    LOL

  • @cmanclan101 Nah they do. This guy just doesn't have the required adapter. I use HDMI out all the time.

  • @coopermoen

you need an adapter (bought from apple, of course) to use it. when every other monitor, t.v., and video card on the market uses hdmi plugs.

  • 1. Pause the video

    2. Press 9

    3. Listen for TuTOREOS!9 ... LOL

Nice video man! Thanks, very useful!

  • Do you really need to use another keyboard and mouse? Can't you just use the macbook pro's keyboard and such?

  • @callmelitldebbie u need an external keyboard and mouse if you want to close your lid on your mac and have an external monitor/tv

  • From 4:02 on...

Why are you showing us your medicins?

    Lol, :P

  • I went searching for a tutorial because even though I've used MY Samsung tv (just by connecting the mini and HDMI and playing with the settings) as an external, I always seem to have trouble and fight to get my display on the tv. I don't have an external keyboard or mouse however. Do you know how I can ALWAYS get my tv display to come up when I switch over to the HDMI on my tv?? BTW, my screen is set to 1280 X 800, but I don't ever change it or any settings on my tv.

  • Thanks for the video man helps a lot when I do get a setup, just a question.. say ive got a 15 inch, and the resolution is sayyy 1440 by whatever? is that the resolution that the tv output will display?

  • Thinking docking station so I can get my 2 monitor system. Have the cradle thing for my MBP (twelvesouth) since I cannot justify a 2nd PC/Mac just for the same purpose (dock it, hook it up, BAM, desktop).

  • Thank you! Finally my old eyes will get a break! Great tutorial!!

  • Nigga the real reason your talking so low is cuz you dont want to wake you parents up ... my neighbors lol

  • This helped! Thanks so much!

  • with this setup I'm getting a really short lag with the mouse and movements. Anyone else with this issue?

  • this didnt work this add fuck is a ass cunt who says people with add cant do it fuck you i wasted 14 dollars on this shitty thing you cunt

  • hey man! thank you. igot one question! ive already done it but , the trouble is that i don't know how to switch it off and turn it on , being closed. do you know how?

  • Holy crap! Thank you dude, I just got an external display and was freaking out because the display resolution was totally off, and this fixes that as well!!

    Thanks again!!

  • if you have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse will they both still work when the laptop is closed?

  • Wow dude, makes sense. Now I can put an external keyboard on top of a closed laptop, and then use it.

  • Its true! almost every asian guy is named Micheal!

  • Would this work with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard or would the bluetooth cut off as soon as I close the Macbook's lid?

  • I meant to say ...I like how you speak to newbies such as myself! Well done!

  • I like the way you "newbie-friendly" shit, in fact, I'm gonna tag that! Keep em coming as I will be watching! Now I'm off to hook my MBP up to my samsung! Ty!

  • Perfect. Thoroughly explained, which is just what I need. I speak to you from my mac book Pro, hooked up to my 24inch dell monitor : ) Thanks x

  • If I were to shut the MacBook pro lid and use the mac as the computer and my hdtv as a monitor and connect my apple wireless keyboard and wireless mouse via bluetooth, will I be able to use the mouse and keyboard

connected to my Mac while the Mac is on sleep mode, and mirror the image with the lid shut?????

I would hook the MacBook pro up to an external thunderbolt port drive and daisy chain it to a Mini DP to Hdmi to a lg 26 in 720p 3 HDMI ports

  • thanks man, makes everything clear!

  • I need to pick up a Mini to DVI adapter. Thanks for posting.

  • whatsup guy wicked vid!! Want a cool Macbook pro?? I found out exaclty how!!! I will tell you the secret at my youtube channel

  • Apple mini display ---> Vga, or

Apple mini display ---> Dvi ---> HDMI ???

And wil this work fine with macbook white (newest)?

  • @DreceonMW2 It depends on your TV if it supports VGA, HDMI or both. Mine supports both but I choose the HDMI because, from what I've read, the HDMI is better quality. It should work with you Mac unless it doesn't have an external output...

  • LOVE YOU MAN THANKS!! my HDMI to my macbook pro just stopped working out of the blue then i did this and it works THANKS!

  • Does the macbook get really hot after a while?

  • @reficuz yes, but I keep the lid open slightly

  • @Z0MBERZ I agree!

  • @fatsotomuscles What's the difference between

Mini displayport -> Dvi -> Hdmi (cheaper) and

    Mini displayport -> Hmdi ?

