of their hair blacks cant & so it was a slick ass metaphor that dissed white po-Lice officers on the sly
@MikeMagician12 , LMAO yeah amazon had people selling soul on ice for as high as 300 something bucks lucky me though, I got it for 25 bucks 30 was the most I was willing to pay for it!
I aint got time now.Onmy way to work. Cant you tell me in detail what he did? why would i want to hear it in a rap when you could give me better details about exactly what he did.
@mikeygeneral haha, yo i'm just trying to help your lil young ass out. I told you exactly where to go in the cut to listen and find out a brief explanation. If you want a more in depth explanation you can read which would take up more of your precious time, then do the research yourself lil boy.
@kinstube Being that Snoop is the creative chairman of Priority Records, you might see it happen sooner than you think. He wants to reissue all of the classic hip hop albums that were released originally on Priority- as well as albums that weren't- such as Kam's "Neva Again".
Hip classic..The Substitute movie put Miami on the map..rite b4 Trick Daddy,Trina and Slip N Slide records did their part. I use 2 have the cd. Good cd. Miss the 90's best hip era in my opinion
Great movie, and great cut! This is my shit and was my shit since the movie came out! I would rewind thedamn movie credits al the time lol..90s muzik all the way!!
probably the 100th time i listened this song! loved it from the first time i heard it at the acknowledgements for the movie the substitute in 97! thats when you know a song is the shit when you like it from the first time you hear it!
Illmatic was not my fav nas album cause i didnt like all the beats that album had, i thought it was writting had better beats and lirycs.I mean why you ppl always mention illmatic what bout az do or die killah priest heavy mental keith murray enigma redman canibus lord finesse kool g rap. All these other mc's have way better albums then illmatic imo.
i get tired of niggas saying " this album was dope but had weak beats" fuck this album was a masterpiece.Everthing from the lirycs to the beats is great, by far the best hip hop album ever made. I just think ppl find it hard to except soul on ice was a masterpiece So they rather pick illmatic or 36 chambers as better albums, but why ??? I didn even like the beats on 36 chambers. Wutangs other albums were better imo and illmatic was a great album but nas is not better then ras kass plus
@Coltrane360 i didn like 36 chambers much it had too many damn skips.Im not sayin it was a bad album, it had classic songs ofcourse but the skips and some of the beats imo were weak

