  • fuck the man.

    great cover still.

  • awesome video! do you do video lessons as well? I did a boy with the coin lesson but want to do more iron and wine lessons

  • How did you learn to sing so well? vocal lessons? just lots of practice? "by the rosebush laughing..." sounds amazing!

  • :')

  • sweet man.

  • soooooo good

  • You have a really good voice.

  • Wow, lovely! I almost like it better than the original. :)

  • Wow, lovely! I almost like it better than the original. :)

  • wow man. this is absolutely beautiful. well done.

  • What the heck happened at 6:11? It gives me the creeps... Can you do a non creepy version? Besides that it's perfect... Thanks for that piece of art...

  • @Nioteles

I agree! Did everyone watch the whole video?! 6:11 to 6:19 is off Loren! I hope your live version improves this section. Otherwise it was a great cover of Iron and Wine!

  • I love your version man!

  • Unbelievable man, fricken class right here.

  • great voice.. my favorite song :)

  • this is actually amazing x

  • Great job young man, keep it up!!!!

  • awesome version... ck mine out its fast and folky! and "jenemourraisps" some of us dont like to use the f word in such a pretty song! i left it out completely.

  • hey brother, just wanted to let you know that I thought this was the best cover of this song on youtube...well done man!!! you have an amazing gift and sound awesome!!!

  • wow dude, that was fantastic...

  • beautiful

  • good stuff, my friend. def one of the better versions i've heard.

  • I love you.

    Please marry me.

  • Impeccable, that's all I have to say

  • Great cover! Is there any source for the picking pattern? I can't figure it out myself and the tabs i found didn't match the original.

  • well, if you can play such great heights or naked as we came, you'll realize they've got pretty much the same patterns :)

  • *****

  • u have a beautiful voice. :D :D :D

  • one of my favorite songs :) so good. why do you suddenly go up so high at like 6:11??

  • great cover man! but yeah. sorry, i busted out laughing at 6:11.

  • I've been listening to this song ever since I saw/heard it while the credits were rolling on some movie. This is the best cover I've EVER heard. Get this guy signed up and QUICK!

    Bravo!

  • it was playing during the credits of In Good Company xD

  • finally someone who can cover this song! you did it justice! nice job.

  • This gave me chills man. Best cover yet

  • you just reminded me how ethereal this song is.

  • cool cover

  • Superb, I get as emotional listening to your version as I do when I listen to the origonal. You have done what so many have not been able to do..... change the words to "forget the man" and make still make it work.

  • beautiful song and done excellently. I like this even better than iron and wine's recorded version.

  • beautiful. i love this song.

one question: is there a specific reason why you changed it to "forget the man?" just wondering. but omg i loved this cover.

  • yeah, this has been discussed in the comments a few times but it never seemed to fit to me, plus i usually play for crowds of all ages, so swearing's not appropriate. that's all, thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • haha I also did that in my cover of the song...it just didn't feel right swearing. But great cover bro!

  • @deadplant155 it fits.

  • great cover, youve nailled this

  • you have an amazing voice.

  • this was beautiful.

i've already listened to it three times. :)

  • Awesome job on this, you are very talented and have an amazing voice. Keep up the great music

    Pat

    I adore you.

    <3

  • this was a very beautiful version.

  • beautiful beautiful song

    -loren

  • goosebumps.

    amazing.

  • thanks so much! i'm really glad you like it. check out my live version if you get a chance, it's in the video details and i think it's better.

i still get goosebumps whenever i play this song :)

    thanks again!

    -loren

  • Okay dude... no idea why you tried to swing out so high near the end... but amazing cover. This is one of my favorite songs ever. 5/5

  • i saw a version where sam beam does that at the end, but i've since realized it's a mistake. glad you like the video anyway!

    -loren

  • Good god, I wish I could find someone with a voice like yours here. :\

I hate it that there are no musicians here. Only wannabe hiphop stars.

  • thanks mate, glad you like it! wherever you're located i'm sure there's talented people, just hard to find ones! haha

    -loren

  • Oh never mind, i got it lol

  • oh good, glad it worked! thanks for downloading it, be sure to check out my website if you wanna download any other covers! eachpassingday(dot)com

    thanks again :)

    -loren

  • You bet! You guys are fantastic! I'm gunna wanna download some more stuff for sure, and i've been showing my friends, who are also probably gunna want some stuff. Too bad you don't do any shows near where i live.