  • @Z0MBERZ So i need to thumb down your comment?

  • Hey so I have a VGA adaptor and a cable to connect that to the computer or tv. Does that work as well?

  • @soccer6guy2004 yes.

  • I'm using Kanex Mini-Display Port to HDMI. I connected my 17" MBP to to an LG 23". Went to System Preferences, Clicked on displays, clicked on arrangement, then clicked on the Mirror Display box. When I close the lid on my 17" MBP, the Screen on my LG turns off, and I can't get it to turn back on unless I open the lid on my MBP. how do I fix this?

  • @i7msc15283 Try this: And make sure the mini display port/cable is not plugged in yet. Now, turn on your Mac. And make sure you have an external keyboard and mouse connected. Then, physically close the lid on the Mac and wait for it to go to sleep, it will only take a few sec. After that, plug in you Mini Display port to HDMI cable to the Mac. press any keys or move your mouse to wake the Mac. After that the TV should respond.

  • what you can also do is, that once you bring your macbook out of sleep (already on the TV screen) you can simply open your macbook and use the keyboard. your mac screen will not respond once you've got it on the other screen,

  • Hmm, I want to buy a monitor for my macbook pro, so gaming will be more comfortable, my question is, if i connect the monitor, will i abble to change the resolution or ill have to play with the maximum resolution that the macbook pro can produce?:)

  • for mine sound doesnt come out of my tv, just my macbook still, is there anything i can do to change this?

  • @aXGameplay Well, from what I've heard, depending on the year of which the model of the MB was made, the sound comes from the MB itself and not the TV. But I've heard the newer versions of the MB, the sound comes from the TV.

  • @fatsotomuscles Oh well that shouldn't matter anyway as i have the newest model of the MB

  • I noticed you did some editing to the video, you really could have edited this video down to 30 seconds.

  • for that keyboard/mouse device u plugged into the computer, do u need that if ur going to use apples wireless keyboard and mouse?

  • i need a dvi adaptor connected to the hdmi adaptor?

  • over 4 minutes...

  • I have an arrangement: First I hooked up a Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D because the - stands for DVI-D and then I hooked up a DVI-D to HDMI cable because DVI-I is older than DVI-D. (DVI-I stands for +)

  • thanks, yo. Newbie too.

  • I've hooked it all up, everything's fine, just got one problem. I can't view Safari on the tv. When i open it, it shows up on my macbook and not the tv. The bar at the top shows that its open, theres just no window. I've also got this problem with Logic Pro (music software). Anyone know why it could be doing this?

  • I. love. you.

  • while watching the video keep pressing the number "0"

    :)

  • what happens if i leave the macbook open? i want to make the monitor an extension of the macbook's screen.

  • i <3 u!

  • What Song At 3:20

  • Will this work if I'm using mini display port to HDMI?????

  • DUDE, THANK YOU

  • Does using an external monitor with a 13" Pro affect gameplay?

  • could you just buy a mini display port to hdmi cable? and also can you not just use the macbook pros keyboard and mouse pad?

  • i just recently bought a hdmi adapter for my minidisplay port. no dvi connection, and it came with an audio jack, which doesnt make sense, and go figure it doesnt work. Computer recognizes the other monitor but the tv stays black, even in mirrored mode. it was cheap and seemed too good to be true. my tv is a 42 polaroid lcd 1080. any help is appreciated.

  • would this work with an mac mini?

  • Apple Nubbie to Apple Nubbie

Thank you! 47 years old and still learning! Thank you!

  • my nutz itch

  • @ILOVECHICKEN69 Mines too.

  • I love you. Thanks heaps bro!

  • No sound though right?

  • @Gitsoe: Wrong. You can get souns, just run a standard audio cable from the headphone out to the audio in on your tv. Hope this helps!

  • dude, you rock. Praise youtube. I have a question though. I'm kind living in a cave using my old Macbook (the white ones) it has mini-DVI output. Does this mean I can hook it up on a SAMSUNG LCD TV?

  • @SoL2Squiz - Since there is an 'output' for it, I couldn't see how the notebook wouldn't support an external monitor.

  • is it possible to connect 2 extra monitors/tvs?

  • You remind me of the guy from MadTV!

  • STUFF ur neighbours... ur a legend mate

  • if you open up the macbook pro does the desktop go back to the macbook pro or is the macbook pro now the extended part? cause i want to have the macbook pro be the extended screen and have the main one on the monitor

  • @acogscopepwn: That, you can do. Just do it in system preferences under "display".