IM SICK OF U UNORIGINAL PIECES OF GARBAGE RAP ..WHERE HIPHOP?
3. Ras Kass, Ok its fkd up cause some people never even heard of Ras. And he also is incredible talent. His content lyrically back then( i dont know how he is these days) was insane. HE IS THE BEST EVER ON THE WEST...sorry snoop and dre
And Realize people, everyone has their own opinion.
1. RAKIM - GOD MC - He was first MC to UPLIFT people(KRS-ONE at the time had a album called Criminal Minded so no one was doing it like Ra) HE is the GOD mc even though some cats out there are up there with him.
2. I have to say Canibus im sorry. This guy is so lyrically gifted and informed its ridiculous. You would have to study geometry, history, and all kinds of stuff to be on his level. Mainstream crucified his career which is bs
Im white male 24 yrs old...years ago I would listen but I didn't HEAR lyrical content from real Mc's. Listening to Ras Kass both albums, Soul on Ice and Rassassation. He HAS to be in top 10 or even top 5 of all time.
Lyrically...Ras Kass Soul On Ice & Nas Illmatic Lyrically are about NECK n NECK. Have you ever Heard Soul On Ice??? Tracks like Nature of the Threat??? Ras Kas Drops CRAZY KNOWLEDGE!!!, Sonset where he answers East Coast Niggas on some BATTLE shit letting who eva out there KNOW..i'll Battle you and destroy you...DEFINATLEY DOWNLOAD IT on iTUNES... YOU'LL DEFINATLEY GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH.. RAS KASS IS A GREAT ARTIST & A DEEP THINKER!!!
@AsiaticBlackman7 NaS is my favorite artist period! However, you are correct. "Soul On Ice" is close to Illmatic, but not quite. There is not a better song than "N.Y. State of Mind."
@DOUBLEOTA - Ordo Abchao " Order out of Chaos" and " Nature of the Threat" Both smoke out Ny State of Mind! Nuff Said ! Nas sold out a long time ago but Ras Kass still gets that Underground respect on Both Coasts !!!!
@Wangtime1 Never!!!!! Ras is nice son, but in my opinion "Illmatic" has never been topped. Maybe Rakim's "Paid In Full". And who did Nas sell out to? Nas will never go platinum again because he has not sold out.
@DOUBLEOTA Nas barely gets any underground respect cause he sold out the day he Signed with Jay Z (For his new Albums, only old shyt)! I'm not denying Nas's Skill cause I used to listen to him as well but stopped after "God's Son"! Did Ras Kass ever go Platinum? Maybe on Sould on Ice..... But I don't think he ever went past Gold after Sould On Ice Album. I'm not talking about ILLMATIC the whole Album I was talking about NY State of Mind vs Order out of Chaos and Nature of the Threat!
@Wangtime1 I respect your opinion. However, it's tough for me to get involved in the whole "sellout" argument. I don't know the ins and outs of that situation. NaS was on Columbia, that label is horrible! Also, go YOU TUBE "Failure" by Lupe Fiasco. IT KILLS "Order Out of Chaos" & "Nature of The Threat" in my opinion. Peace & love.
@DOUBLEOTA Much Respect to you Bro! I heard Failure before by Lupe! He is a little too comercial for me but I have Respect for Chi-town no doubt.
Jedi Mind Tricks ft. RA the Rugged Man - Uncommon Valor (w/lyrics) YouTube that song! Over 2 million hits and counting! Its kicking Knowledge about the Vietnam War and RA gets Sick on the second verse, no one I've heard has ripped a beat harder than on this track! Check it out! Peace
@AsiaticBlackman7 Exactly I was callin Soul on Ice the West Coast's " ILLMATIC" over 10 years go! Back when people used to buy CDs at record stores on release dates and listen to them while chillin out smokin in their whips!
yeah right. he is rated right where he needs to be. as a dope lyricist not the best. I heard cats around the way with no deal spit just as nice. ppl who have been listening know rass could of been dope but he made bad moves with bad ppl. love the cd but not no where close to top 10 on my very long list. just my opinion though peace.
Yeah, that's the foul shit about being in the business. I could say the same thing about Shyheim. Shyheim could've been something big. He had the biggest upper hand from just being as young as he was with the skills he had but made bad choices. And kicked it wit da wrong heads. Being in this business really does require having a business mind. Having tight flow is a plus, but having tight flow and good business strategy will help you be number one. To Surpass these bitch niggaz in the game now.
I LOVE this song. Listen to it about 8 times a day. It's hard to understand what he's saying though. He uses so many names, media items, that I have no idea what dude is talking about lol
@BHayley thats definitely a line from major payne which came out about a year ago from when this movie did so at the time it was relevant but now most of you guys are clueless about what that references
Nice song, did some people seriously ignore Ras just because of this song's title referring to the hometown of whack groups like 2 Live Crew, making them think Ras himself is also from there?
They contributed alot to hip hop, one being the first (and only) rap group to set a legal precedent by challenging, in the Fla. supreme court, laws that infringed upon the first amendment rights of musicians (the Broward County obscenity ordinance which banned the sale of their music and barred them from performing there). They also brought Miami bass and club music to the forefront of the industry in a time when hip hop was primarily East or West coast.
I think they live too much off the controversy and not because of the music. I appreciate their challenge against the law but their music didn't take much talent, they might have a good song here and there like "Coolin" but other than that it was just "this bitch sucked my dick" with no sign of any changes. Too Short pulled off being a mostly one dimensional rapper talking about sex most of his albums. Even he became outdated by the time he retired but at least he's more entertaining than 2 Live
saafir's dope too. remember golden state, ras, xzibit and saafir. That album would've been nasty. saafir and ras did another song together on the street fighter soundtrack with ahmad called comwidditt. ras drops venom.
Unofficially it did drop. Look for Saafir's limited edition album "One of the Hardest." Material he recorded from 1997-2002, including several Golden State Warriors tracks.
soul on ice kills illmatic, you must be a youngster trying to sound like you know whats up. stay silent please, you're making a fool of yourself. someone told you wrong.
They both crazy dope hip hop, just leave it alone Ras Kass and Nasir are both dope, check out the 94 Wake up show anthem back when they both first came out. They were both nuts and shrunk every other mc on the song including saafir from souls of mischief. Ya'll need to just chill and enjoy, like Fear of Black Man's dick is everything Black steel in moment of chaos was
This song aged very well.

