For a guy with long-ass videos, you are far from boring. I don't know anything about steel but I could watch this stuff all day! Seriously keep posting!
nice pipe. Your doing great, looks excellent. very talented. You should definatly put up some detailed videos on how to do what your doing with all aspects of custom mounting. I'd also like to email you about some detailed stuff. Im in wisconsin but alot of family in ohio, and in akron too actually. love that state
nice pipe. thats cool man. you should start making some detailed vids about how your doign what your doing. I'm really interested in custom mounting some katanas, but theres so many specifics that are hard to explain over videos. Your talented bro. maybe when i visit my massive family in ohio we can get together and cut some shit!
@ZentetsukenVII i am always up for new friends, but i live in maine now.you are welcome to take a jaunt up this way if you like.look up the channel called balzerz,it is the best for tut's.btw, this was one of the first blades i made almost 2 years ago,i have more current stuff on my page. P.M. your number and i'll call and talk you through some steps.
The habaki is made when the blade is polished and done because it has to be a pretty snug fit. I use to add a little borax to the clay cause that melts and gets sticky when heated in the fire hand prevents it from falling off.
@brutolf thank you for the advice. this is an older video and i keep it up so my growth can be seen. i learned to make the habaki before polish because you have to heat and hammer the copper or silver around the nakago, and you may have to start your polish all over again if you strike the blade. i looked to as many sources that i could find and this was the way.actually, your video for the tanto you made was the inspiration for me to build a forge and make blades.newer stuff on my channel.
@crazyroosterfist I've had so much else to do so I haven't been doing much of this lately but currently the carving and making of the fittings is what I'm practicing on for now. I guess you know about "swordforum. com" and you could check out "followingtheironbrush. org" for japanese style metalwork. "Following the iron brush" has a channel on youtube called "ironbrush" with some very interesting videos.
that what we all say... but i still like your work..lol..hey, i too want to make a tanto, saw your vids but like more info personally.. want to e-mail me? i'll give ya my telefone# then my address an we'll take it from there...
Hi i have a couple questions if you wouldn't mind answering them!
First i must say good job on your blades ^_^ very nice.
So i was wondering what type of clay do you use? I am about to differentially harden a blade, but it originally was a nail file but it is of course forged and tempered a bit i'm sure. Should it be annealed first before i attempt to differentially harden it? thanks alot lol!
@pockyXchick i use yellow riverbed clay with sand and metal filings added.if you want the full recipe and how to make it,PM me and i'll send it to you.and yes,the original temper should be taken out of your steel.if it is a file,it is probably W1 steel.if you google that steel, you can find all the temps for normalizing and water quenching. hope this helps, any more questions, just ask,i'll answer if i can.