  • Wow.. amazing! Have you recorded this? Is there anywhere i could download this cover?

  • do you mind telling me how to get a setup like this? It sounds great, what kind of mic is it or what kind do you recommend?

  • yeah no problem. the deck i'm going into is a Tascam 2488 (digital recording studio) and i love it. The guitar is a super old Martin (back when they used to be good) and the pickup in there is a L.R. Baggs Duet II. I highly recommend L.R. Baggs gear. The vocal mic is an AudioTechnica but I can't remember the exact model... somewhere in the range of 200 dollars (give or take) should get you a good condenser mic, i love how accurate the sound of this one is.

    thanks! hope that helps!

    -loren

  • awesome, this was pretty helpful. I'm considering getting a Tube-MP preamp. I know next to nothing about recording at this point, I'm not sure what to get, but I really liked how this sounded.

  • wow, you reply to every comment! great guy yes? nice voice:D

  • haha, i try. sometimes it takes me a while to get back, when there's a lot of 'em... thanks, glad you like the video!

    -loren

  • Really great job man. I woulda went with the original lyrics, but it's not a huge change so it doesn't really matter.

  • thanks, glad you like the cover

    -loren

  • absolutely amazing,

by far the best Iron and Wine cover.

  • thanks a lot mate, glad you like it!

check out my live version if you get a chance, i think it's better :)

    -loren

  • awesome sound and sing mate, really great cover of a great song! but remember: fuck the man!

  • Right on!

  • glad you like the cover, thanks for the comment,

    -loren

  • hahaha, you all know when i started laughing

  • haha that falsetto part. This cover is amazing.

  • your voice is perfect for this song, great cover!

  • thanks a lot, glad you like it :)

  • Great Job man.

  • thanks mate

  • Great!

  • I loved it you should be proffesional! ^_^

  • wow...i'm very impressed. i might go as far as to say i enjoy your version more than the original! great job!

  • how is this not the most viewed cover of this song?

i favorited this months ago.. youre amazing. ;D

  • thanks much! i try, glad to hear you think it's pretty good!

  • I think you forgot the "fuck the man". Rather important.

  • didn't forget, just didn't wanna do it.

  • I forget if I've already commented on this cause I've watched it a ton :) I really really like your voice in this song. The VERY beginning of the transition into falsetto is a little shaky, but once you pass that split second, the falsetto also sounds amazing. Great cover dude, I envy your voice and guitar playing.

  • yeah, it's a bit shaky there, i've since stopped doing the falsetto at all, it's just distracting :\

thanks for the comment, i'm really glad you like it!

    -loren

  • Excellent Still listening Here in Cape Town

  • well thank you :)

    -loren

  • Thank you SO MUCH for saying "forget the man"

it makes it sound so much more... better

  • thanks for your comments, i'm really you like it, and i always appreciate people taking the time to let me know. more better, haha, thanks.

    -loren

  • yes, it really is.

i might do a cover of this song and upload it.

  • best cover i've seen of this song

you have a beautifully clean, pure voice.

  • You are so amazing i can't believe it! I would buy your cd

  • thanks a lot, i'm glad you like the music. you can buy a cd from us at eachpassingday (dot) com/store if you want, or you can get it online at itunes or amazon or wherever floats your boat.

    thanks again!

    -loren

  • i like how you didnt say the "F" word in it. I don't think he really needs to say it in the real song. I hate it when songs swear. Though you can't not like the song just cause he swears. It's still one of my favorite songs and artists. He's a big inspiration to me. Your version is great too.

  • thanks very much. glad you agree with me about the swearing, just doesn't seem fitting. thanks for commenting, i appreciate it.

    -loren

  • why is it so beautiful

  • sam beam is my favorite and you did a fantastic job

  • he's a huge inspiration to me, one of my favs as well :)

glad you like my rendition of his song! check out my originals too if you're interested :)

    -loren

    thank you!

    -loren

p.s. check out the website, eachpassingday (dot) com

  • wow, 'welcome home' is great!

    love it♡

  • oh cool, so you did end up getting a copy? that's great! glad you like it :)

    -loren

  • You kind of remind me of Brian Litrell from the Backstreet Boys. He has a great voice too though, just corrupted by the main stream I suppose. Great recording man; serious talent here.

