RONAN'S ESCAPE tells the story of what Bullying may lead to, No one deserves to go through all this. We need to be strong and not look away; we need to show compassion and support, and be there for victoms and stand up for them the very moment when Bullying happens. All of us need to do that. Then things can get better.
this guy and another girl came to our school and did a show about cyber bullying, it really opened my eyes to how it affects people an stuff. he is amazing!
It's hard to really imagine + understand what bully victims go through (online + offline as well), unless you either know it from personal experience, or hear it from someone who is a victim - or from someone who really cares about the topic. It's so sad that we, in our modern world, need to deal with such a barbarian issue as bullying in the first place. But knowledge is power, and so educating people on bullying (in a movie, or at schools) offers a first chance to make a change.
You are right, Crystal. Sadly, bullying is something that can hit anyone, boy or girl, at any time - and even adults. This is why it is so important that finally those who know about others being bullied, who become witnesses of someone being abused, or who are being asked for help, don't turn the blind eye, but stand up for the victims and help in any way they can. And the more will join in on this, the better it will work.
Genuinely impressed by this short film which I saw recently. It's beautifully shot, well acted and is a powerful story intelligently told through the melding of visuals and music, with minimal need for dialogue. Hitchcock would call such storytelling 'pure cinema'. This film is pure cinema and is clearly made by an intelligent director.

I am so sorry to hear what you had to go through! This is an outrage, and no apology in the world could really make well again for what happened to you.
How your old school reacted, by doing nothing, and the fact that acts of such brutality are going on at their place, shows how helpless they are. But this may not go on. Things need to be done, to make students feel safe; at that school, and in so many other schools around the world! Victims need protection, and those who bully need help.
I will try to keep this trailer here updated with current news about international festival and DVD releases etc., as soon as I get to know something, so you might want to check in here once in a while. And I will also make an occasional tweet about things I learn on that , so you're pretty much on the safe side now :-)!

What a bully needs to see and to accept in the first place is that the circle does not start with him. He has, during some time in his life, been a victim himself; he has suffered from abuse and maltreatment; he has ben hurt. These things may well still be present in his current life.
And what he also needs to see us that none of his own misery will improve a bit, by making other people suffer. Just because there are people that feel even more miserable than you, does not make you feel good!
Bullies need help as well. But their way to accepting this, and trying to find and get help will be even longer, more winding and painful as the way that their victims may have.
The victims "only" fear to be beat up even more of they tell on the bully.
The bully will have to fear losing his only tool of making himself feel better: His power over weaker kids; his ability to be in control and to make others feel miserable. And he then has to find ways to deal with his own abusive situation.
Everyone should watch this movie. Either on one of the movie festivals around the world, where it will shown (I'll try to keep making updates about upcoming dates here, as soon as I get to know of some), or later on DVD.
Many things come together here, indeed. I learned about this movie so many months ago, as lazdav (David Lazarus) plays the lead character and posted the info at his channel. Then the trailer came along and impressed me so much ... and then, there was Kel.

Thank you for the comments and your personal stories. So you are aware, the aim of the film is to bring awareness through controversy to one of the most overlooked problems worldwide, and to candy coat the ending of the film is to do exactly what 99% of people do every day which is to ignore the effects of bullying in schools and offices that in turn triggers the ramifications which arise because of this ignorance.
What makes RONAN'S ESCAPE so important, is the openness and the realism of the story that is being told - which portrays what the life and dreadful reality of so many children around the world is like, and makes us aware of how much pain, fear and sadness a bullied child has to go through every day.
RONAN'S ESCAPE shatters the walls of ignorance. And it dares you to show compassion, to find your inner strength, and to help.
Fighting back means that you use the weapon your adversary uses. This will lead to more fights. And it will get you into trouble yourself even, maybe, for something that you did not really want to do.
If people are there for each other, just friends, other pupils, and the more, the better, helping someone in need, against someone who bullies, getting grown-up help etc. - this is the beginning of a good path. Then the bully sees that he will not get through with how he treats people.
You can ... if you find your inner strength, that is there in every one of us, and if you dare to get help. And if you, hopefully, have a friend, who stands true to you.

I can tell you we should be finished in the next 3 weeks or so, in time to allow us to apply for a lot of the major festivals that take place world wide as we won't be limiting the film to solely Australia.

