@ gnark1ll1us Entirely agree with you on Senna's ruthlessness which we saw at Suzuka 90 &91 when his animosity with Prost led him to crash into the Frenchman, on the first turn and start of the race when Prost had moved to Ferrari. Prost should have won it that year 1990 or 91. and Senna's anger also boiled over on the final GP of 92 (I think) -in Australia crashing into the back of Mansell (deliberately) they say so Nigel could not win & claim the record for most GP's won in a year.!
Senna was a champion of champions, I cant disagree with that.
He was still a cheat, as well as being utterly ruthless and unsporting. He was hated at the time by everyone except Brazilians, and he wouldnt have such a high profile now had he lived.
Still a great driver, but Ill taek sportsmanship Mansell style over multiple world titles won by foul play.
You're wrong, everybody who knows anything about F1 racing says Senna was the best of all time, get over it, it;s a fact. Maybe not the best sportsman, but in F1, winning is the name of the game, not being nice to your opponents. Thats' why Shui won 7 championships.
@b1akjak Is English not your first language or something? \read what I said again. I said he was 'champion of champions' and you agree, then I said he was unsportsmanlike, and you agree.
So what part am I wrong about? Im allowed to prefer Mansell over Senna arent I? Personally, as I stated, I prefer mansell and sportsmanship over a man that would actually crash your car in order to win.
I stand by the statement also that he wouldnt be worshiped now had he lived. He was HATED at the time. fact.
@gnark1ll1us I´m agree with you, for me Mansell is one of the biggest of all times too, but a man with a little bad luck.... If he could have good luck he could be at least 2 or 3 championships remember something 31 win races..... I think Mansell is the 4º of all time the 1º Schumacher, 2º Prost ( 51 win races), 3º Senna (41 win races) and 4º Mansell (31) ....
@gnark1ll1us You are totally wrong my friend...Senna was worshiped back then as well...how old are you?? If you are a teenage I feel pity for you but you ignore the facts ...if you are more than 30 then most likely you are suffering from amnesia...Mansell was really a great driver but all the f1 drivers admit that Senna had a unique god given talent....that's a FACTA
@gnark1ll1us when you say "poor sportsmanship" you probably mean Suzuka '90..please everybody knows what happened there..watch Senna the movie...Senna and Mansell had always had very fair and memorable rivalry..and again the majority of f1 drivers support that Senna was the best of all time..i believe they know a bit more, don't you think?? When I said that Senna was worshiped before his tragic death, I meant by many people around the world (in any case the majority of the f1 fans back then)....
I agree he was probably the greatest driver. I have said so repeatedly. Jesus...I cant believe i have repeated myself 3 or 4 times now.
I AGREE HE WAS PROBABLY THE BEST DRIVER SO FAR. I said it yet again.
I dont agree that the majority of fans liked him. Not outside of South America. And Suzuka wasnt even close to the only time he took someone out in order to win. If he was driving now he would banned for what he did, repeatedly, for a decade.
@gnark1ll1us Don't argue with him, the only people who realise who Senna was, were the the people who watched at the time, the people commenting on Senna nowadays are just people who watched Jeremy Clarkson's tribute to Senna on Top Gear. No doubt Senna was great, but why could he not of been great and fair?
@bluesgk Jesus how many people are going to message me saying 'senna was a great driver' He was probably the best of all time, I even said that in my original comment.
So youre telling me Senna was loved by the French after what he did to Prost, or by the British for what he did to Mansell?
Get a grip mate, the bloke was hated almost everywhere.
Dont know who is better senna or schumacher but we can say that senna did not raced just whit good race driver, he raced whit the giants Mansell, Prost, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet... with a inferior Tolleman and Lotus wining races looking for gaps with no limits and no fear of death.
Yes that is right, I think. Senna made everyone nervous and scared, except for Mansell. If Ayrton Senna had a tank turret and a fireball for a head, Mansell wouldn't be scared. (He would but you get it.)

senna the best forever from brazil , the best all times a far.. thanks for all senna we all miss you
Mansell is a british hero,he should have been 3 times world champion but unreliability put payed to that.Im my opinion he was a far better racer than Ayrton Senna.
@Donfrak No i am not crazy,Senna was a cheat just like shumi,i remember the Suzuka GP in 89.he was quoted as saying that if Prost gets off the line before me i will take him out at the first corner, and thats exactally what happend,he won the championship by doing that. Now if you are the so called GOD of racing you would not have to do that.Whill i will agree he was one of the best,he is not the best.
Senna didn't need underground maneouvers as done by Balestre to benefit Prost to show, without doubts, that he was the best F1 pilot ever. He had the 1989 championship stollen by the couple Prost/Balestre. And championship that you say was the 1990,not the 1989.
wooowh what a finish :) ..man im only 19 but wow..this is so much more exciting than modern f1. although i did like the concept of kerbs ..if only every team had it, would be quite exciting. :) ..i watched alot of F1 during schumi's days and that got a little tag boring becuase we all knew who the winner was going to be lol..
but yeah..this type of racing, i would love to see <3 ! no wonder dad and mum kept going on about sena and Mansell
Nowadays you never ever see the leader lose the lead only to regain it by sheer driving ability and determination.
All we get is pitlane overtakes and drivers who get overtaken never ever claw back the gap again like Senna did here, only to have mansell come straight back at him again
I see Senna in Mansell's slip stream and then overtaking on the inside. Evidently the Renault Turbo was in great shape or Mansell was already tasting his Moet Chandon flute in his mind :)
He seems being surprised by Senna
fightingback.Obv at 0,30 too late to shut the door, but I wonder why did he let the inside line free on the straight.
That was a fair sportmen's behaviour though: no defensive driving as like as Senna used to do.
The thing is, Mansell only ever caught up to Senna because Senna's tyres were shot and Mansell was only behind int he first time because he had to make a pit-stop for tyres. Amazing job by Senna to take back the position and then hold it.
After retiring of Mansell, Prost, Schumacher and death of Senna trhere is no fighters in F1. That's why this sport is now so boring... there is no fight for place, no overtaking, no risk, everybody wants to finish the race - no mater in what position. Because of that I wathing Moto GP.
2009 will probly be one of the better seasons... cut funding, slick tyres, less aero... there will be more passing and more opportunities for great drivers as the cars will be closer and slipsteaming can be done...
The cars won't be closer on performance at all.The myriad of technical changes mean gaps between the teams will be huge - see the difference between '97(3 cars qualifying on the same laptime) and '98 (Mclarens more than a second a lap faster than anyone) for the proof.
Hopefully there'll be the possibility of overtaking, but I doubt it.
I also find it ironic that, now that they've finally seen sense and gotten rid of the ridiculous grooved tyres, they've made the cars plain ugly.
Dear Schummy, with all due respect, but Senna is simply the BEST forever. This is a classic example - Mansell with a far superior car than Senna, and Senna is able to pull that pass. Amazing!!!