  • i hope you don't mind if i say "eww" to that comparison...

eeww...... haha. thanks though, i know he's a talented guy, i just can't get over the fact that he's a backstreet boy...

thanks a ton for the comment, glad you like it!

    -loren

  • This is the first time I have ever favourited an 'amateur' cover. Really, really fantastic! I had it blaring out through surround-sound speakers and was seriously stunned by your voice.

  • well thanks a lot, i'm proud to be your first, haha. glad you like it! check out our website for more, eachpassingday (dot) com

    -loren

  • Very good cover; absolutely beautiful song.

Nice tone of voice too; quite breathy and timid; just like Sam's.

    Very good :)

    x

  • thanks much, i try :) glad you like it!

    -loren

  • this changed my life

  • wow. well thanks. i hope in a good way :)

    -loren

  • this is amazing, you sound really good!

  • thanks for the comment :) glad you like it.

    -loren

  • well done brotha! the best cover I've seen yet! I love your originals too. Keep up the good work.

  • thanks mate, i'm really glad you like my music, and the covers! check out our website if you get a chance, we've got even more songs to listen to and download, and you can buy our debut album. eachpassingday (dot) com thanks again!

    -loren

  • No one can do it like Sam Beam, but you came pretty close :)

  • haha, probably the most honest comment i've ever gotten, and i wholeheartedly agree. thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • Great cover

    ...but its "Fuck the Man"

  • yup, changed it on purpose. thanks for the comment, glad you like it.

    -loren

  • this troubled me a bit.. one verb is passive, the other is motive.

kinda changes the point. though i did enjoy it overall.. i was 'elsewhere' for the following 2 or 3 verses thinking "forget? the man?"

took a minute to shake it off.

    great voice and guitar though.

keep it up! (but keep the lyric!)

  • thanks, glad you like it.

haha, it's pretty simple. i dont' wanna cuss. so i don't.

also, forget you/screw you/f*ck you, all kind of mean the same thing, so it works in my head :)

  • very nice

  • thanks a lot :) glad you like it

    -loren

  • wow, this is amazing. I got goosebumps from the very beginning. keep up the phenomenal work, man.. you're fantastic.

  • thanks so much, i'm really glad you like it.

    -loren

  • you're so talented!

  • well, sam beam wrote it, i just like playing it. thanks so much for saying so, and for taking the time to comment.

    -loren

  • I think I've said it before, but my god, you have an absolutely amazing voice. You sing this song so well, and with such reverence.

    Really, it's wonderful.

I'm most definitely off to get the MP3 version of this.

  • thanks much. did you find the link in the video details? feel free to check out our website too, lots of free covers to download and lots of originals too.

    thanks again,

    -loren

  • great cover , one of the best on here, i really want to learn how to play this song....by the way its fuck the man

  • thanks for the tip on the lyrics, i know that but it never seemed to fit the song to me, so i changed it for my own benefit.

the song is fairly simple, sam beam's picking pattern is probably what would take the longest to learn. i'll send you the chords.

    -loren

  • Hola! Nice! Nice! Nice! Love your setup; looks posh!

  • haha, it's just our garage, thanks though, glad you like it.

    -loren

  • Talanted...well done - you were able to keep me interested throughout the whole song. The higher pitched part in the middle was... a little pitchy though.

  • hey thanks a lot, glad you like it :)

yeah, i've since stopped singing that part in falsetto when i play it live. thanks for the comment, hope you like some of my originals too,

    -loren

  • i love iron and wine, but i have to say that i prefer this version to the original. good work! you have a great voice, and your pitch was really good which i think is uncommon.

    very nice :)

  • wow, that's a huge compliment, thanks a lot! i of course still think sam's voice is better than mine, but i appreciate it. thanks for takin' the time to comment! i have a lot of original songs up in my profile too in case you're interested :)

    -loren

  • Hey man great cover, what kind of recording equipment are you using?

  • hey thanks a lot, glad you like it :) it's a medium to high quality condenser mic (can't remember the brand name) and an old martin guitar with an l.r. baggs duet II for the pickup. i'm recording with a tascam 2488 digital studio.

    hope that helps, thanks again!

