Parts cost very little really... About 70p for the brass, 10p for the LED,80p for the nylon rod (of which you use very little each time) 50p/cell, 10p for the Orings and 10p for the split ring.... So all in all about £2.00 for the parts. Then just add 2-4 hours labour time (dependant on finish/style etc) and you're looking at £20-£40!!! (~ 24-48 euros)
@247amoss Please refer to the description box for the link to Start model engineering.... A friends website that has my full written instruction on how to make these torches.There are also the pictures of Johns acrylic versions of the torches.
DH - all 4 vids are great. I have downloaded them as I am a beginner and am still practising using my lathe and drill press. Subscribed and looking forward to more! Regards, and thanks again, A
Very happy to find they are to be used as I intended :-)
Not too sure how many more or how fast they will come.... Took a lot of time to make these!
Not to mention the need to think of other things to make!
I hope you will manage with just the videos as a guide for now.... I haven't sorted the plans yet.... Hopefully by next week I'll have something on paper?
that brass cuts beautifully, what kind of lathe is that?

@ironlionkalo Hi, it's a 9x20 Chinese lathe. The brass is CW614N / CZ121 pb3 free machining grade.

Is the lathe your using a mini lathe or a full sized lathe?
airfixman1234 11 months ago
@airfixman1234 It's a 9x20 mini lathe That's a 9 inch (~225mm) swing with a 20inch (~500mm) long bed.
It has a 5inch (~125mm) 3 jaw chuck on it.
And the brass hex' in the chuck is 1/2 inch or 12.75mm across the flats.
Hope that helps get a feel for the sizes?

such a smashingly appropriate choice of soundtrack.....ubercool...its like the music draws the center dril into the brass haha...too cool ...cheers
laphant 1 year ago
@laphant Good to know that it's as much a draw as the visual part.... Ed's tunes are all so very, very good :-)
This track just seemed to fit.
Not wanting to sound pretentious but, I listen to this and other tracks while I work. I find it helps me create the shapes in the metals :-)
Possibly just my thing.... I know others who hate music in their workshops!
Anywho, glad you liked it.

@terence20001 Thank you. I'll take all the credit for the work :-)
Alas I do not own the talent to have made the soundtrack as well.... But have given full credits in the description and end credits.
Too late now, but will have a better look through your videos, spotted the LED one already :-)

Such a clear concise demonstration, facinating to watch and set to be a useful guide for newcomers to turning on the lathe. I love the music too !!!

Happy you like the music too.... Just seems to fit well with this type of video.
