Wendy has always been my favorite. She has the voice of an angel and she is just gorgeous. It's a shame she doesn't focus more on her career. Her voice stands out the most to me on this song and a lot of their songs. She has such a unique earthy sound. What a waste of talent! :(

Elton John, in an interview, said that he cut a verse out of the song because it was too long..... it was a verse that explained the song. As far as I know he's never come forward with the verse.
Apparently, Bernie Taupin suggested that it was about a fictional US Vietnam veteran who was escaping from his hero's welcome back in his home town. 'Daniel' who was blinded during the conflict yearns to return to his simple, former way of life. The song is from his brother's perspective and explains how 'Daniel' was driven away due to all the plaudits and celebrations of his bravery and exploits and how the memories of war still and will always lay fresh in his mind.
This song always makes my sad. My Mom's brother was named Daniel and he killed himself before I was born. She always used to listen to this song in the car with a sad look on her face when I was a kid, and it took me a long time to understand why she was so sad whenever that song came on the radio. I didn't know him, but this song is just so fitting and sad for the situation. Great song - I love Wilson Phillips!
Not many covers are capable of matching or exceeding the original version, but this is up there with one of the best interpretations of a classic. Great harmonies and the usual tumultuous climax that WP perform so well. Have come to prefer this version to Elton's original!
I'd love to see Wilson-Phillips sing this with Sir Elton. Replace that sax with all Elton on the piano and drop the drums completely.

Also, I'm absolutely certain, that this group use to a have an obese chick as the main back-up singer.... I see that she's been thrown out of the group (maybe she tried to eat one of the other band members). It was probably a good commercial move because most people aren't in to fat chicks.. well, that's all I have to say about that.

I"ve probably criticized many remakes in my time , but this is one where the remake actually trumps the original. I absolutely love this. Their vocals and harmonies are excellent and the music is superb!!!!

@elmando5 "Daniel" was written by Elton John's writing partner Bernie Taupin. When Elton wrote the music for it, he chopped off the last verse because he thought the song was already too long. This completely changed the meaning of the song, as the deleted verse explained that "Daniel" was a Vietnam Vet who returned home after the war, lost his eyesight, and decided to leave America and go to Spain. With the last verse chopped off, it became a fairly vague story of 2 brothers who part ways.

BUT .. with this trio of female harmony-artists, we're talking about the very best possible pedigrees & inbuilt musical / singing talent in their genes. And thus, quite expectedly, they carry off this beautiful song to perfection. What pure, crystal-clear voice and harmony this trio put out !! Glorious.

This song reminds me of my friend. We consider each other brother and sister, and although he's a year younger than me I totally connect the song to him. He's not totally welcome in his home, but he's a star to me.

Can somebody explain to me what´s the meaning of this song please, What I can understand is that Daniel had an airplane accident or something like that, but I´m not sure. What I can Assure is that WP have amazzing voices, I´m from Monterrey Mex and I lived a few months in Detroit, so their voices takes me right there, where I spent those magic moments with my uncle and cousins.

Elton John, in an interview, said that he cut a verse out of the song because it was too long..... it was a verse that explained the song. As far as I know he's never come forward with the verse.

Apparently, Bernie Taupin suggested that it was about a fictional US Vietnam veteran who was escaping from his hero's welcome back in his home town. 'Daniel' who was blinded during the conflict yearns to return to his simple, former way of life. The song is from his brother's perspective and explains how 'Daniel' was driven away due to all the plaudits and celebrations of his bravery and exploits and how the memories of war still and will always lay fresh in his mind.

This song always makes my sad. My Mom's brother was named Daniel and he killed himself before I was born. She always used to listen to this song in the car with a sad look on her face when I was a kid, and it took me a long time to understand why she was so sad whenever that song came on the radio. I didn't know him, but this song is just so fitting and sad for the situation. Great song - I love Wilson Phillips!

Not many covers are capable of matching or exceeding the original version, but this is up there with one of the best interpretations of a classic. Great harmonies and the usual tumultuous climax that WP perform so well. Have come to prefer this version to Elton's original!