    -loren

  • ya it did, thanks man. Keep singin!

  • "And fuck the men"

  • And fuck the man, I know :) it feels out of place and i don't like singing it, so i take it out when i cover it.

    thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • getting this into itunes isn't working out to well i can get to the link, but can't seem to save/drag it into itunes...help?

  • well you can right click the url in the video details and hit "save link as..." or "download linked file..." (it depends which browser you're in). or you can go to the mp3 file and while it's playing in your browser go to File>Save Page As... that should allow you to save the mp3 to your desktop.

  • Yeah, i was having the same problem as moviedude but thanks the right click thing worked!

  • how could i bring the MP3 To my itunes?

  • hey thanks, it's available for free download on my website's downloads page (the url is in the video details). i can't post the url in a youtube comment, youtube doesn't allow it, if you need more info just let me know! thanks for the comment :)

    -loren

  • Hey..I just found this version... It's a master piece.. and you're right the live version is better, but i prefer this because the sound quality so good! And there's no 'extra music' from the background. hahaha great job! your voice is beautiful man..

  • haha, yeah, the song really is a masterpiece. i totally agree. the audio quality is way better on this one, i really like doing them in my "studio" but there's just that energy that's missing if it's not live, in front of an audience. they're both good for different reasons i think, i'm glad you agree! i think you're pretty close to qualifying as my number one fan if you keep it up with the comments :)

    -loren

  • Great that you like doing stuff live. I prefer the live shows too. Guess you're right, it's the energy from a live show that gives it the edge.. Hahaha. wow I'm honoured! I'd love to be each passing day's number one fan when you guys become big..!Oh i forgot to mention two things..One- I really love your guitar..Are any of those still available for sale? and two- i prefer your version to the original trapeze swinger..This isn't flattery,You really did a fantastic job!

  • thanks a lot! i'm really glad you like it :) have you seen the live version? i personally think i play it a little better live.

    thanks again!

    -loren

  • This is really a beautiful song. Congratulations.

  • thank you very much :)

    -loren

  • yo dude, what kind of mic and pre-amp did you use? your production is extremely clear :]

  • hey, thanks for the comment :)

well let's see, the guitar is a great old martin that belonged to my grandpa, it's got an l.r. baggs duet II in it (pickup + pre-amp) and i can't remember the name of the mic off the top of my head...but it's a great little condenser mic for about 200 dollars off of musician's friend. it's all recorded on a tascam 2488. thanks again!

    -loren

  • i am so in love with this song. Its amazingly wonderful!!

  • it really is, sam beam (of iron & wine) is an incredible songwriter, if you don't know him i highly recommend checking him out :) i'm really glad you like my cover! thanks for all the comments, you're great :)

    -loren

  • please consider playing muddy hymnal and in my lady's house. They match u well. Keep it up...

  • oh i love the song, i even plan to play it live, if i get good footage of it i'll for sure put it online :) thanks for the comment!

    -loren

  • loren ur vocal clarity is great. u match well with sam. I can appreciate that as I love singing his songs as well. U have an incredible ceiling of talent..good luck reaching your dreams...

  • and thanks even more for this comment, you are really nice and that is a great compliment! thanks so so much for the well wishes :)

    talk to you later!

    -loren

  • This is absolutely stunning. All of Sam Beam's songs break me, and it's not often you'll find someone who has a voice that can match his, since he is epic. This is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

  • thanks a lot for the comment :) i'm really glad you like my cover, i love sam beam's voice and i don't really think mine is anywhere near his, but thanks for saying that! i hope you like some of my originals too.

    thanks again!

    -loren

  • You should really consider playing "Upward over the mountain". I've seen several covers of yours, and boy, you are great ! Death cab for cutie, Damien Rice, Iron and Wine, Switchfoot... What more ? Josa Gonzalez ;).

  • i've done that one at a few shows and it doesn't go over too well, but it's definitely one of my favorites from when i very first started listening to iron & wine. thanks a lot for the comment! it's awesome to hear you like them. haha, yeah, jose gonzalez makes some awesome music, his cover of "heartbeats" blows me away, that's why i cover his cover, lol.

    thanks again!

    -loren

  • im a huge iron & wine fan and i loved it! thanks