  • Thank you so much for the video. Very helpful.

  • Do you think it might be a problem that the mini display to DVI cable is not an authentic Apple accesory?I couldn't find the original one and got a fake. So, i connected the cables, put the power cable, the external mouse, checked Mirror images from system preferences and I miss the external keyboard. The monitor remains black : ( Plz, gimme a hand`!

  • Hello. I've got a McB Pro(13.3'',2.53 GHz) & I want to connect it with my LG Flatron L1950SQ Monitor. I got a mini-diplay port to DVI cable and a DVI to VGA converter and suits fine.I put the power cord &also connected an external mouse to the laptop. However, it does nothing..I wonder,is it that I miss the external keybord only?Because the monitor turns on, shows the sign "power saving mode" &the light becomes orange (stanby) without showing anything.

  • Jesus!!!! @ 1:50

  • THX for the tutorial.

  • Forget your neighbors talk louder.

  • I wonder why Apple didn't include an HDMI out on the mac since we are starting to see this even on some phones, and why does the video have to be converted to DVI out and then to HDMI, instead of going directly from the Mini Display Port to an HDMI adapter.

  • Do you need to have the power cord in at all times

  • @xthexmilkxmanx Not necessarily on the Mac, but definitely one on TV. However if you don't have a power cord on the Mac, then you have to be aware of the battery life on it.

  • @fatsotomuscles well i have my mbp on my 22'' monitor and if i unplug power cord it sleeps

  • Nice, thanks!..Connecting to iMac using both monitors would seem much the same. Want to use iMac to edit in FCP and check TV spots on 32' samsung 1080i...(as well as watch TV :-) ...?

    thanks again.

    tony

  • For such a sleek looking notebook they look like pigs when connected to an external display. Why they don't have mini HDMI out is mental.

  • This pisses me off how apple likes to make money by knowing no one wants to use their faggy mini display system. So they make everyone pay for that little gadget. Fuck you Apple. I already spent over $1300 on a laptop what more do you want from me?

  • Of course when plugging in a external keyboard apple does not recognize the application your sitting there have to jump through hoops to complete a very simple task, If go and purchase a very over priced apple key board I am sure there would be no issue.

  • @cman750rr What are you talking about dude. You can't even explain your issue with me. Everything works fine man. I prefer to use a Microsoft Keyboard because it cost me under 10 bucks. I'm jumping through hoops because, if you were listening, during that time, circa 2/2009, there weren't any videos about this topic, and if there was, it wasn't explained well. Jesus man, I'm trying to help others and people like you come along and create issues with others when there is no issue at all.

  • hey man good video, i am having a few problems with my setup though. i have a macbook pro (the newer version with mini display port) and so i have a mini display to hdmi adapter set up to almost the same exact tv that you have. what happens when i close my macbook pro is that the resolution on the tv is really shitty (and the tv is 1080p so it shouldnt be like that) and i don't know how to fix it. also the screen is too big for the tv and i cant see the tool bar at the top. thanks for the help.

  • @radio213 it seems like these two questions people have trouble with so I will be making a video about it...

  • @fatsotomuscles hey i actually figured out what the problem was. i thought it had to do with my computer settings, but i actually had to fool around with the settings on my tv, and now it works beautifully. I set my samsung hdtv to "movie mode" and fooled around with the brightness as well as set the picture to "fit to screen". it was pretty simple i just didnt think about it. thanks for the quick response anyhow.

  • does this only work for the Macbook Pro, what if i have a 2008 Macbook 13' (Aluminum) do u know if it will still work?

  • @ShaGirl212 If the laptop/notebook has an external outlet like a VGA, MiniPort, HDMI out, then it should work, 'cause that's what it's for. The external display outlet is for and external monitor/TV. If the model of your Mac has that outlet, then it should work.

  • i have a different cable i need help....

  • @aryanfernandez I can't help if you don't let me know what kind of cable or maybe the details of your problem...

  • im having trouble in setting it up, can u tell me the wires which u setup behind the tv???

  • @aryanfernandez For the back of the TV, you only need one cable. That cable is: HDMI to DVI cable. Just ask for that. The information is also below the video in the info box too.

  • Thanks man. I didn't think to use my set of external pc speakers. I had a set of Harmon Kardon's gathering dust in a closet.

  • Why the external KeyBoard ?

  • @cman750rr Once I physically shut the lid of the Mac, I would need to operate the Mac with an external keyboard and moust. How else would I operate the Mac if the Lid is close?