3. Ras Kass, Ok its fkd up cause some people never even heard of Ras. And he also is incredible talent. His content lyrically back then( i dont know how he is these days) was insane. HE IS THE BEST EVER ON THE WEST...sorry snoop and dre

Ras the best on the west

YOU'LL DEFINATLEY GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH.. RAS KASS IS A GREAT ARTIST & A DEEP THINKER!!!
AsiaticBlackman7 2 years ago 35
@AsiaticBlackman7 lyrically maybe their close, but kass' flow on soul on ice, and the production he used just doesnt come close to illmatic...
KINDOS11 1 year ago
@AsiaticBlackman7 NaS is my favorite artist period! However, you are correct. "Soul On Ice" is close to Illmatic, but not quite. There is not a better song than "N.Y. State of Mind."
DOUBLEOTA 1 year ago
@DOUBLEOTA - Ordo Abchao " Order out of Chaos" and " Nature of the Threat" Both smoke out Ny State of Mind! Nuff Said ! Nas sold out a long time ago but Ras Kass still gets that Underground respect on Both Coasts !!!!
Wangtime1 1 year ago
@Wangtime1 Never!!!!! Ras is nice son, but in my opinion "Illmatic" has never been topped. Maybe Rakim's "Paid In Full". And who did Nas sell out to? Nas will never go platinum again because he has not sold out.
DOUBLEOTA 1 year ago
@DOUBLEOTA Nas barely gets any underground respect cause he sold out the day he Signed with Jay Z (For his new Albums, only old shyt)! I'm not denying Nas's Skill cause I used to listen to him as well but stopped after "God's Son"! Did Ras Kass ever go Platinum? Maybe on Sould on Ice..... But I don't think he ever went past Gold after Sould On Ice Album. I'm not talking about ILLMATIC the whole Album I was talking about NY State of Mind vs Order out of Chaos and Nature of the Threat!
Wangtime1 1 year ago
@Wangtime1 I respect your opinion. However, it's tough for me to get involved in the whole "sellout" argument. I don't know the ins and outs of that situation. NaS was on Columbia, that label is horrible! Also, go YOU TUBE "Failure" by Lupe Fiasco. IT KILLS "Order Out of Chaos" & "Nature of The Threat" in my opinion. Peace & love.
DOUBLEOTA 1 year ago

I heard cats around the way with no deal spit just as nice. ppl who have been listening know rass could of been dope but he made bad moves with bad ppl. love the cd but not no where close to top 10 on my very long list. just my opinion though peace.
metalf919 2 years ago
Yeah, that's the foul shit about being in the business. I could say the same thing about Shyheim. Shyheim could've been something big. He had the biggest upper hand from just being as young as he was with the skills he had but made bad choices. And kicked it wit da wrong heads. Being in this business really does require having a business mind. Having tight flow is a plus, but having tight flow and good business strategy will help you be number one. To Surpass these bitch niggaz in the game now.

@BHayley thats definitely a line from major payne which came out about a year ago from when this movie did so at the time it was relevant but now most of you guys are clueless about what that references

Nice song, did some people seriously ignore Ras just because of this song's title referring to the hometown of whack groups like 2 Live Crew, making them think Ras himself is also from there?
fleshnbone187 2 years ago 2
How is 2 Live Crew wack?
They contributed alot to hip hop, one being the first (and only) rap group to set a legal precedent by challenging, in the Fla. supreme court, laws that infringed upon the first amendment rights of musicians (the Broward County obscenity ordinance which banned the sale of their music and barred them from performing there). They also brought Miami bass and club music to the forefront of the industry in a time when hip hop was primarily East or West coast.
Broyale26 2 years ago 2
I think they live too much off the controversy and not because of the music. I appreciate their challenge against the law but their music didn't take much talent, they might have a good song here and there like "Coolin" but other than that it was just "this bitch sucked my dick" with no sign of any changes. Too Short pulled off being a mostly one dimensional rapper talking about sex most of his albums. Even he became outdated by the time he retired but at least he's more entertaining than 2 Live

saafir's dope too. remember golden state, ras, xzibit and saafir. That album would've been nasty. saafir and ras did another song together on the street fighter soundtrack with ahmad called comwidditt. ras drops venom.
galvi7 2 years ago
Unofficially it did drop. Look for Saafir's limited edition album "One of the Hardest." Material he recorded from 1997-2002, including several Golden State Warriors tracks.

soul on ice kills illmatic, you must be a youngster trying to sound like you know whats up. stay silent please, you're making a fool of yourself. someone told you wrong.
galvi7 2 years ago
They both crazy dope hip hop, just leave it alone Ras Kass and Nasir are both dope, check out the 94 Wake up show anthem back when they both first came out. They were both nuts and shrunk every other mc on the song including saafir from souls of mischief. Ya'll need to just chill and enjoy, like Fear of Black Man's dick is everything Black steel in moment of chaos was
Lorenzo312 2 years ago
that's all well and good bro but saafir the saucy nomad is from the hobo junction.
galvi7 2 years ago
I know that but he did so many joints with SOM that I thought he was part of the group too. My bad. Is that coolio in the video?