The question is okay, Michael; in answering it, yet, I respect certain boundaries that are there ... I said as much about Kel's death as I want to in public in the info box text of BEYOND THE WINDOW.
But it was not due to his bully. Kel had managed with this situation, although it was so hard for him; he stood his ground, and he got help ... Well, and finally the bully was expelled from school, because he just wouldn't stop, although he had gotten his final warning by the school's principal.
So good that you pay attention to this bullying at schools, my friend. So many children are suffering.
Yes, ofcourse I see Kel his story also,but it is so good to see what you do with this so sad ending of Kel his life. But you and I know both he is alive in many hearts, especially in yours!
This Australian short movie came to my attention already in 2008, because David had posted the news on his channel. Even then already, the topic was sensitive to me, and I think the movie is intense and beautifully made as well.
To re-discover this movie and find new and special meaning in it, many months later, is just like what happened to me with BEYOND THE WINDOW.
Kel's struggle against being bullied was a successful one, eventually. And this is a sign of hope, for so many out there!
Yes, the story is indeed very similar to what Kel had to go through. This is what makes this movie so important to me - but most special is the fact that Kel was, in the end, able to stand his ground and, with your help, make things change.
If you like, you can congratulate David Lazarus on his channel (link is in the info box) on his really great job playing Ronan.
But you will have better chances than I seeing it, I think ... it's an Australian short movie and will first and foremost shown there, and maybe even in South East Asia.
Well, the film company that made RONAN'S ESCAPE also has a studio in Hollywood, though, and hopefully distributors in the USA, so I still hope for a world wide release; maybe some time later than in Australia ... fingers crossed!

I'll transfer all the info from Twitter and Facebook accounts of RONAN'S ESCAPE here into the comments section. Smooth Motion Films, the movie company, will not put the film on the Internet (apart fro the trailer) for now, as they want to compete for an Oscar, and to do so, you may not do so before the Award Ceremonies.
RONAN'S ESCAPE will be on Film Festivals worldwide; maybe some of us are lucky enough to have one near the place we live. The movie will later also be published ion DVD.

Thank you for the comments and your personal stories. So you are aware, the aim of the film is to bring awareness through controversy to one of the most overlooked problems worldwide, and to candy coat the ending of the film is to do exactly what 99% of people do every day which is to ignore the effects of bullying in schools and offices that in turn triggers the ramifications which arise because of this ignorance.

Fighting back means that you use the weapon your adversary uses. This will lead to more fights. And it will get you into trouble yourself even, maybe, for something that you did not really want to do.
If people are there for each other, just friends, other pupils, and the more, the better, helping someone in need, against someone who bullies, getting grown-up help etc. - this is the beginning of a good path. Then the bully sees that he will not get through with how he treats people.

Hi Everyone,
Firstly let me introduce myself, I'm Brad Major the Producer of Ronan's Escape, and thank you for your comments on our short film.
I can tell you we should be finished in the next 3 weeks or so, in time to allow us to apply for a lot of the major festivals that take place world wide as we won't be limiting the film to solely Australia.
There are twitter and facebook accounts to make it easier to track the film in festivals so you can see if it ends up at one near you.

The question is okay, Michael; in answering it, yet, I respect certain boundaries that are there ... I said as much about Kel's death as I want to in public in the info box text of BEYOND THE WINDOW.
But it was not due to his bully. Kel had managed with this situation, although it was so hard for him; he stood his ground, and he got help ... Well, and finally the bully was expelled from school, because he just wouldn't stop, although he had gotten his final warning by the school's principal.

This Australian short movie came to my attention already in 2008, because David had posted the news on his channel. Even then already, the topic was sensitive to me, and I think the movie is intense and beautifully made as well.
To re-discover this movie and find new and special meaning in it, many months later, is just like what happened to me with BEYOND THE WINDOW.
Kel's struggle against being bullied was a successful one, eventually. And this is a sign of hope, for so many out there!

Yes, the story is indeed very similar to what Kel had to go through. This is what makes this movie so important to me - but most special is the fact that Kel was, in the end, able to stand his ground and, with your help, make things change.

But you will have better chances than I seeing it, I think ... it's an Australian short movie and will first and foremost shown there, and maybe even in South East Asia.
Well, the film company that made RONAN'S ESCAPE also has a studio in Hollywood, though, and hopefully distributors in the USA, so I still hope for a world wide release; maybe some time later than in Australia ... fingers crossed!