  • Thanks Dude!

    Every 3 years I need a refresher.

What we forget the most, is hooking up than shutting laptop and it's the opposite!

FYI: I hooked my 47" Vizio via RGB and it's fabulous. I put it to sleep and move myouse to wake; No Preference adj needed.

    Ciao

  • cool bro thanks a lot, yesterday i was trying this and the only thing i got was mac os x background on my tv lol, thanks again see ya

  • I got that first too, What you have to do is go to Apple, system preferences, Displays, Then you should get the thing on the tv. Swap blades till you find the one where you can arrange the displays. Then Click the box that says ; Mirror Displays then it should work. adjust other settings as needed.

  • do u use it lie that how is it ?

  • Look at my avatar.

  • they have a mini display to hdmi female adapter (Im sure you all know that), what im using, thanks for this video. 47lh90 is my tv, i love LED:)

  • even if you do it when your macbook pro is on and the tv is on the macbook recognises it resets the screen and the tv screen then its done.

  • When I do this with mine, the menu bar from the bar gets cut off and so do some portions from the side. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • adjust your screen mode on your TV

  • Thanks from a very "Newbie" to Mac - really well explained & demonstrated.

  • Thanks!

  • whats the song playing at the begining of the video?

  • thanks big help

  • Ok, I encounter a little problem here. I plug everything like on your video and the monitor turns on for a few seconds and then turns off immediately and it says "power saver on". and it goes like that on and off all the time. any help? the same happens with a 24 inch LG and 22inch gateway monitors.

  • @bontosz ...well, from what I understand, it seems like the monitor is not recognizing the Mac. Try different cables. Or use a different kind of cable all-together.

  • ok i've done everything u say and it works fine for like a minute then goes to a fuzzy screen.. i have a brand new toshiba 40rv525rz. any ideas?

  • @ineedaname87 might be the screen saver? try that.

  • do u have to have an external mouse and keyboard to set it up to a tv?

  • yes to both

  • Is there a way to use the laptop while its open? or Do you need the wireless keyboard and mouse?

  • @ricemicelice yes you can

  • why is ur macbook so shiny

  • @chrisanddrums4691 invisible shield

  • I am an Apple newbie too - and about to abandon Time Warner Cable forever. Your help was invaluable in putting my new setup together. Thanks so much and Happy New Year.

    CK

  • Thanks bro. Worked great on my 32" Vizio

  • how would u do it to a normal tv, no hdmi?

  • @cafoxp well, you can get a mini display port to vga adapter, and also a vga to rgb adapter

  • Great, I want o put mi External Display in Desktop Mode.

Do you know a Program that allow me to choose what Monitor to use?.

Cuz in my Hackintosh doesn't allow me to do this

  • Hey I just got the syncmaster p2470hd and hooked it up with my macbook pro ( same as yourse)...

But quality is not that good...' what should I do??

  • see if this helps: go to the apple icon on the top left corner...go to system preferences...under hardware click on display and see if you can change the resolution to the highest. hope this helps!

  • Thank you for the fast answer, but I happily found the reason:

It was the HDMI cable, don't know why but the VGA is just WAY better and now I can enjoy HD!!!

Only problem left is, that it's getting kinda hot while watching HD youtube video...

    How hot is yours getting?

  • @DeepPurpleIsTheBest ever since I had my fan changed, it doesn't get hot anymore...it also could be that the weather is colder.

  • Of course it's going to get hot. Youtube uses flash player which is a resource hog! You might try updating your version of flash player to make sure you have the most recent.

  • Thank you for the answer, I also recognised that it isn't even that hot, and cools down very fast!!

    Happy New Year

  • Thank you for making this video. It helped me a lot!!

  • thanks for the upload

  • Can you mirror the Macbook Pro onto the monitor at 1920x1200 resolution or can you only have it at the max resolution for the macbook pro?

  • From my experience-no. It's like if the fastest man on the planet carrying a fat guy on his back...even though he's fast...the weight of the fat guy slows him down.

  • Is it crucial to have the MBP plugged in? I seem to lose the connection once I am running off the internal battery.

  • everytime i try this, it just shows the main screen (the original wallpaper) :( someone help please

  • If you can elaborate what you problem is, may I can help you.

  • You need to goto into display under your system prefences if this is the case, and drag small white line (menu bar) from one screen (blue box) to the other screen so it knows that you want to use the s
